    Hi Power BI Bro, Thank you very much for this great video. I actually got really far with my solution using your video. Thank you! I do have an issue with the blanks when I am using xViz Performance flow visual in Power BI. I am using it to create an organization hierarchy. It is such that if the lower level of the hierarchy has no value than the upper level will not get shown either. I.e. the highest level CLT has OPR and CIT as immediate child nodes. CIT has no further children. So when the hierarchy is extended till level 2 you do see CIT and OPR. But if the hierarchy is extended to 3, you only see OPR. I would like to keep seeing OPR. I do have an excel file with the structure and all the calculated columns done. If you kindly reply then I can showcase it. Thank you for your knowledge sharing! Best Regards Exactitude (Rehman)

      Thank you for both the question and compliment, I'm happy to hear you found the video to be great! I appreciate the summarized description of the problem, unfortunately offhand I'm not deeply familiar with the xViz Performance Flow component. I'm unfortunately unsure how to solve your xViz issue without a deep dive.

    Really nice video! I tried to do something similar with my own semantic model, however for some reason I cannot get the images to appear in the new slicer button. When I put the column with the reference url into a table, the link works fine. I have tried to set the data category in the column with the url's to Uncategorized, Web url and image url, but it still does not appear in the new slicer button. My images are placed in a one drive folder. Do you know what can be wrong?

      Hi thank you for your question! Connecting images from OneDrive can be slightly nuanced, I've added it to my list to create a video on how to do it. Here's some high-level documentation from Microsoft to hopefully help. There are also some MSFT community blog posts on the subject. @@PowerBIBro thank you... I have done some more investigations, and I think it is because my organisation does not allow us to make the shared link public/anonymous accessible and therefor the picture will not show up in Power BI(?)

    Thank you for the tutorial however I have a question, Each time i hit the '+' button all my information just slides into the deepest level of my hierarchy and i have no information on my row, i tried multiple things but nothing worked so far. (some information just in case : I'm working on a database already flattened, hierarchy has been built thanks to column names, I foud a way to re-create the 2 mesures of depth like in the video and hide the blanks.)

    • @PowerBIBro
      @PowerBIBro 3 дні тому

      Thanks for your question and I appreciate you sharing! These types of issues are typically associated with the steps performed at the point in which the hierarchy itself is created (right clicking and adding fields). It may be beneficial to go back and watch the below step, ensuring you add/build the layers in your hierarchy field utilizing the correct order as the order in which fields are added define the order in which they drill to. 18:46 - Create a hierarchy and create hierarchy measures

    • @PowerBIBro
      @PowerBIBro 11 днів тому

      Thanks for the question! I've reviewed the below docs from MSFT and it doesn't seem list any data size limitation, but I think visuals may have 1k limit on number of items they can display in general. Can you elaborate a bit more on your issue? Is it that it doesn't render at all, or some fields are limited etc..more details the better. learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/visuals/power-bi-visualization-influencers?tabs=powerbi-desktop

Which OPENS the recent files in POWER BI not OPEN REPORT. I guess that I can ask COPILOT. Unless you have any advice? I have a screenshot of it showing. But it is a few years ago. Say I've got salespeople who have multiple clients. Can I have it filter the page by each client they have and send it to that salesperson? This would be in lieu of a paginated report build. I've got the data needed but just not sure if it's possible. It would turn a 1 page dashboard into an 8 page PDF if they have 8 clients, if this can work the way I'm imagining.

    Thanks for the walkthrough! Very helpful! I'm slowly learning Power BI and have a quick question: How do I hide calculations or is there a simpler way to get the following to work? I have Vendor in my Rows in the matrix and have Year in my columns. I was able to add a visual calc to do the difference between 2024 and 2023, but it does the calculation twice (once for 2023 which always results in 0 and once for 2024 which gives me what I want). How do I hide that 2023 calc? Unfortunately I can't switch the Rows/Columns around because I could have 50+ vendors at one time, unfortunately. Here's my formula: Diff = [Cases] - FIRST([Cases], COLUMNS) This is what I end up getting and need to hide the first "Diff" column: 2023 2024 Cases Diff Cases Diff Vendor 1 10 0 15 5 Vendor 2 40 0 32 -8 Vendor 3 30 0 35 5 Thanks in advance for the help!

      Thanks for your support and great question! That’s a tough one, offhand I don’t have a guaranteed solution. Something I’ve done in the past is create conditional formatting which changes the font color to the same color as the background if the value = 0. This would give the appearance the column was empty but still had a space, better than all 0’s though. Let me know what you land on!

    • @mjhardee
      @mjhardee 17 днів тому

      @PowerBIBro Thanks for the suggestion! Didn't think about that one, but what I ended up doing was just minimizing the columns until they're almost not visible. It got the job done but wasn't the cleanest, unfortunately. I'll let you know if I find a better solution though. Thanks again for the walkthrough!

    Thanks so much for this video, super helpful and detailed!! My dataset is from a filesystem and I am building reporting on the files within that system. The challenge is that there is currently 32 levels in the max depth and could be more next time its refreshed. Any alternative suggestions for dealing with such deep hierarchies?

    • @PowerBIBro
      @PowerBIBro 22 дні тому

      Thank you for sharing and I’m happy to hear you think the video is helpful and detailed! What a great question, 32 levels is huge! Offhand I’m not able to recall a method to dynamically create levels but I wouldn’t be surprised if one exists. I would probably go brute force and just manually build out a hierarchy 50+ levels to account for future growth and then be set. Thanks for our support and please share with others!

    How would you handle an org structure that skips levels? Like if a manager reported directly to the CEO and didn't have a director over them.

    • @PowerBIBro
      @PowerBIBro Місяць тому

      Thanks for your question! A role type of hierarchy (employee/manager/director/etc…) would have to be treated differently. In your example, taking the roles out, the manager is a direct report to CEO technically. The entire PATH function system is based on child/parent IDs, so you’d need to create your own new data set which has the manager linking to a blank director who then links to CEO. It’s all about the parent/child links in your dataset :)

    Very nice tip indeed the other example that would be good is how to add a totally seperate list of names to use as new column names ie when you import codes rather than text headers

  • @TheMoh148
    @TheMoh148 Місяць тому

    Thank you very much. You can rename the headers more simply and efficiently by using the *Table.TransformColumnNames* M function. This allows you to apply any logic you want to rename your column names in a single step. Regards, Mohammed from Algeria.

    My question here is, doesn't the funnel chart works for also filtering data? Unlike the other charts? I understand that, we generally use measures in funnel charts and the result of interacting (clicking) in a measure does not affect the whole context, but even if we use numeric calculated columns as the steps of the funnel and interact with'em, they don't change anything in the filtered context. I guess it's because the sum of a column (represented by the funnel step) also considerates blank values. So, this is a problem i see with the power bi funnel charts. Any ideas?

    • @PowerBIBro
      @PowerBIBro Місяць тому

      Thanks for this question, glad you reached out! The funnel chart definitely works like other charts...eg. click a section of the funnel chart and it will act as a filter. Make sure these two items below are setup, you may just be experiencing a side-effect of another issue. If you open the file in the repo which I use for this demo then make these updates it should function as you expect, let me know if this helps! 1. edit the model relationship, change the link between [Stage Stage] to have 'BOTH' as the setting for Cross-filter direction, it's currently 'Single. 2. open up the options, go to report settings, edit default interactions to be cross filtering instead of cross highlighting. Hopefully this demo's the intended functionality!

      @@PowerBIBro Thx for aswering, Just saw your pbix file, but the problem remains: Considerating Lead if the first stage of your funnel chart well, you don't have 268 Lead (passed by) the lead stage right? Here we see a diference in the funnel chart logics. If you have a universe of 478 register and your first step of the pipeline is "lead", my funnel chart will display 478 leads (passed by) at the first step, and yours, 268 leads (stopped at). So if you would follow this "pipeline" logic, what would you recommend to use the funnel chart to filter the other visuals?

    Thank you for amazing video How can we do it when we add a new level? When I want to do this dynamically rather than statically, it gives an error. :/

    • @PowerBIBro
      @PowerBIBro Місяць тому

      Love the question and thank you for reaching out! For this process, you'll need to proactively build out empty layers for future growth. To my knowledge there isn't a dynamic way to do this using the methods via PATH functions creating columns. Let me know if you find something different!
