    I don't think they target tourists - it wouldn't be wise of the city, don't you think so? It's more of not being mindful of people who use public transport. It was installed in the communist are, it's a heritage from that time and they just don't bother to change it into an automatic system. We have it everywhere in the country, it's not about tourists in Budapest, trust me. It happened to me quite a few times and I am Hungarian. I just forgot to validate the ticket.

    • @lifesunsnow
      @lifesunsnow 2 місяці тому

      The guy who targeted us certainly made his way in a direct line allowing all other travelers to pass as he raced towards us, we were easy prey, it certainly looked like he was targeting the luggage carrying foreigners. He was a shorter gentleman with short black hair, my 12 year old said he was just missing his toothbrush moustache which gave us all a giggle in such disappointing circumstances.

    • @lifesunsnow
      @lifesunsnow 2 місяці тому

      Going to 10 major European cities with four of my children of which 3 are over 16 years old, to go inside everywhere would have been exorbitant. The cheapest ticket in to Prague castle and Cathedral was a total of 2550 CZK and as much as we would have liked to do that, cost was the factor stopping us. Thankfully Prague offers amazing architecture the castle offer beautiful gardens and views and was enjoyed very much by all of us without having to pay to go inside. Many places do offer free museums etc. like London's Victoria and Albert Museum and the Natural history museum and others across Europe and we took advantage of those. If it was just my wife and I, we would have gone inside the castle and cathedral.

      @@lifesunsnow Yeah, I just saw the whole metro ticket situation. In Prague, the ticket system is exactly the same, but since you had your hotel right in the center, you probably didn't need to use metro I assume. As a tourist you'd likely buy a ticket for the entire day, but there are tickets that are valid for 30 min, 90 min etc. What the ticket machine at the entrance does is it prints the time you entered the metro. So you could buy 10 tickets, use one that day, another one in a week, another one in a month or so - the sole purpose of the machine where you put the ticket is to give the ticket a timestamp. And there are metro employees who randomly check passengers' tickets. The only thing different is if in Prague the guy saw you clearly are tourists and you put in the effort and actually bought the tickets, he'd likely not fine you, just explain to you the system and leave you be unless you encountered a complete pedant. I know this is unpleasant, but don't let that ruin your overall experience. You know, as they say, sh*t happens.

    • @lifesunsnow
      @lifesunsnow 2 місяці тому

      @@FF-wl1oo Yes Sh*t certainly happens, It was just a chain of events no staff at the Metro for advice, the only staff were the enforcement people, they saw we were tourists and made a direct charge towards us, we were easy pray. To top it all as we were getting out of the Metro a dead guy lay there with police and ambulance picking up his stiff body, the next day we climb the Citadel and find its all fenced off, Just a chain of events that has put us all off ever wanting to go back to Budapest. Thankfully Prague was a different story, we really enjoyed ourselves. You got to take the rough with the smooth.

      @@jesszumpappini nowhere in the world do you buy a ticket and then have to put the ticket into a machine 5 meters away from the machine you just purchased it from, unless it physically stops you from entering with a barrier then you can put the ticket in to a machine to open the gate.
