You have to dig up the roots and then keep the grass cut around the tree.
Unless it kills the roots, the poison ivy will be back. To kill it only on a tree, simply cut out several inches out of the vine and the vine above dies. What's left below will still grow, though, but you've stopped ... or at least delayed ... having it strangle your tree -- and it can kill a tree by strangling it over time.
Thank you
Takes multiple applications. Requires removing the vines (a nasty operation, you better wear LONG gloves) and be careful not to get dust or leaf fragments on your skin. And notice that there is no "1 year later" picture. This stuff will kill the existing leaves, but the roots of the vines will be untouched, and they will start regrowing in short otder. So, this video rates a C- or D.
I didn't watch completely until the end, but there ought to be a warning about handling and disposing of the dry wilted remaining poison ivy foliage. Whenever I think about "disposing" of something into the trash, I follow the rules regarding the materials or items, but I always think about the human beings 'down the line' who might handle the trash. For instance, if I discard broken glass, I don't just put it in the trash can and forget it. I try to wrap the broken glass in cardboard or heavy paper, and I write on the outside a cautionary message in large block letters, so that the folks at the waste processing plant don't get hurt. I don't know if there is a way to neutralize the poisonous oils in poison ivy to prevent skin injury to anyone. I have read that even trying to burn poison ivy is dangerous, because the gases in the resulting smoke will cause irritation and harm to the respiratory system.
I’ve tried this and it doesn’t work. The salt, which is what does the killing in Round Up, will kill the leaves, but the actual vine won’t be affected. Sorry
any vegetable oil will kill the leaves on a hot sunny day. They turn black right away. You can still plant in the area.
Wouldn't it be easier just to cut the vine at the base?
I agree. I also don't want to kill the plants that it's growing around.
It could have rooted into the bark.
@@bill-2018 And it could have not. It will un root when it dies from the stem being cut.
@@amalias8888 I did it last year and then got more spuds from the same plant.
@@amalias8888poison ivy is a very resilient plant, and having tried this methid for years, saw the same plant grow back until tried to pull it up with gloves on, and the leaves brushed against my upper arms. Boom poison ivy rash for 2 weeks😂
Scientific studies have shown that glyphosate is effective at killing weeds and people. Exposure to Glyphosate increases your chances of getting Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma by at least 43%.
This is silly, just get the brush killer with glyphosate, made by globalist anti-human corporations Monsanto/Bayer at Wal-Mart. Then years later, on YT, you'll be asking how to treat yourself and your loved ones for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and other forms of cancer. 🤢🤮☣️
Cutting the root is what kills the plant. Spraying it with your solution is just wasting money.
This is silly, just go to Home Depot (or wherever) and get Ortho GroundClear Poison Ivy and Tough Brush Weed Killer Spray with Comfort Wand. It works fast, kills the weed to the root in less than 12 hours.
Just trying to offer a solution without using harsh chemicals.
@@TheHilltopLife I understand, but why do you think salt and acid are somehow better? Anything that kills is harsh, what makes you think the chemicals in your recommendation are any less so? This is just far less effective (so it requires much larger repeated dosing) and takes a lot longer. In many regards it is actually less environmentally friendly. Glyphosate has been in use for decades, and after endless studies, beyond ignorant paranoia, there is zero evidence that it is harmful in any way. It breaks down quickly and is very effective, those are good things. Salting the earth (which is essentially what you are suggesting) is far worse.
Stop with this lame and useless recipe! It doesn't eradicate it at all. It just temporarily halts it's growth and nothing more. It's acetic acid in very low dose concentration.
OHMYGOSH I CAN SMELL THIS THROUGH THE SCREEN! This looks SO GOOD! I’ve also noticed that not that many people have watched this video and I think that you could really bring more attention to this ✨masterpiece✨ by explaining what you’re doing. Simply saying something along the lines of “Today I’m making ____. I really love this dish because it brings me memories of when I was younger” could bring a lot more well-deserved attention. Of course, this is your channel and your videos and anything you do with them is entirely up to you, and I’m not trying to force my opinion on anyone, I just noticed that I know something and wanted to share. This looks so delicious, and I hope to see more of these videos soon!
Does not work!
Awsome
I've tried this snake oil several times on several different sub species of PI in the North Eastern US and have come to the conclusion that while the stuff has an effect on the health of the leaves, it does nothing to effect the health of the root mass. Cutting the vine off at the soil level will only produce a short PI vine which will regrow over time. The leaves of deciduous trees die every fall and return every spring without harming the tree if the root mass and the sugars it stores remain viable during dormancy. The most effective way to destroy poison ivy completely with a folular herbicide is to use a herbicide that contains glyphosate because it will destroy the sugars stored in the plant's roots that were unaffected by the vinegar solution.
I heard that triclopyr is more effective, than glyphosate.
Can this be used on your poison ivy rash as well to kill it
No
I have a carpet of the stuff in my forest floor so most won't have direct sunlight, will it still work?
Good question. I have the same situation.
wouldn't this mix hurt the tree?
Why Eason salt instead of table salt ?
Eason salt is magnesium sulfate. Table salt is sodium chloride. The magnesium is more toxic to plants. The. @mount of table salt needed would render the soil fallow for years. Remember the fall of Carthage? The Romans salted the fields so no one could live there.
i used table salt and it worked just fine
This is the best video in the subject of getting rid of poison ivy i have seen. Your pics of the ingredients, the sprayer, the tree before and after the ivy was sprayed AND the music was awesome. Thank you 🕊
I’m going through my second bout of poison ivy rash this month. I’m miserable. It’s everywhere in my large yard. I’m going to need to try this
From my own experience, after you have contact with poison ivy, you must wash thoroughly all your exposed skin with soap and water. Also, clean your clothes and tools as well to get rid of the oily resin, urushiol, from poison ivy left behind. The worst scenario if you get poison ivy rash after a few days, get the poison ivy treatment from the drugstore and the rash might take a week or two to see improved.
Benadryl works for me. The sooner you take it the better.
The biggest part of getting rid of the oils is using a wet rag to wash with, as it creates a ton more friction in areas you think are clean, to actually wipe away the oils.
@@lovepeony1478 Use a detergent that cuts oil. The aggravating part from Poison Ivy/Oak is oil based. (Dawn is used by many folks)
Get some jewel weed salve. It works!! I’d get poison ivy rashes for weeks at a time, now I put some salve on at first sign, and it’s no big deal.
I can eat poison ivy. Doesn't affect me.
I’ve seen you eat deez in another video the other day too

Can't believe how fast and easy this was!!! So incredibly happy with the results ♥️☺️💯
Did you tried? It worked?
One of my concerns were will it kill the tree . Hopefully that tree was already dead ? Thanks
The tree is still living. 🙂 The mixture is not strong enough to kill a tree.
Not trying to be a wiseguy here but if you are going to pull off the poison ivy anyway, wouldn't it be easier to just do it without using the chemicals? Especially if you can still catch poison ivy from the dead leaves and vines and have to use the same protection to remove the dead foliange as you would if they were alive. Does it kill the plant down to the root or will with root sprout new vines?
Your correct. All you need to do is pull up the roots then wash all clothes and tools you wore.
Doesn’t it also kill the tree and grass?
Here for the music 😍😭
Iv been using this ingredient for years to kill all my weeds ect it works great and it’s cheap much cheaper than round up and it’s ok for kids and animals non toxic
I am crazy allergic to it! Could you just leave it on without removing it. I am scared to even touch it with gloves, I AM THAT ALLERGIC TO IT!
After the spraying of course!
@@jonathanmosebach2921 I'm sure you could just spray and leave it. Hopefully, it won't spread anymore once it is dried up if left.
Everyone is allergic to it! LOL!
@@jampasritalon4180 80 percent of people so yep pretty much
Will regular salt work?
Yes
What else will this mixture kill? How long till other plants can be planted on the ground where it was sprayed?
@Average User how long till the ground could be planted? Your best guess! I've got some gnarly old poison ivy on one side of my property. One vine going up a tree has several branches and is as big as your wrist or more.
If you want to know how to do it yourself, just look for Stodoys.
Fucking bull shit
I heard VINEGAR by itself could kill it too?
Only if you use industrial grade vinegar and it still might come back. I used the industrial strength vinegar full strength (which is not recommended) and some did return.
@@donnawojdacz6969 Ok thanks
What name brand sprayer are you using, and do you recommend it?
I don't know the brand, but it was around $8 at Walmart.
Will the mixture kill the root also?
So far it has, over two years later the ivy still has not returned.
Yes because the leaves absorb it and it goes down into the roots.
Thanks.
Will this ruin the soil afterwards ? All the salt and vinegar cNt be too good for the soil
You probably can't plant anything unless you add more soil back to the area.
Vinegar is very harmful for nature. It lowers the pH of the groundwater for a long periode of time. It is devastating for all soil-living organisms.
