Fantastic tutorial, I love the details. It looks like you're using potter's clay which requires firing to complete the drying/hardening process; do you have any recommendations regarding a good clay that doesn't require firing for those of us who do not have access to a kiln? The paper clay and air dry clay I have tried in the past all seem to shrink and cause cracks and similar issues. Do you know of a particular brand you could recommend that won't require kiln firing?

Awesome project! Turned out really nice. I need some advise on these clay/glass projects. I built a substructure of glass jars & plastic bottles. I hot glue them together & filled in around the structure with aluminum foil. I then covered the project with air dry clay - bottom line is that the clay literally has cracked & fallen off the project. What did I do wrong and what clay do I need to use to prevent this from happening again? Kind of a bummer…. Thank you in advance for your time

Your clay might have been layered too thinly? When using foil as a base you have to make sure that the clay attached to it has enough thickness because the foil will thin the clay out from the inside. Since the foil is an uneven surface there will be thinner areas under the clay that you can't see from the outside. You should make the clay thick enough to compensate for the space that the foil takes up on the inside. All the raised areas on the foil will cause the clay to be more thin. Also when air dry clay dries completely it will shrink a bit as the moisture evaporates so this will cause cracking especially in the thinner areas of clay. I hope this makes sense? I can see this all in my head but it's hard to explain in a simple way without going into the science of it all. lol
