My restored Hacker Gondolier playing a record by Doncaster band, Dragonfly. The sound is recorded through the phone mic, so doesn't do the player justice.

Showing how a dilapidated 1960s record player can be returned to service with a few cheap parts and a bit of grease.
Leak Stereo 30
Переглядів 7 тис.7 років тому
My vintage Leak Stereo 30 amplifier. It dates from 1968 and has had no modifications or 'upgrades'. It really sounds amazing but of course the audio in this video was recorded through the tiny microphone on my camera which doesn't do the amp justice. This amp uses germanium transistors, which, according to some aficionados, sound better than silicon devices. The Stereo 30 Plus, which superseded...
Unrestored 1978 Kawasaki KH250

1978 Kawasaki KH250, in my ownership when I made this video. It is unrestored and had been off the road since the early 80s. Due to lack of use, all of the rubber parts had to be replaced, including the crank seals, prior to re-commissioning. Riding this bike was a real blast and brought back many happy memories of my youth.
York Road, Doncaster. June 1992
Переглядів 73 тис.8 років тому
A drive along York Road from the Sun Inn to the Frenchgate (Arndale) Centre roundabout during the road dualling scheme in June 1992. The video has been transferred from Hi8 to VHS to DVD to PC so has lost a lot of detail. It still may be of interest to anyone who remembers the traffic jams before the road was made into a dual carriageway with fondness!!
What speakers are those!
The speakers are KEF Q35s
York Road is part of Area 8. The record is Cars by Gary Neuman.
For one , you can,t drive over the North bridge anymore, unless your in a bus or taxi. I used to live in Scawsby.
Can still tell in places how it used to be . Such as where the flats now are on the corner of Sprotbrough road can tell thats the old york road up to the petrol station
0:25 I spotted an old pre-Warboys road sign there. Probably from the 1950's.
Plenty of Cavvies knockin abaart 😊
the year i moved to donny !
Lived in scawsby went to school in clay lane and Edenthorpe. Made that journey twice a day from junior school St George’s clay lane ( now housed) to comprehensive Hunger Hill.
Think that may have been me at the bus stop @0:54
Wow its familiar yet completely different, better even
Thank you very much for uploading. I'd be 9 years old when this was filmed. I lived in Intake and used to visit my mate who lived on Herbert Street most weekends. Me and my dad would have taken part of this route home. The shop at 1:26 did video rentals for a spell and we must have rented King of the Kickboxers about 6 times. Never seen it since. Anywhere. Then as teens we just bought beer underage from Morrisons. Thanks again.
Thanks for your comments. I'm glad the video brought back some fond memories.
Superrrr🎵❤
Because its all gradual change bits every year, you don't notice it. Had to watch this twice. Scary, where's 30 years gone.
This video defiantly has a certain vibe to it
I spent my childhood in the 2010s around here near and at Bentley. I didn't recognise the road at all until I saw the layout where Morrisons would be. This just briefly shows how things change.
lovely...cheers.
so weird :)
I was minus 4 years old then, travel the route every single day, bizzare, like looking into alternate world lol
i was minus 3
All these comments are just old people. Bruh im 15 why did i get recommended this. I mean i live here but wtf
im 15 too and ive lived here for like 12 years i find the 80s and 90s fascinating for some reason so that must be why im here
I fucking hate this stretch of road, it's s testament to the stupidity and crookedness of Donny council. The sane council who have whores out the town centre to property developers and crooks.
Awesome, we moved away in about 85, so didn't suffer the upgrading of this road, but I definitely remember York Rd - regular route into Donny from Green Lane, either with my Mu or the 211 YT or 498 Wakefield Coaches.
Boothys scrap yard, what an eyesore. The houses that were demolished to make way for the flyover. I worked on widening of the North Road. Thanks for a wonderful trip back in time
I was 4 years old. I dont remember anything up to the north bridge.
There goes the Don Cinema!
I grew up on the town end estate and it was never a clean place. It's amazing how you forget about what it was like. I used to go scrap metaling and weigh in at boothies. Coming back from Don Valley on an old vanhool bus in the rush hour crawling along that route. I'm getting old damn.
Fame at Last lol.
Roy was talk of the town that day Mario!
so much easyer in them days untill they got some idiot in to design a total fk up road system
Wow, brings back lovely memories. I worked at the petrol station at the time and remember it all well.
Thanks, watching (read hearing) this just saved me stripping engine down as I was convinced that knocking was mechanical and couldn't possibly be that bad just from out of balance carbs....now where did I put that carbtune...
Hi where did you connect the earth on the turntable please?
To be honest, I can't remember. I would have found a screw attached to the metalwork, loosened it and fitted an automotive crimp connector underneath it before retightening it.
2:40 that bridge is soo rusty now and the streets covered in littered crap why have we come to this Doncaster we used to be clean
that bridge isnt there anymore its now a concrete underpass & not as cambered as it is on vid the one your refering to you dont see it on here as vid starts at barnsley junction not woodlands/highfields
good
Butifil 68 yet it’s solid state .
Well that took me back. Before Morrison’s was built. And you can see the old Don Cinema being demolished. I lived just around the corner at 3 Bentley Road when this was filmed.
Wow ... I know 1992 was a busy year for me but have I missed something? I just cannot remember all the roadworks and alterations, houses, businesses gone.
Them fatties at door . With Carling's . Pmsl . Brothers LOL
Amazing thank you
Valves need adjustments
Hi Eddie, the plugs are original and were attached to the amp when I bought it. I connected 4mm banana sockets to them so I could quickly connect my speaker to different amps.
I wish I had not sold my Stereo 30. Before selling, I tested it into a modest pair of Ditton 110's and the result was quite impressive. Good old Germanium!
The knobs pulled off quite easily, just be gentle! They are available on eBay, should you break one though.
I had one back in the day, but wouldn't want one now.
Hi. I bought this little beauty after watching you video. It’s working buy the inputs for speakers aren’t standard. I know now it needs leak connectors but you aren’t using these. Please how are your cables connected? And are you using tuner 1 or tape for the iPod? Thanks and happy Christmas Ed
Hi Ed. I am using the tuner input and have now paired the amp with a Brennan B2. I have used two vintage speaker plugs wired to banana sockets for the outputs.
There is a gain switch at the back for the pickup and tuner inputs, try switching yours to high. I am using a line level source connected to the tuner input which I've set to high.
Thanks much appreciated however I’m not sure what you mean about the speaker cable connectors. I’m just stuffing my cable wires in the holes with a matchstick as I cannot find 2.5mm banana plug for the positive apertures. 3mm but not 2.5mm.
By pausing the vid I can see you have two black looking plugs in the speaker terminals they look like the original plugs though? How did you come by them? They are exactly what I need!
@@EddyTeetree The connectors are vintage speaker plugs into which I wired two 4mm banana sockets by a short length of speaker cable. I sold the amp on eBay two weeks ago and listed the speaker connectors separately. They sold for over £30. I am now looking for a Musical Fidelity A1 to replace the Leak but am currently using my home made valve amp. I have uploaded a video of that on UA-cam.
Still a shit hole👌
Remember getting stung by a wasp dropping my ice cream at the bus stop outside the old bnq few years before this that's my earliest memory but this is how I remember it all
LOL ... I know I shouldn`t but great story!
This is brilliant!! It hurts my head to try and keep up with where it's at going along the road compared to how it is today! I travel this route everyday today and it's nothing like this! I would of been around 2 when this was done but what a fantastic idea! What made you film this at the time? Did you plan to share it many years down the line? It's almost like you're a time traveller that knew what was coming 🤣
