“Ship of Dreams: Titanic Movie Diaries” was my introduction to not just the 1997 blockbuster film, but the history and “legend” of Titanic herself. Wonderful documentary.

I was surprised to run across this. I met Don 50+ years ago when we were both in a fraternal organization. Don was generous with his time as a teen. At the time, Don was in high school, well-versed in Titanic history, and an excellent storyteller. I remember him talking about corresponding with survivors he had tracked down. Listening to Don in this video reminded me of hearing his stories 50 years ago. I haven't bumped into Don in the better part of 5 decades, but his generosity and passion are as evident in the video as was the case 50 years ago.

Does George Behe have any plans to rerelease his books "Titanic Memoirs" and "Titanic Files"? Maybe as eBooks? I collect all his books but I missed these two and they are impossible to find.

That's the sad part about this famous disaster. It attracts a lot of nonsense, myths, conspiracy theorists and what have you. Some people are also tragically stuck with this disaster alone when history is full of interesting and tragic events to learn about. As for as Titanic goes, some "psychics" either predicting the sinking or traveling on her really is the bottom of the barrel of knowledge. "Psychics" are no more correct than regular people or con-artists/frauds/entertainers who predict events. "The Amazing Criswell" was an entertainer in the 1950's, 60's and early 70's. His whole claim to fame were his observations and following "future predictions". Most of them were rather bizarre and/or highly unlikely, among them that mass cannibalism would occur in 1999 with the End of the Earth being on August 18, 1999. But Criswell also predicted the death of president John F. Kennedy. Or did he? While making his "future predictions" on the The Jack Paar Program in March 1963 he predicted that President John F. Kennedy would not run for reelection in 1964 because something was going to happen to him in November 1963. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated November 22 1963. So Criswell's prediction turned out to be right. For once. So what does this prove? That Criswell was a real psychic after all? No it proves the phenomenon of confirmation bias. First of all Criswell didn't specifically say Kennedy would be assassinated merely that he wouldn't run for re-election in 1964 (implying he was in fact still alive) and that something would happened to him was most likely some "saucy scandal" - for which the president was already infamous for among the public. But all this makes sense only if you understand the historical context. For people of blind faith Criswell's prediction would have been predicted as "spot on and eerily accurate". It was just blind luck. He was a performer and didn't have followers who actually believed he could see the future, but had he been a conman he could have used this "accurate prediction" as a credit to him. Rest assure all the other bizarre and highly unlikely predictions he made would have been ignored. My point is that if some "psychic" said that this "new, great ship" will sink then he or she would be "proven right" but that alone as much as Criswell was "right" about the Kennedy assassination in November 1963. Pure luck which is later remembered by others due to confirmation bias. What about the countless of other "psychics" who couldn't see this disaster? "Many of these stories would have fallen into obscurity if not carefully collected and published together by the author." Indeed. And this author explores/exploits the legend of the sinking of the Titanic by milking the story for all its worth. Some things really does deserve to fall into obscurity.

Premonitions are real, there's been cases where someone had clear dreams or visions of disasters, accurate, one plane crash the guy actually got through to the FAA and warned them, he had details that were just so accurate but not the planes location or number of the flight, after the FAA guys where interviewed and they said what happened, unexplainable. This world is much more complex than meets the eye. Thank you.
