How the U V Z axes are activated in the 390 model
When cutting on a wire EDM, the Z-axis is almost always set at a stationary position dependent on the height of the workpiece and set for optimal flushing position. The U & V axis are activated through a command in the G code program and are used for offsetting the upper guide from the lower guide to cut a taper angle on the part. This EDM is unique because it has full length stroke of the U & V to match the X & Y axis. Therefore, it can do much higher taper angles, especially in a taller workpiece.
