Jeep JLUR and Ford F150 with Trailers. Can they make it? Should they?
Переглядів 1,1 тис.2 роки тому
Should I go exploring and overlanding with a full size truck? Should I stick to a Jeep? What fits in sticky situations and what doesn't? What about trailers? Should I pull a trailer off-road.? Well, your mileage may vary but this video shows an example of 2 different set ups tackling the same terrain. A late model Jeep with a 2500lb home built trailer and a new F150 with a small squaredrop were...
Overlanding and Mixed Touring Camper Trailer Build ... the Intro!
Переглядів 6013 роки тому
Building a camper trailer for Overlanding and Touring the Americas. This is a prototype for future builds to test some of my construction techniques. The idea behind this specific trailer is to be BDR capable, towable by a Jeep, have an inside bathroom and no propane. Traveling during the Pandemic with my Opus OP2 taught me a ton about what works and what doesn't for long range mixed touring. A...

Mineral Creek Colorado: The Alpine Loop's Best Kept Secret
Переглядів 4 тис.4 роки тому
Out of the 5 trail days that we spent in South Western Colorado in the summer of 2020, we ran Mineral Creek twice. Why? Well, because it is a connector to other trails and other parts of the Alpine Loop. . .but. . .It really is a GREAT trail that not enough people use. Most people that come to the San Juan Mountains will start their journeys in Silverton. That's GREAT and it is a hub, no doubt,...
S1E2: Black Bear Pass of Washington? Copper City might just be IT!?
Переглядів 1,7 тис.4 роки тому
In October of 2020 (the year that shall not be mentioned), a team of 2 Jeeps, 4 people and one mutt embarked on a journey on the Copper City trail of Washington State. Never heard of it? I hadn't either!! It is crazy to think that after living in Washington for most of my life and wheelin everywhere that I hadn't heard of a trail that was less than 3 hours from my house? Once we started up in t...
S1E1: How to nearly backflip a JLUR and putting an OPUS to the test!
Переглядів 2 тис.4 роки тому
I set out to answer a quetion: Why is overlanding such a failed concept in the US? As it turns out, the limitations that much of the gear puts on our vehicles kills the concept for 99% of four wheel drive enthusiasts. Follow along with my JLUR and Opus OP2 Camper Trailer as I show the failures of overlanding and have a ton of fun in the Cascade Mountains of Central Washington with some good fri...
Is Black Bear Pass REALLY that bad? Jeep Wranglers go to find out!!
Переглядів 483 тис.4 роки тому
In July of 2020, some friends gathered for a pilgrimage to the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado. We spent a week on the high mountain passes and trails including Imogene, Mineral Springs, Engineer, California Gulch, Corkscrew Gulch and, in this installment, the infamous Black Bear Pass. Black Bear, with its numerous switchbacks and steep thousand foot drop offs has become known as one of...
Can a Jeep pulling a camper trailer make it up the Million Dollar Highway?
Переглядів 6 тис.4 роки тому
In May of 2020, I attempted to ascend the infamous "Million Dollar Highway" aka Red Mountain Pass in Southwestern Colorado. My 2018 Jeep JL Unlimited Rubicon would be put to the test by pulling a fully loaded Opus Camper Trailer up and then down this precarious road. The summit of Red Mountain Pass is over 11,000 feet and the grades are as steep as 8%. This will really put the fully laden jeep ...
Enchanted Rockies Trail S2: Can an Opus Expedition Trailer and JLUR Make It?
Переглядів 1,8 тис.4 роки тому
What will likely be my last off road day on my long trip from Jacksonville, Florida, to Richland, Washington, I tackled the second section of the Enchanted Rockies Trail in Central New Mexico. This section takes an overland route right through Billy the Kid's home woods and traverses some really unique territory. The trail has its challenges with some tight switchbacks, washouts, and rocky sect...
Enchanted Rockies Trail Section 1: Opus Camper and Jeep JL Rubicon
Переглядів 3,1 тис.4 роки тому
As part of a massive trip from Washington State to Florida and Back, I completed Section 1 of Lifestyle Overland's Enchanted Rockies Trail. I started in the Hackberry OHV area after making a long drive from Austin,Texas. After refueling in Carlsbad, I pointed the Jeep towards Queen, NM, and followed the GPS track that I had downloaded from Gaia. The trip was scenic and fun, but not challenging ...

Couldn’t let you sit here with 666 comments, bad omen. So this is comment #667 😎 Anyhow, I ran it a couple months ago. It is stunning but not for the newbie or faint of heart. As someone else said, the technicality isn’t the issue, it’s the consequences of making a mistake.
Black Bear Pass is not difficult at all. We ran it in 2020 with a 4-cylinder TJ on 31s. Zero issues. It was a beautiful drive and we took Imogene Pass back to Ouray. Too easy.
Arrogant. “If you need a spotter” what a jerk.
Yeah, that guy...
I visited this as a kid in the 1950 s The road is better now than in those days Best camping was at Bumping Lake nearby.
We just did Black Bear a few days ago. It's very hyped up as far as the difficulty goes, but you couldn't ask for a more beautiful drive. Just take your time and pick your line, piece of cake. I did it in a stock 2012 Wrangler, six speed manual.
Can that tablenbe set up as another bed???
A spotter is cheap life insurance.
Life insurance that is only as good as the spotter. CW McCall would be appalled.
@@4x4overlandadventures55 That is a little obvious. I mean I would not have Helen Keller.....
try it on a bike...crazy...
Wow, the exact same thing happened to me several years ago. Except I slid further off the slope before a small tree stopped me. Fortunately for you got past it. Great video, thanks!
How's the cooler doing after 4 years?
Still going strong.
Oh hell no.
that was awesome! great video man. Sexy Jeeps!
Wish I could conquer the fear of the heights thing I have now, that I never had before. I was involved in a construction incident in the early 90s. Since that time, I have experienced multipple HPP events and can't seem to shake it. Guess I'll just live out these kinds of things by the videos. Thanks for that.
...did the pass last year and got caught in a rainstorm. It was definitely a handful!😮
This brought back memories! I love this and grew up in Silverton. My Dad took us up here in the summer all the time! Thanks for the memories :)
Can it be done in a 2000 SR5 Toyota Tacoma
Yes.
Sold my 80 series and have been slowly seeing up my Silverado for a family camping and overlanding / weekend warrior and daily driver so this has been some great inspiration
"promo sm" 👉
Oh no dude, no fricking vertical videos please.
My bad. I am going to redo it.
I've seen way harder trails than black bear pass
It's the 'scariest' but in a short wheelbase under 150'' wheelbase you're not even going to have an issue. People have done it in HD series trucks...I've been on much more sketchy shelf roads around CO haha. You BETTER respect it but yeah, it's not a big deal, then you get a beer down in telluride! And telluride is like the los angles of CO.. 180 degrees from Ouray!
Our first time up black bear pass, we went up it from telluride by a tour guide, & my dad drove it in his old wrangler ‘95 YJ SAHARA EDITION! Pretty scary! If you don’t know they you’re doing & go too fast, then yes! BBP can be dangerous!
It is very intense. It is beautiful. Been on it 3 times. Loved each time.
Did both sides maybe only a mile in on each side on a dirt bike both times road unpassable due to snow, would love to go up
Roughly how long does it take to drive up Mineral Creek to Animas Forks?
It’s a mildly difficult trail is all. What can get you in trouble on Black Bear is poorly kept vehicles, your rig should be mechanically sound, faulty brakes, brake lines, shoes, emergency/parking brake must be in order. An automatic transmission is best here, you slip your foot off clutch, you could be history. The other ingredient for Disaster is inexperienced off road drivers. Last but not least, bad weather can give you problems.
Thinking about getting one. Do you still have it and do you like it or have any problems with it?
Could a new Toyota Rav4 Hybrid XSE handle this drive? (Have more aggressive tires but otherwise, stock).
Yes
@@4x4overlandadventures55 Thank you for reply. Good, I'm going to head that way next month then. Thanks for posting your video.
We did that road in a 2017 Kia forte No big deal
The pitholes on normal highwsys and streets in colorado are more dangerous that this black bear pass Lol
BE careful man one wrong move and you're screwed as i just seen that mishap from a couple years back. Hopefully the girl is alright now.
Were you able to open the Jeep tailgate with the trailer attached?
What is the towing capacity of your Jeep? We just got a new Bronco with the V6 but capacity is 3500, so we're looking at the Lite, but would prefer the features of the OP2 but fully loaded would exceed the tow rating.
I remember doing this in a horse-drawn carriage in 1887. :-)
if your doing a 3 point turn with a 2 door jeep you should not be on that trail.
2 issues. 1. His front locker isn't selectable and makes it push. 2. Your mom was backseat driving.
It’s just a pass… it is neither good nor bad.. now braindead hillbilly’s come in bad and badder models.
I have a high-grade fever, am hallucinating, and came to this video
Your mom says to drink more fluids and get some rest.
How many psi you guys running? Looks like everyone is over inflated for the conditions.
Probably 10 to 12.
Did mineral creek to engineers pass back down to Silverton in the 90s in a rental wrangler no GPS no cell phones with a cooler full of water and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
PBJ on the trail is the best.
Mineral Creek is "technical" enough for me!
This is a great video to watch did the ram truck have any kind of lift kit
Leveling kit
@@4x4overlandadventures55 what is that
.O1 PERCENT LIKES GIVE IT UP
Exactly what your mom said. Sad day.
I used to live in Durango too!
I'm going to be doing it in Oct for the first time

Hi Jim. Can you do a update walk around. Would be great to see it more close to finished. Cheers
Yes!!! I have to stop traveling long enough to film it.
so many rentals and side by sides
You didn't mention how many changes of underwear to bring.🙈
