    How do you know how long to spend on a particular concept. Example, how many classes / projects on space or hatching, etc. obviously this will vary by concept, but how do you gauge how how much time students will need to grasp a concept before you can move on. This is related to lesson planning.

    How do I help a student to take their time with their work? They get so excited they don't take their time, then get frustrated with how the project is coming out and don't want to finish or put more effort in.

    • @MsArtastic
      @MsArtastic 2 місяці тому

      Thank you for your question! It's wonderful to see students so excited about their art projects, and that enthusiasm is something to celebrate. To help a student take their time, you can model the behavior you want to see. Show them how you approach your own work with patience and care, and explain the benefits of slowing down. You might try breaking down the project into smaller steps, setting specific time goals for each part. Encourage them to take 'reflection breaks' to step back and evaluate their progress. Positive reinforcement is key-praise their efforts, especially when they demonstrate patience and attention to detail. Discuss their feelings of frustration and excitement, helping them understand that taking their time can lead to more satisfying results. By modeling these behaviors and celebrating their enthusiasm, you can help them find a balance between their excitement and the careful attention their art deserves. Happy creating!

    I am soon to be a 48 years old woman and I remember somehow finding Secret City on television as a preteen artist. I was in awe. Mark's style of art was my first influence for my own style of art. I always wanted to improve my unicorn bears way before all these squish mellows have put horns on all the animals. Years ago I rediscovered Mark online and asked my husband to buy me some DVDs of Imagination Station of some if his drawing books. I have yet to get my 9 year old daughter hooked on drawing like Mark and me. I have been teaching elementary art for 21 years. I include hatching and cross hatching with a space craft drawing and another assignment with busted plumbing and strange creatures on, in and around the pipes. I probably got the lesson ideas from Mark's influence hidden in my mind's memory. So thankful for artists like Mark who engage everyone and are good for kids.

    Self-portraits are one of my favourite back to school art activities for sure. The culture and identity mandala is a really cool idea as well. I am always looking for back to school art project ideas or even just subject matter to use an inspiration for projects so if you have more, even if they aren't fully developed lessons, I would love another video like this. If possible, just one sample artwork would enhance these videos a great deal in helping us understand the activities better. Thanks once more for all the videos. I greatly appreciate it.

    Hi, I just found your channel this morning, since I was trying to learn how to draw a bumblebee. I am legally blind, I run my own nonprofit, and I love art. I am continuously learning of new ways to make things, and be creative, but it might also be some thing for you to think about as well if you ever get the chance, or have students who are blind, or have low vision. I am going to try and find some resources that I can use to learn to make paper sculptures. From experience, since I have very limited vision, I find bright colors, dark lines, and materials that are easier to use, like markers over colored pencils, really helps. I will try and draw some thing on colored paper with a very dark sharpie, and color that with oil pastels. I think in my case, having a yellow background might be easier if I’m doing this with a sharpie. but I will try some different things. My hope is to also be able to set up some art classes for children and adults who are blind and visually impaired, since it’s relaxing, a great way to get creative and have fun. By the way, I uploaded the video earlier of my little bumblebee, which I learned from you. It’s not perfect, one of the eyes is very large, but it was fun to make. and I think that one might be an activity to use with colored paper and maybe some felt to make it textured. If any other art, teachers are here who have students with a visual disability, please know that some of us really enjoy our Tacoma. It can be more challenging but it’s not any less enjoyable.

      Thank you so much for all of this!! I think it is wonderful that you are pursuing your art and are also looking to inspire others! I do most lot use felt markers on my videos so I am glad that medium is friendly for you. Now do you draw on yellow paper primarily and not on white paper at all? For instance, if I were to make a video for visually impaired individuals, would you suggest I use yellow paper with markers? Is white hard to see? Thank you such a thorough reply and I am glad you like the bee drawing!!!!! 😊

    Absolutely love oil pastels. I love them as an artist and as an art teacher. They are definitely a must have for me. Yes to containers and organization trays. They are so good for storing art supplies for students to use. And yes, the ones with lids are the best. Construction paper is so good for so many things. They make a great coloured ground for oil pastels and soft pastels. I am also really excited to do paper sculptures with my students next term. And what about collage. It's so versatile. I tried cardstock, but I'm going to switch to mixed media paper once I finish off what I have. It just doesn't work nicely for acrylics, which is pretty standard for art classes in my country. I totally see the appeal of cardstock though.

      Hi, can you think of any videos or resources that have a lot of audio described or detailed Contant on how to make paper sculptures for students who are visually impaired or blind? I would love to know if you can think of any. I love art, and I am trying to set up some classes for students who are visually impaired. I am also almost totally blind, but love art, yes, even drawing and painting, but I just have to find ways on materials to do it. Paper sculptures, sound like they might be some thing, interesting to learn how to do.

      @MsArtastic 5 місяців тому

      YESSS! I LOVE oil pastels too as an artist and teacher, you get so many great qualities similar to oil paints and they can look dry or more smooth and wet looking. And I use soft pastels the same way on construction paper, it goes on SOOOO nice 🙂👍!!!! I haven't had much as a budget as an aet teacher so that is why the card stock over mixed media paper, but I agree that would be way better for acrylics and an overall finished product.

    I'm very excited about this membership, I love the look of all the projects, they are very fun and creative, but I am most excited to learn about the artists portions and to make art along with my kids. Art, music, and pe were cut stateside from California in my school district for all grades K thru 5 in the early 90's. I had zero art classes in elementary school and unfortunately my parents did not support the arts. We also had limited art classes in middle school. I had zero art classes in high school as we wrote down our electives each quarter, but due to a constant lack of funding and budget cuts, I also didn't get into the yearly available art classes because I didn't get selected for the limited spots and I took other electives instead. I've heard a lot of people say just draw, just color, and that's art. But, I wanted to do more. I went into this membership late last night after signing up and I was blown away by how organized your curriculum is. I realize that you spent a lot of time and energy into this, but I want you to know that I appreciate it and I am thankful that you are giving an affordable option to homeschoolers without compromising quality. I really want to give my own kids a general art foundation and I thought your layout looked extremely user friendly and easy to implement. I am excited for each month's new lessons and to use this with my kids.

    • @MsArtastic
      @MsArtastic 5 місяців тому

      YAY 😁 welcome to the membership!!! I recently added some enrollment bonus lessons and will be adding some more this month that you can access right away so you will have lots of lessons to choose from!! It is so sad that funding for all the arts and PE is all changing. It has where I live too and they've been removing art teachers and just expecting regular classroom teachers to teach which is so sad! Art is part of the human condition and it is an amazing way to just relax, understand your own thoughts and identity, and of course create something that has never existed before! I think it is great that you're going to learn alongside your family and I encourage you to create with them! Anyone can learn to draw or paint or create art at any age. It's just like any skill- the more you do it, the better you get! I will have some Elements of Art and Principles of design bundles included which are the foundations of making art so I think it will be a great way for everyone in your home to learn how to create art together 😁

    Thank-you for making this video. I would like to know which lessons in your teachers pay teachers store are video lessons. • @MsArtastic
      @MsArtastic 6 місяців тому

      Hey! You're so welcome! Unfortunately, it is SUPER hard to search for Video resources on TPT, there is no filter option and when I just tried searching video in my store, it didn't work. I have a few in my Elements of Art section: www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Ms-Artastic-Art-Projects-And-Lesson-Plans/Category/9998-Elements-of-Art-253807 but mostly I've since stopped adding videos to TPT since some school districts started blocking it so it would be hard for classroom teachers to show it. BUT! I just launched a new membership called Art Project Membership that is actually designed for Homeschooling & Teachers! Each month you get a new bundle of art lessons with 2 video art lessons, an intro video, task cards, and an art activity to extend learning or for fast finishers. Every month the bundle will be either for a theme, the elements of art, the principles of design, or artists/art history. It is also way cheaper than getting them individually in my TPT store. That way you can have me teach for you at home! One art lesson is for K-2, one is for grades 3-5, making it flexible for homeschooling! You can check out Art Project Membership here: www.artasticcollective.com/artproject

    How do you go about student-directed projects before giving a teacher-directed project and how long do they usually spend on said projects?

    • @MsArtastic
      @MsArtastic 6 місяців тому

      I try to make them something that is quick and independant but I like to frame it so it is not TOO open-ended where they can't get an idea at all. I think for K-5, it would be a quick activity that can be done or explored in 1 class. Like on 1 piece of paper, or with choice materials and paper. Let them know that timeline also. It could also be a sketchbook activity. I would give them an art prompt or a task card (like these ones for the Elements of Art: www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Elements-of-Art-Task-Cards-Print-Digital-Art-Lesson-Task-Cards-Activities-7822393) and then let them create it with their choice of art mediums. I would put a timer on the board and so they know how long they have, so they won't procrastinate. You can do this for each of the Elements of Art. Now for older kids, 6-12, I would make this longer. Do a group project first, then let them show that they know in a self-directed art project that explores the element of art, but let them have full control (because they should learn to make more sophisticated art that reflects their human condition at this point) and they could even use it for a portfolio piece.

    Even though the brushes say they are for acrylics they may work well for oils. Try one and see. As for the markers, Ohuhu alcohol markers are very popular while being affordable. They have a brush/chisel nib set and a bullet/chisel nib set.

      AHHH! I had no idea! I'm super new to oil paints so I really appreciate that! I'll try them then because they are the right shape for what I am looking for! Thanks! And I'll give those markers a try because I am not super happy with what I have considering the price they are ($6.99 CAD each!!!). I feel like they always are running out and it's depressing for my wallet

      @@MsArtastic I'm really glad that I was able to help. Enjoy oil painting. And I hope the markers are what you are looking for.
