Lets take a drive through the Stockyards of Fort Worth Texas!
Even Fraternities had "taco eating contests at that "Ponchos"
Allen Saxe, a U.T. Arlington Political Science Professor, wrote a column in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram or maybe the Arlington Citizens Journal. Anyway after they closed 7 Seas he wrote: "When you step into the voting booth ask yourself: "Would you buy a used whale from this man?"
🤣😅 "used whale." God, that hilarious! Thanks for that Johnpatrickkinggrandpa. Will definitely share with family and friends on Thanksgiving.
Before this place was "Pancho's" it was the "Great Southwest Cafeteria". Pancho's was a fun & jolly place to go to and stuff your face.
Oh wow, I didn't know that. That makes sense it has the really large cafeteria restaurant build like Furrs or Wyats back in the day. Thanks for the info my friend!
@@theoutseers About that Poncho's location it was competing with all the restaurants in and around 6-Flags Over Texas. What I wonder is how much capital and how many investors would be required to open a new Profitable Poncho's. Cash flow is a serious requirement to keep a restaurant "in the black".
Yeah, it’s actually true that Mr. munch used to be a gorilla, but he still has a two machine but they give their update but now he’s a monster I think
Thanks for the video brings past some good family memories. We used to eat here a lot.
And thank you for watching! Time flies, enjoy that family time, my friend.
It's really sad to see these old buildings, imagine all the years of people having good times at Panchos and now it's just dilapidated building. We used to go to some really fancy Panchos in the 70s in Dallas I don't remember what location. The last time I went to Pancho's in Grand Prairie 15 years ago it was terrible. Thanks for the visit! I'm in Fort Worth and it's cool to see your videos!
Really appreciate you watching Jerry! It really is sad to see the places go down hill. Ponchos could easily still be popular, it's seems they just stopped caring.
@theoutseers I think you were my neighbors in Arlington about 4 years ago y'all moved from LV. I moved out of Arlington about 3 years ago. I introduced myself to yall when you first moved in. I started my channel about 2 years ago. I look forward to seeing more of your videos!
We have never lived in Arlington, I'm in Fort worth and my daughter is nearby too. I must have a twin out there i get mixed up with someone else all the time..lol
@theoutseers yeah my neighbors in Arlington you are both really resemble them they were Filipino but they had just moved from Las Vegas. I haven't seen them in about 3 or 4 years. People tell me that all the time too that I look familiar so I feel like I have a twin as well. Lol
We finally took Iris yesterday! Just in time 🤣
At least you took on the official day!
I had totally forgot about these (Seven Seas and Hawaii Kai). I remember the TV commercials. Anyone remember Lion Country Safari in Grand Prairie?
I have heard of but didn't live here when it was open.
@@theoutseers, I did a quick search. Apparently it was around longer than I thought. “Lion Country Safari, Inc - Grand Prairie, located at S Belt Line Rd, in Grand Prairie, , Texas, United States , was founded in 1971 and the first elephant arrived in 1972. Lion Country Safari, Inc - Grand Prairie closed down in 1992.” I remember news reports that they suffered from decreasing attendance and severe flooding.
Do you know if they’re doing anything special on Halloween day?
Looks like mainly adult themed stuff halloween evening.
I've got to take a trip out to Denton!
Take a short trip to Denton 🤣🤣
I think they are turning that into a Peppa pig amusement park I pass by it every day on my way to work. They have torn down all the putt putt stuff and have almost all the park built it's the one next to the nhr2o behind the sonic on old highway 26
Seems like it's taking a while to get finished, can't wait to take my granddaughter!
@@theoutseers they have most of the ride installed and some of the buildings built but yeah they are taking a hot minute to get it done.
AC was destroyed by copper thieves
great story
Thank you my friend!
I played a lot of miniature golf there in the 70s, video games there in the 80s, drove the cars there in the 90s, and hit baseballs and later softballs there in the batting cages as late as the 21st century.
That's something else, man. To see it through all those decades, time flies, my friend .
Ate at that Ponchos all the time when I was a kid. Grew up on the north side of GP. That area was always industrial.
I remember a mcdonald's being right across the street from six flags, am I imagining that? Thanks for watching my friend!
@@theoutseersyes there was a gas station and McDonald’s across the street
So cool 👻👻👻
NEEDS TO BE DEMOLISHED
I just found your channel & subbed! Loving the content! 💙💙💙
Thank you very much! We are trying to get some more videos up soon it's just been so hectic lately.
@@theoutseers I totally understand! I’ll be looking forward to more videos when y’all get the chance!
I worked here the last run summer of 2000. Night shift here would raise the hair on the back of my neck. I think it was razed 04 or 05.
That sounds creepy!!!! Thank you so much for watching
if you see i actually went inside everything inside is falling apart its very dangourous so please dont go back there unless you like doing risky stuff
Thank you for the tip!! We will definitely avoid returning to this location. Thank you for watching!
You forgot to mention that the Spanish Galleon with the pool stayed for awhile with the hotel....dont know when it was finally torn down....they used to have diving shows with the divers jumping off the galleon into the really deep pool during seven seas days...went a few times when i was a kidl
Whoah i wish we caught that while making this video! That’s so cool. Thanks for the new info and for watching 😃
Super toxic land Fort Worth weekly did a story about it like 15 years. That's why it has not been tore down, I'm going to guess they didn't not tell all the people in those apartments all around it.
Dang, now I'm glad I didn't get in. Sounds like a good article. Thanks for watching amigo!
The Putt Putt Golf & Games championship is the only trophy tou have been given "so far". (You still could win the most awesome drive-inn videos on youtube award)! Keep em coming :)
That's so nice of you to say, thanks you for making my day Susan!
I loved grandys steak biscuits with a side of gravy & a hash brown. Yum!! Had 3 that i would frequent. Traffic circle ftw, Beach st. Ftw & cooper in Arlington.
They did have a great breakfast! Remember the breakfast buffet? It was delicious
Weird fact... Lol. I'm one of the half that can't swim. Always been terrified of water
I can’t blame you!! Humans are meant for land not water LOL
That is so cool!! Can't believe remnants are still out there. Great find!! Love this channel.
Thank you so much for watching! That was one of the funnest days we ever had out seeing!
That place is huge. Would uave got a good workout walking that place. Do you have an update? What did it become? Torn down? Still there? Thanks for another great explore.
Been a few years since I saw it, I remember it being a storage place for a trash company.(waste management maybe) Cool explore.
It was also called Hawaii Kiwi in mid 70s
Yes! Unfortunately was a short lived attempt at keeping it open
I used to do sound in that glass Pavillion rock structure for a church back in 2004
I can tell you lots about the original things on the site, wrote a paper about this place when I was at uta. For instance, the plaque "in honor of JT Upchurch" was funded by the home's choir, and gifted to him and placed it in front of his prayer chapel (the foundation is located in the front of the cemetery gate on the side that faces the creek). You can also see the original border stones of the cemetery. Not sure if the printing press foundation is still in the park because it's been a minute since I've been there, but it used be in the entrance of the park on the corner of mitchell and cooper.
It's such an interesting place and story, thanks for the info AlexEgert!
I spent a lot of money at this very location.
For me, not at that location but have spent alot at other putt putt locations throughout the years.
I used to live on Skylark ( old section ). Do you remember when that creek between the Jr High & Stardust flooded ? Boy that was a mess, some of those people lost their houses due to that flood.
What year did that happen? I had forgotten about that.
@@theoutseers I don't truly remember. I think it was in the early 1990's. The Fire Dept had to rescue the people on Stardust using John Boats to get them to safety. Watauga Rd had rushing water over the bridge ( cross road Stardust Ln.), Police had to shut that section of Watauga Rd down. The flood water actually flooded the backs of peoples houses on Dream Lane. It followed the creek all the way to the cross roads of Avalon, Dream Lane & Skylark. Do you remember when they dredged that creek, an the part of the creek that ran behind Dream Lane. Then they poured cement retaining walls across the bottoms & sides.
Is that in Arlington Tx. ??
Yes it is.
The building looks like a Fire Training Tower. If you've ever seen one of those. Like that building, the kind of look like a rich kids play house. lol :~)
I always loved going to Pancho's when I was a kid. Kept going on an off as a grown up, got to keep up the tradition & take the kids. But I guess all good things must come to an end. Out of all buffets, I'd much rather have kept Pancho's. ** Now that I found your channel, I'll have to go back an check out the rest ! :~)
Thanks for watching JANE_DOW! Sadly, you're right. All good things must come to an end. The older I get, the more that is true
Ifykyk this was THE ponchos the other locations are ass
🤣😅🤣😅
Is it still there, or did they bulldoze all of it?
About 3 months ago I was told it was still there. Hopefully it is.
Took my kids there many times....sad its gone now
I know you mean. As father, too, when things closedown, we used to go to it, making me feel further away from those times.
Here in the Houston area, I don't know of any of them still open.
Played there years ago. Enjoyed some candle light inn & some putt putt. It was fun back in the day.
The layout of this Putt putt is so unique. Thanks for watching Tamara!
Been there a couple of times, peaceful, but sad. Crazy that its so close to UTA.
A favorite of mine since I was a kid, living in Houston. I go to the one in Humble for my birthday every year and thank God it is still open! It's sad that Pancho's is nearly extinct now, minus a few stray locations still open. Gonna miss Luby's too, another awesome place that is nearly dead as well. People, support the restaurants you love or they will go out of business! This was a cool find and just subscribed!!
Thanks Christian! Hard to believe Luby's is gone too.
@@theoutseers here in Houston, there are still several Luby's lccations. The one closest to me is always empty while all of its competitors nearby always have full tables. I wonder how much longer it will be before Luby's ends up facing the same fate as Pancho's? Unfortunately when they were bought out by Calvin Gin back in 2021, they just continued to decline.
I never went but I do remember it from the early 70s going to my aunt's house in Mesquite. It's too bad it didn't last.
They gave it a good go, that's for sure!
I remember it well during my high school and college years as a great place to pig out at low cost.
Man our taste buds were so easy to please when we were younger 🤣😅
And you are actually in Grand Prairie but hey close enough
I kinda of thought that too, being on the east side of 360 and all.
I used to eat at that ponchos for decades.
Me too! I remember it was open in 1972 but I don't remember when that location opened. I do remember when it that building was "The Great Southwest Cafeteria".
Absolutely wrong! This female in this video doesn’t know what she’s talking about! The show brought lots of revune to seaside heights!
Went there in Pasadena Tx and Houston lo ed go n 😢
I go to the one in Humble for my birthday every year.
I ate at that location. I think it was around 2009.
