An inventive gentleman
Looks like a huge complex undertaking. Well done and looking forward to seeing your layout develop
Many thanks!
Well done.. those bell cranks could also be made of wood/ply or even thick plastic card. When I was scratch building R/C model boats I used plastic tubing and wire which went through the plastic tubing or even plastic rod through the tubing, which was also used for model aeroplanes.... anything can be used if thought about (I have even seen dowel with cup hooks screwed into the ends). A well detailed and explained video.
Good suggestion and thanks for watching
Top notch benchwork! 👏👍
Thankyou for the encouragement
Love seeing this progress. The running shots were so peaceful, relaxing.
Thanks so much! Still trying to get the hang of running shots round the roof struts.
Looking great! I am new to your channel. Can't wait to see how this develops!
Cheers, and thanks for the support.
DCC Concepts (no affiliation) does under track magnets to assist with traction on inclines, you should be able to get away with just using them on the up lines. Then add a couple of small magnets to the bottom of the struggling locos.
Thanks for advice. When I was looking at replacing the motor I discovered one of the small cogs was missing so motor only inputting half the energy. Have got a replacement cog and motor so will see if things improve.
First time your channel and just been enjoying watching your handy work. I’m part way through building a layout in the loft, but work stopped on the layout to insulate the loft, wish I did it first! 50mm celitex topped with 25mm, comfortable up there all year long now. No warping wood. Keep up the good work 👍
Cheers. I am thinking insulation would be sensible.
Like the shelf display,,overall looks great,,thanks for sharing your work..😊
Cheers. They've spent too long in boxes. Its nice to see them again.
This is wonderful, seeing it grow and develop. I will probably never have the space for this kind of thing, but my in-progress Met-themed Inglenook keeps me sane and it's nice to see a similar dream realised and existing physically, not just in my minds eye. Long live Metroland!
Thanks for the support and encouragement. I'm really enjoying creating the Metroland vibe from bits of memory and alot of UA-cam driver cab cams. Can't tell you the number of virtual journeys into Harrow on the Hill station and still see something new everytime.
Very cool indeed Subbed
Just discovered your channel. Looking forward to seeing this progress. Nice to see a fellow tube and Chandwell fan. Looking to scratchbuild a lot of my layout too. All the best.
Thanks and good luck with your own layout
My respects!
Cheers, it keeps me sane
this is very interesting
Thanks for the support
What a great project, looking forward to seeing this progress 👍
You and me both!
Hi ya. Layout starting to look great. Station area brilliant. Love the 62 tube stock worked on them as a motorman for many years. See the 38 stock as well. Nice running session with the other locos . Do like the underground modeling. Great to see the older stock. Thank you for sharing. DELPH JUNCTION (Pete)
Many thanks
So much tidier than me in the cabin 😂 looks good. Will keep watching for updates 🎉
Cheers.
I don't envy you all that woodwork construction but hats off to you your doing a brilliant job. It now possible to see how its all going to come together in the loft and it is going to look very impressive!. Still very jealous of that garage of yours! Regards Steve
Thank you very much Steve. Looking forward to having trains running
Hi Mark - the garages are really good - a great build I think - so many uses for them. The loft build looks solid as well - keep up the god work. Regards Steve
Hi Steve thanks for the continued support Regards mark
Hi. Great video.
Thanks for the visit
beautiful scratch build! :)
Glad you like it!
I like the use of the mesh on the bridge it makes the model far more realistic - what a clever idea. That was a complicated build, what with two different staircases at different heights so well done on completing it. Lot of small bits added which helps to give the impression of steel built bridge. The painter just finished it off for me - excellent. Regards Steve
Morning Steve. Yes was really pleased with how the mesh turned out and the overall look. One day it might get the sprawling mass of drain pipes. Cheers mark
Wow Mark - that was some excellent work going on there - fantastic result on your scratch build station - that was very impressive. Regards Steve
Thanks Steve appreciate the encouragement
There is a lot of potential in your loft for your layout - I held back from going in the loft as its was packed with our “unwanted” or “stuff we may need at some point but not now” gear!! Plus I didn’t fancy lugging everything up and down the loft ladder at my age!. Good luck with the plans, you’re going about it methodically and in the right way. Looking forward to seeing how it starts off and progresses. Regards Steve
Cheers Steve. Think I'm lucky to have a new empty loft with recent move. Challenge to keep it clutter free...
Looking forward to seeing this develop and following your journey I’m not far from wendover, plus on my layout I’m also trying to add in things and places I’ve visited, a sub from me - Mark
Thanks Mark. I'm also enjoying following your progress.
Some very good ideas there - with the wool and the coal idea - I like it when fellow modellers try and re use materials. I try where I can to do the same but my modelling skills are not up to it sometimes! Thanks for sharing. Regards Steve
Thanks Steve. Yes very keen to reuse and scratch build where I can.
Lesney manufactured Matchbox cars.
Thanks Peter every days a school day.
Hi Mark. Enjoyable video with helpful tips. My railway is fictitious N scale. I agree with you that doing section's at a time is good. I fell into the over ambitious thing. Like you now doing a 4 foot area at a tine. Keep up the good work. I shall have to catch up on your other videos. Cheers Julian.
Thanks Julian. 4ft in N scale sounds like alot of fun!
Great video
Cheers for the support
Mark, the whole point was to have a go - I used Metcalfe and still put the platforms too close together! I am well impressed you did so much from scratch. Don't forget - its your layout so its your rules and you do what you think is best. Regards Steve
Cheers Steve
Mark - your initial scratch bashed buildings look really good - I rather like the way you did the girder bridge as well. I am still trying to get to grips with Inkscape so you have done well to produce a building already, well done. Regards Steve
Thank you very much!
Well Mark, welcome back to model railway building! I've just come across your channel and like you I spent a long long time before committing to spending any money by watching Marklin of Sweden, Michael at Chandwell, Charlie at Chadwick and many many others. I went through the same process as you explained and settled on an N scale layout due tot he size of my shed space, and DCC as it gave me the opportunity to eventually go programmable. At 64 I had never built a model railway, not even had one as a child but in retirement wanted a hobby I could potter with during the winter months and stay out the missus hair! It worked and I have been hooked ever since. I rely on the community very much for advice and help, as well as looking for tips and ideas. Just ask and they will contribute. I intend to feature your channel on mine on my next video in the hope that those who are kind enough to follow me will follow you and do the same. I shall watch your progress with interest. Regards Steve
Cheers Steve. Thankyou for the support and suggestions.
Welcome to UA-cam and all the very best with your project and layout. Looking excellent so far. Your very first video is a great summary for anyone embarking on building a new model railway. Remember, too, there’s a prototype for everything: my first trip to Amersham was just over 50 years ago with my Dad on the ‘Metro Tube Tour’, featuring a 1938 stock train with a 1927 Standard stock trailer car. If you haven’t already done so, check out ‘Tony North Eastern’ who is a scratchbuilding maestro but without using Inkscape.
Cheers and thanks for the encouragement. Agree with you Tony Northeastern is an inspiration for scratch building. The things he comes up with just amazes me.
Nice to see somebody ‘having a go’. I think the red pieces on the bridge were to deflect steam from the engines. They would have had metal screens fitted under the bridge. Good luck building
Cheers, thanks for the suggestion on the screens will see what I can find.
Looking good,great job👍
Cheers thanks for the support
