Thank you for sharing this... and thank you especially for your explanatory comments - these are helpful to someone with my limited knowledge. I have printed the circuit shown on your circuitsalad website and I look forward to building this receiver to see how it performs on the 30 metre ham band. Best wishes from New Zealand. ZL3ABX
Skema ada
Is it air band capable? Just wondering 😊 This will be my first project since grade school ✌🏼
Sounds like the 41 / 40 metre band.
Woah! Neatly built coil and amazing output!
The best happy meal toy
so rad! did the power cable get warm? what an amazing system
Is that a metal rod or plastic tube with wire that is holding the topload? Does the bolt in the middle of the secondary have to be nonconductive?
go look at the blog post on circuitsalad...in the video I show and discuss this in detail.
Cool, radio. Have you tried a variable permeability tuning instead of a varacter?
no but its a good approach
@@rayring1166 Are you good in QRZ? And if so, what is your call?
i think so it is W4KIA@@kq6up
How on earth can I find this on circuitsalad? What a mess that place is...
If you can't navigate a dumb blog...I doubt looking at the circuit will do you much good....you should stick to unhelpful criticism....you seem to have an affinity for that!
I like the design, very compact, did you try it with 12 VDC on the FETs?
It is a pitty that the bass was nothing but mute. Nice jig, though!
Groovy
ha ha hope you are well Millicent!
@@rayring1166 yessir! Hoping you are as well!
Cool. Are you in Asheville?
Yes we are reside in Asheville....not much of a beach town...lol
circuit full ???
Oh damn with those little fets that thing rips
It's a shared circuit 10 years ago, but I just built it. The circuit is work. I run it without any problems with 7.5 Volt dc.(3xJ310) +Varaktor + Audio ( LM386 ) Thank you Ray 🙏
i dig it :)
can i have the gerber file of this
If you go to my blog article on the device I think the files are all available
I might be slightly jealous, what an excellent find.
This is epic. You took something most people use for guitar fx pedals and made a damn SDR! So are you doing synchronous AM, or can you actually compute the vector magnitude in realtime? You know where you sum the square of the IQ Signals and then take square root? Figure it can be done with lookup tables.
I have a number of variations through the evolution of this approach. If you go to my blog you will see a more advanced design. I provide firmware and in the final version utilize a FV-1 freeware called spincad that gives you a graphical interface to build the DSP operations needed to support the different demodulators and filters.
Can this detect 511ish KeV photons? Basically goes right through everything solid state I have with no interaction. I have to use a scintillator and then a PIN diode. Edit: also, amazing vids, I subscribed!
Thanks ...yes the PIN diode has limitations and I am sure the I would see the same results you would.
@@rayring1166 well I guess it’s comforting it wasn’t because I was doing something wrong. Surplus Scintillation crystals aren’t expensive but it adds up quick if you want to make an imager. So cool to see the depth and variety of projects on your channel!
Hello Ray! I'm an electronics student from Croatia and I chose your 2013 guitar amp design for my final work and the idea got accepted by my professors. My mentor and I have been looking through your posts on circuitsalad regarding the design and the only thing we are missing is the pcb file for it because it has been removed from fileswap. I haven't found any other way to contact you and I hope that you see this and reach out to help me. P.S. your work is really amazing and I love it, even my mentor started browsing through it all!

This could have been an interesting video if you had explained what you were doing. I hate videos like this. Come on man... This video is worthless without context.
You built a tesla coil with foot long streamers without the pain of winding a thousand turns of wire. Meanwhile, as of typing this, I JUST got done winding a coil for 6 hours. You're cheating.
Creating a beautiful wound coil is half the fun! For me this is just an experiment to show that a small relatively low quality secondary can be driven efficiently and generate good sparks. For the most cool looking, efficient and maximal streamer length to power in ratio coil; a nice wound secondary is best.
Hi, I really liked your circuit and I replicated the phase shift stage of the feedback. I used a potentiometer with a metal casing and when I touch the casing the arc length increases significantly. Have you had such an experience. I realized that I act as an antenna and if I attach an antenna to the potentiometer casing the arc length also increases.
Tuch it
Dang that Coil is the coolest !!! Such a clean cool setup
wow 😍
I actually enjoy tuning for Class E and trying to squeeze that last bit of efficiency out of the circuit. I smile whenever I break 90%. It's my favorite part of building a radio. But I do like your design. Well done.
Epic!
thanks!
Groovy Man!

Great work documenting and sharing the design work on your site. I really appreciate this.
It seems like this radio is better than a DX-390 Radio Shack radio.
That's really inspirational! I want to wind a new secondary for my sstc. One with a lower F0.
Good fun Ray!!! Still using that mini pedal amp?
I built a DSP two 10" 100 watt combo amp for the surf group...you can see it in the background...I used baby blue tolex. Its is light weight, loud and it breaks up nicely when you push it.
How do you program the PIC? Can you use Arduino IDE? I have a bit of experience with the ESP8266 on Arduino and have made webservers on them to respond to inputs from a phone or laptop. That could be pretty fun! Also, do you have the source code? Or do you sell these pre-programmed?
the pic is not important any source of square wave drive will work
Is that 75% battery power to RF power?? That is darn impressive!! I have about twenty 18650 cells from dead laptop packs that seem to be working just fine so This would be perfect! I like how you think about circuit design to make use of what you have laying around! 73 de KI5SOH
70-75% based on input power to the drains of mosfets not including any other portion of the driver circuit

Great little coil good work mate Steve
this is nice (and not pointless) coil. Im curious how you scope out the adjusting of phase shift? do you need differential probe for this? maybe a video perhaps? 👍
using a halfwave rectifier in the supply you can ground reference the low side switch and sample the wave forms there.
I never see and never used a conic secoondary .... this make me very vurious . The result was wonderful .Very good work Ray .
This is remarkable!
Thanks! I'm kind of lazy and don't make a coil that really throws humongous sparks but at least it's stylish 😁
What happens if you double your power load to it 🤔
It will have arching breakdown and explode
