In this video I go over how to swap a ford 8.8 axle into a ae86, what axle to look for and what is needed to fit it without modification to the chassis. Techno toy tuning (t3) swap brackets, ford racing 4.55 r&p with summit pinion spacer kit, cut driver side axle housing 2.87" to fit a passenger side axle on the driver side to center up the pinion. (EDIT) when I mention the different OEM Toyota oil filers that you can use on this engine I mixed them up. F2 is the short filter that resembles the one currently on my engine in this video. AE86 update!!!

After a year long hiatus I'm back with a AE86 update. I now have my complete 3sge BEAMS, I installed a AW11 rack & pinion with all Xcessive Manufacturing bushings and conversion steering shaft. Also built a Ford 8.8 axle that I had shortened and then installed Techno Toy Tuning (T3) weld on conversion brackets and installed a 4.56 gear ratio. More updates to come!!!

How is the torque converter removed from a 3sge engine? There is a metal plate that obstructs access to converter bolts.
What size axle shaft did you use in this adaptation? I mean the length
How much did you narrow the rear end on each side? And for the axel off of an explore get both passenger sides? Or maybe you could just give me the measurements of how it is now in detail that would work also I’m trying to do the same thing and don’t even have a rear end yet because I want to make sure I can do it before I buy anything

But just wondering, would it be same steps when running brz/frs eps system as I can see its same price as the prius ones. I only worry about eps canbus system from the brz/frs but I alos see some eps controllers in ebay would that help to run brz eps without canbus

Another option is keep original mechanical setup but with an electric powersteering pump. If you do this you can enjoy the best of all worlds 👍

What driveshaft options are out there ?
Mine is a completely custom shaft made by a local shop. Uses W-series front output shaft yoke and typical Ford 8.8 rear from a ranger. Also used front and rear ranger U-joints.

Sorry about the late reply. I unfortunately am now using a standalone but I did wire in my own via the wiring diagram that’s available on the Beams Facebook page.
Whats the lenght of it compared to the oem axle and what wheel spec do u use?
It’s about a inch wider on each side and I’m using 20mm spacers and 16x8 +20
Im a noob to engine swaps. but can i run existing steering pumps into the original car steering. mine is (beams setup into 89 hilux)
Are you asking if you can run the factory pump from your chassis on the Beams or are you asking if you can run your factory chassis pump on the Beams?

How did you know where to weld the t3 brackets? Did you build a jig or some other method? Thanks!
I took both axles and measured angle on pinion to bracket angle and then set spacing from center of pumpkin. I also have heim joint arms which have a lot of room for movement of the bracket might end up “out of factory” alignment.

why you dont like it for drifting?
So AE86 is a very nimble and fast transitioning chassis and having this slows down the transitions and I don’t care for the way that feels.
@@theoutsiider9461 is it posibble to just turn it off when drifting or having the whole thing makes its slower?
That’s actually what I eventually did. There is still a small amount of resistance from the electric motor but it’s minimal. I actually tried both a aftermarket controller and wiring in a speed input and it made it better but still not great. I believe with a very large amount of castor it would get better as well. I only know this because I maxed my castor out trying to mitigate the self steer issue and it definitely got better. But in my personal preference for drifting it wasn’t enjoyable.

I have a 8.8 31 spline differential from a 98 explorer. I have an ae86 coupe what were you're measurements? Did you have to measure with the wheels offset & tires?
How wide is the original diff compared to the 8.8
