Licenses LEGO Lost to Competitors
Not all licensed themes last forever! These retired themes include intellectual properties from Avatar the Last Airbender to Thomas the Tank Engine. Mega Bloks (Mega Construx) has adopted these former LEGO themes, such as with Spongebob Squarepants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. LEGO even once lost the license to produce building sets depicting Spider-Man movies and comics. Will Nintendo properties like Pokemon, currently licensed to Mega Construx, eventually be licensed to The LEGO Group?

    A reseller is just a scalper in denial, y’all both buy up a bunch of sets in bulk that the kids no longer get - in hopes of selling them for more down the road. You can tell yourself whatever you want to make yourself feel better, but that doesn’t make it true.

    • @slowazzd2165

      So are target/walmart scalpers in your mind then? Cause what they do is buy up stock from lego and then resell it, also kids are perfectly capable of ordering things online in 2024

    • @MarineMike
      @MarineMike 4 місяці тому

      @@slowazzd2165 yes anyone going to target/walmart to buy up multiple sets just to sell themselves for more is a scalper. And when a store sells out where do u think the new inventory comes from, the online stores which then also sell out too lol what a bozo!

    • @MarineMike
      @MarineMike 4 місяці тому

      @@slowazzd2165 the stores buy them at the manufacturers price and sell them at MSRP, so it’s nothing like Lego scalpers buying stuff on clearance or sale then selling them for double or triple the cost. You should study economics some time. And online stores run out of stock after the physical stores do, so what’s the kid supposed to do then? Both your points are moot.

    So I was poking around looking at old TMNT sets.. they're all kinda a bust, bad design, the movie tie in didn't help. But get this there is a 2012 comicon Shadow Leonardo exclusive that is goes for 3-6 grand au. Mr gold is worth about 15 grand for comparison.

    Already commented, but when you're editing the videos you should really try and edit out that couple seconds of awkward pausing in each segment. It completely disrupts the flow of your video and makes each moment of silence feel excruciatingly long as you just stare at the audience lol. I was interested in the topic, but found the video hard to watch as I felt tension with every pause as I waited for you to resume talking. Just a thought/idea for you to consider!

    Honestly, realled bummed out that Lego gave up Spongebob and quite some other franchises. The competition is great, Lego just has a different kind of feeling for certain things. Stumbled upon this video randomly. Overall really liked the topic, but I hope some some critic is fine with you. Maybe it's just me, but your arm movement was really distracting. Maybe some focus on the clips and pictures in the background rather than you being always in focus would help the flow.

    interesting video, tho i will say that there are a few things to consider: 1. masterbuilder sets are not UCS sets, lego themselves said they aren't the same, so they shouldn't be concluded. 2. how the sets were advertised. for example captain rex and the clone captin from the gun ship were advertised as exclusive mini figures for their respective sets, only to come out in a cheaper set. were older sets advertised in the same way? i am not sure exactly, would be nice to know. 3. i am conflicted about this, but i think that minifigures that could be made from other bits and pieces from other sets still counted as exclusive. the fact that you had to go through hoops to make these specific mini figures too much hassel for most people, it would be easier to buy the set they are from in most cases. 4. minifigures that look almost identical to the original design but have a small difference should also be counted as exclusive. they are not the same minifigure,

    "Resellers can be thanked" if you sell it twice the price once the set it unavalaible at Lego, you are part of the scalpers problem Just because you play the long game, does not make it better both scalpers and resellers, buy sets they don't want to sell them for a higher price, one is not better than the other, just less sneaky

    It’s called capitalism. There is no reason to buy any set that’s at retail now or just arrived at retail. You will have plenty of time to buy most Lego products as they are out at all box store retailers Lego Amazon ect. There is no reason while an item is out for 1 to 3 years can’t be picked up at retail or even on discount. If you’re foolish enough to pay a premium on a new item then that’s on you. Retired sets are a different story all together. If you waited to late to buy a set that you had years to buy and didn’t expect to pay a premium.

    In addition to stores upping their security measures, one thing that can greatly help is if people avoid buying LEGO from suspect sources, especially if the price is too low to be legitimate. The canonical example is someone selling sealed LEGO sets on Facebook Marketplace at half the normal asking price. Sure, you get a deal, but you're also encouraging more theft and in the long run some stores will go out of business, and surviving locations will raise prices to cover additional security measures. Theft hurts everyone in the long run. Today's "great deal" only ensures tomorrows high prices...

    Maybe it is possible that the items can have a small stamp in the packaging the size of a dime that can accepted by 99% of people so if we purchased a set at a flea market we could confirm with a store it is legit. At my work we shoot a small scan onto the product and we make about 3500 parts a day. About a million per year. So Lego can put this on packaging so everyone can be legit and before you think about it…. I am suggesting sets that retail over 200. For smaller resale groups it can be done even with rfid labels. People buying an original set that is over $500 shout not bother most.
