Waimakariri Gorge Family Rafting
The Waimakariri Gorge is only an hour away from Christchurch yet feels a world away in the wilderness. Famous for the Coast to Coast race, it is a great place to take kids for their first overnight rafting trip as long as there is no forecast wind!

Toaroha - New Zealand White Water Kayaking
Переглядів 1,1 тис.3 місяці тому
The Lower Toaroha is a classic 3-4 outing on the West Coast depending on river levels. This flow was medium low. A 40min to 1hr walk in depending on your fitness, gives you a good warm up for a short but great river. River guide: www.riverguide.co.nz/guides/kayaking/Lower Toaroha/5d16ba7b7b83b60017c668ba
Landsborough - New Zealand White Water Kayaking
Переглядів 1,4 тис.Рік тому
One of the most pristine valleys on the South Island, whilst not hard white water, the Landsborough is a must on any kayaker's list in NZ for scenery alone. This was quite low flow and it definitely gets harder at higher flows. River Description on Riverguide.co.nz: www.riverguide.co.nz/all/kayaking/Kea Flat to Clarke Bluff/5d16ba7b7b83b60017c668a0

Mt Earnslaw West Peak
Переглядів 1,1 тис.2 роки тому
Located at the head of Glenorchy, Mt Earnslaw is hard to miss. We tried to climb the often neglected West Peak rather than its slightly highest neighbour, the East Peak. We got stumped 100m from the top with not enough gear to make the last steep section and time running out.
Whataroa - New Zealand White Water Kayaking
Переглядів 11 тис.3 роки тому
The sister river to the Perth, the Whataroa from Barrowman's Flat is an achievable heli trip, with some amazing gorge scenery. This is a low flow run and there is a lot harder section above this.

sweet! Love all your videos. Is there any gauge you can use to get an idea of what the level on the Toaroha is? also, do you know what the Lower Hokitika is paddling like these days?

Great Video!, just wondering what you rapped off of High peak using? (Piton, Tat around a rock etc, nut?) Also did you need to rope up crossing the crow?. More beta for the descent would be appreciated. Thanks.

    • @keaoraproductions6713
      @keaoraproductions6713 3 роки тому

Hey there was tat up there, but I always take fresh 6mm chord for that purpose. We didn't go onto the Crow as we didn't take ice gear so we climbed up middle peak then down to low peak which avoids it. Middle peak is very chossy though. If you did cross the crow, I don't see the need to rope up as your just traversing a small uncrevassed bit, however always prudent if you already have the rope on you.

Hey man, thanks very much. Yeah its always in the back of your mind but its pretty well covered up in the middle of winter so not of huge concern. They tend to form in obvious places on a glacier, roll overs, outside of bends etc, and although not fool proof can help reduce the risk a lot.

Yes we did cut up via the snow, but we hit the notch before the kangaroo patch as the patch itself had some huge scrunds that looked difficult to get over. This was the 9th ans 10th of Jan.

We were up there 27/28th January 2021 and it had fresh snow a week before and only a couple of patches of surface melt. I'm surprised at how little snow compared to what we had half a month later. The Ramp was covered and you could descend Bevan Col basically all via snow slope to the east
