Finally getting around to an update about how things have been going for the past 2 months since Lex was born. I forgot to mention in the video that the Lyme testing on the placenta and cord blood came back negative which is quite a relief.

I've been thinking a lot about what this past year has brought and the changes my life has gone though and wanted to share some of those thoughts with you, about not only this past year but the past 15 years since I became sick. With pregnancy hormones in the mix, it proves to be a bit of an emotional topic, but I hope you find it interesting and maybe a little bit helpful to your own life and ...

I don’t know if your flush syringes are sterile. Mine look like that and aren’t so they can’t be placed on the sterile field. Also, you’re not supposed to fan the area. And you’re not supposed to occlude the field with gauze. You have to be able to see the insertion site. Just realized this is like 11 years old.

Hi Annie! THis is amazing!! WHen does it finally heal? I recently (about a week ago) got a single lumen power port for my tysabri infusions. I still feel like it hasn't completely healed. Besides MS, I have Crohns and cancer so my veins are shot. I said to the nurse that I could access it myself. She said "no you can't". I see plenty of people on youtube accessing their own ports. Why not? I have been an RN for 20 years and I have had NP training.... Way to go girl!!!

Long time viewer. Good to see you! Sounds like your plate is definitely full, and I think that with chronic illness, it's important to try to focus on other things, like your involvement in the 'mommy' community. I commend you for that. Sorry to hear about your hubby. I'm sure that's the very last thing you all expected. Would love to see the new baby if you get around to it. Take care.

Hi there, Interesting video. I also had a port installed. I'd like to know, if you had any problems with it and if you kept it after lyme treatment or if you had it removed. How long were you treated with IV antibiotics?

I just went to the ER because although I used massive amounts of spf 50 sunscreen, including using it on easily missed or forgotten areas such as hands, toes, around armpits, I was working in the sun for a few hours and suddenly my lip started to tingle. I stayed in the shade after that, but then my hands began to tingle, and then they felt like they were on fire!! After half hour in the shade, it didn't get better, and I got extremely worried. In the ER they told me to take a Benadryl and it should help as it sounds like an allergic reaction to the sun from the doxy. It was also incredibly cold in the ER, which I believe helped me feel better, although I was shivering and not feeling well at first. I'm on Doxy for Lyme, so they didn't recommend I stop taking it since we really want to get rid of the lyme, and luckily my symptoms didn't get worse. I'm home now, and my right hand feels better than before, left hand still burning. There isn't any redness on them so the sunscreen did work, but apparently the sunscreen is not enough to stop the reaction to sunlight even if you don't burn. I did realize I missed one spot - my lower lip is cherry red! No wonder it was tingling. I guess I'll just stay home during the daytime and avoid the sun for another week until I'm off the doxy, this experience is not something I'd like to relive. I think the sun even felt hotter on me towards the last hour I was in it, as if it was fire on my toes and arms. How awful. And it doesn't help that I was having some sinus issues starting a few days ago too. I'm so over it!

Hi Annie! I am considering getting a port but I am still trying to wrap my head around port, central line and PICC. It seems people with Lyme prefer a port. Watching some videos I realized a needle is involved. Considering I have Lyme and it is possible I will be on IV ABXs for a long time, does that mean I will get poked every time I need the meds or do I get poked once every week and those tubes stay the whole 7 days and I get a new one every 7 days? If it is, I need a new line inserted into my port every 7 days and keep it in the whole week, at that point what is the advantage of having the Implanted Venous Access Port versus the regular central line with those tubes hanging out already? I already don't want PICC because of the maintenance, so I am trying to figure out the best option for myself. I apologize in advance for long questions and I apologize if my questions don't make sense obviously it is a mixture of Lyme brain and ignorance. Look forward to your response.

I'm not sure how important it is to start before you conceive. I was on 1 beforehand and added in the other after finding out I was pregnant. I think as long as you start pretty early in the pregnancy it's okay but I'm not a doctor so don't take my word for it. And you can absolutely have a natural birth. There's no reason to have a c-section because of Lyme and actually I would think surgery would be much more difficult to recover from with Lyme than a vaginal birth.

I've been on Zithromax and Ceftin but I know some people are on different antibiotics during pregnancy like amoxicillin (also usually use with Zithromax I think). I do know that being on 2 antibiotics during the pregnancy and as long as you breastfeed is important. Just being on one offers some protection but not as much as 2.

I have Crohn's disease and I had a treatment of remicade today, and they had to stick me 8 times to get an IV, cause my veins are in bad shape, and they are wanting to put a port in so I don't have to be stuck so much, and my husband doesn't think I should get the port, but I'm tired of being stuck so much, I don't know what I should do!

I too have gp and have tried everything including iv meds but I finally had to resort to marinol, but from one gp to another it would be interesting if your nausea due to pregnancy can be controlled I think about the journey you are both on, enjoy all the moments

Thanks for the suggestion. I've actually been taking zofran for years for nausea from gastroparesis. Unfortunately it doesn't work all that well for me anymore because I've been on it for so long. I also have phenergan which helps somewhat but also knocks me out so I try not to take it that much (and I'm trying to go with alternatives to prescriptions as much as possible during pregnancy). Glad the zofran helped you!

When I was in the e.r. last Friday, they gave me Zofran for nausea. They said it's mostly given to pregnant women! It's an amazing drug. Doesn't make you tired at all, and instantly took the nausea away. Zofran is truly amazing.
