Daniel Halfon is the Emeritus Hazzan of the Yad Harav Nissim synagogue in Jerusalem and a leading authority of the cantorial style of the western Sephardim.
A classically trained baritone, Halfon was born in England and grew up in London's ancient Spanish and Portuguese community under the tutelage of Rabbi Dr Abraham Levy z"l.
He studied Hazzanut with four of the outstanding cantors of the Western Sephardi tradition: Eliezer Abinun z"l, Abraham Beniso z"l, Abraham Lopes Cardozo z"l and Halfon Benarroch z"l.
As a young man he received the call from Congregation Shearith Israel in New York to serve as Hazzan, and over the past 30 years he has been invited to sing in Sephardi synagogues across the world. In 2006 he was appointed by the President of the State of Israel as Hazzan of the Presidential Synagogue.

Tsur Mishelo Achalnu | New York
Tsur Mishelo Achalnu is sung as a Shabbat table song across pretty much the entire Jewish world. This despite the fact that it contains no actual reference to Shabbat,
As I pointed out when I posted an Amsterdam melody for this Piyyut, the themes it expresses closely parallel the content and structure of the Birkat Hamazon. So much so, that there are authorities (R. Chaim of Vlozhin, perhaps being the best known) who actually forbid singing it for fear of rendering the Birkat Hamazon a Berakha Lebatalah!
The melody in the present recording, sung in the New York Spanish and Portuguese community, was probably brought to America from Gibraltar by James Mesod Wahnon who served as Hazzan in Congregation Shearith Israel from 1921 to 1941.
In Gibraltar this melody is used as a setting for a number of liturgical selections including En Kelohenu and Hashkibenu.

Regarding being the only judeo-Espanyol song in their repertoire - isn’t there a melody for no hay como nuestro Dios in Amsterdam, too? Or do you mean only songs originally composed in judeo-Espanyol, as opposed to those transliterated/Ladinado from Hebrew?
Thanks for your comment. My point is that Ya Vendra is only song whose original language is Judeo-Espanyol. Although the Koren Amsterdam Seder Tefilot includes a Spanish version of En Kelohenu, nobody that I consulted has ever heard it sung.
Thank you for the swift answer, ḥazan. Yes, my only point of reference was the Koren Ḥumash as well, as I could never find any Portuguese melody - Amsterdammer or else - for it available online.
