Ford F150 2018 Vista sunroof repair tips - stuck rails
When you go to replace the rails on your Vista sunroof on your 2015 to 2018 Ford F150, you can run into problems. Let me share my experience: my sunroof made a loud pop when I opened it the other day. I thought it sounded bad and I was right. I then thought I would open it up all the way. It went back just fine but then would not close. Here's the problem: to replace the rails, it has to be in the closed position.
Here's the process to get it forward to the closed position:
1) remove the forward glass. To do this, you will need someone to help. Remove the 3 screws holding the forward glass to the rails. It will slide forward but you will need help getting it over and around bits of plastic and metal. It's not easy but as you go along, it will be obvious. Keep at it. Take the glass out and put it somewhere safe.
2) remove the 6 screws holding the fixed rear glass in place. The glass will drop down an inch or so. You cannot remove it because the metal tabs are shifted over and the tolerance is too tight.
3) with the rear glass free, you can shift it forward to reveal the rails at the back and you can pick out all the broken bits making it so that you cannot slide it forward.
4) once it's clear, you should be able to move it forward using the power buttons. If it still will not move forward on its own, you can try doing it manually. This step is only necessary if need to move it manually.
5) (optional) pull down the headliner (see other videos on this) and unplug the motor located in middle of the back roof. Remove the 3 screws and drop the motor. Easy. The slider should move fairly freely and you can then locate whatever is blocking it from moving forward.
Reverse the process to replace the rear glass. Follow the steps in Pacfanweb's video to replace the sliders. Best of luck.

If I ever make one of these videos I'm going to attach the camera to my forehead. What is wrong with you contact makers? I couldn't see what you were doing at least a couple of times when you said just unlock it here. Get a cameraman man. It's frustrating enough that I don't know what I'm doing and then the how to video doesn't show the how to!
Why one side want let go or up
god this video is such ass, bro does not show shit. about as useful at holding the camera in view as a gay man holding the flashlight for their dad.
Thank you! I got it up!!!😊😊

This video is a waste of time because you don't show the details of the operation of opening and closing it all the way!
If you want to see how to close it, look at my other video on how to close it.

I already did another video for that. Go check it out.
Is it normal for the top to make a whirring sound when putting the top down with power top?
There are times when you hear a whirring sound. But, yes, usually.
@@KenReich Ah, thank you
Hey been trying to manually take the top down getting the front to unlock looks like the back it but the top isn't folding all the way so the back window will not fold up thinking now after watching maybe the front isn't unlocked all the way iam not turning the front untill it stops maybe that's my dam problem lol
The unlock devise in the back seat is really tight and takes a few trys to lock or unlock. Will WD40 help make it looser.
I can't fully close the top using this procedure. Is it possible a cable or some other mechanism broke up inside the roof? Please advise. Thanks.
Hmmm. There is no cable. It's all metal hinges... at least on the back. If you mean on the front, then yes, there could be a cable or track that is broken that does not allow it to lock and unlock with the hex wrench. I have not done it but I know there are vids out there showing you how to take apart the lock at the front. I never had this problem with mine. Good luck.
Yup, you convinced me, ill replace it.
Hey how to take the rear up? I can’t get it up, I mean the piece that convertible hides in. There is a cover and it is not moving anywhere
Do you have the video of how to close it?
The video is good, except for NOT showing how you were able to open the grey hatch cover - mine does not pop open when i push back the top cloth cover and rear window cover so it lowers into the convertible storage area. How is this hatch cover supposed to open?
I’m having the same problem did u find the result 😊
Have you check the fluid level for the system?
I think theres a "computer" module with all the information
Lol that sucks mines just stopping then I press it again and it goes I’m thinking something’s getting thrown off track trying to troubleshoot
I tried but the rear compartment does not open, I tried to turn the alien key a lot and now I think I broke something inside I am not able to close, can someone help me?
Ok , I'm done 660 usd 80 the part broke and 580 the mechanics cost
@@juanpablomoracruz8351 what part broke?
@@caliberautomotivegroup1770 i solved it , thanks anyway I had to buy a latches and pay for installation more than thousand total
Hey Ken I did it this way but my back cover won't lock when I turn the car on ?
Your orange light comes on, which means your expansion area in the boot is in the wrong position
Problem with my bmw330ci E46 soft top not opening automatically and manual may I be assisted
The didn't really justify cause u don't show it properly
Mine wont close all the way...I get everything till u get to the Allen key to tighten it...mine just keeps turning and doesnt get tight..the allen key eventually gets too tight to turn and the top is still loose

Same it fkin sucks and it was raining so bad here in Austin tx I had to put a tarp on it smh
Nice video! Thanks man
Hope it helped! There's not a lot out there to explain this process.
Awesome! Good luck in HLAG!
Congratulations on making it to the finals, Ann! Keep rocking.
Very cool! I'm tired just watching this! Super energetic!
Very nice drumming and you seem to enjoy playing. I also run a couple of cymbals off my tom holder with clamps etc. which I believe is a good way to get cymbals close and not have to haul so many heavy stands to gigs. You have great energy and I enjoyed the different camera angles also. Good luck in HLAG!
This is so good, she must be exhausted when she's finished
Great energy and playing, Ann. Really beautiful performance. Thanks for entering.
