    "We spent so much time unrolling it than actually eating..." Don't you mean "more" time unrolling it than actually eating? Why is grammar no longer a concern for people who are in the business of communicating ideas? If people don't understand you, consider the possibility that it's because you don't express yourself clearly.

    The Bend location is now an AirBnB location. Also one store I remember in the 90s for movies, anime, and related merchandise was Suncoast Motion Picture Company. First place I ever actually saw laserdiscs at.

    One of my first jobs was Suncoast Video at a mall in SoCal. Also loved Hello Kitty store when I was little, and then when I was a teen (during the Nirvana era) I shopped at the Pendleton store for my plaid flannels 😄

    Trying to revive these old toy stores is such a waste of time. Those stores were such a small percentage of why they had so much success. The digital future we live in now has all but killed the concept of quality and creative toys. Nobody looks forward to the release of the newest toys and they certainly dont make toys the way they would in the 90s nor adverstise toys like they did in the 90s. Without brands coming out with innovative tv shows promoting toys and the whole culture that went into that there is no toy store. Just a brick and mortar with an expired brand with a grand opening destined to fail in a short while.

    We had Kay-Bee Toys and K.B. Toys in the same malls, down in South Florida. Took me forever to learn they were the same company, but they were stocked different. Only one of them, I forget which, had a $199 (in early 90's money) r/c monster truck locked behind a glass case, I would drool over every visit. Never seen a Steve & Barry's tho.

    Fun fact ToysRUs has actually started to come back :D One of them is at the Mall of America. Also Blockbuster is still around in the most absurd tiny places in America. One of my friends showed me. I think they are locally owned or something locations but Idk if they are still there it was years ago.

    Toys R Us is alive and well in Canada, however it has changed. Legacy toys like HotWheels and Barby are still present, but take a back seat to trendy UA-cam generation toys like Roblox, Squishmellows, Funko Pops, etc. And they replaced their video game sections with expensive adult LEGO sets.

    • @courtneypuzzo2502
      @courtneypuzzo2502 10 днів тому

      Funko Pops have been around since the 1990s so that's not a new trendy adult toy and Roblox is aimed at tweens and teenagers. as for Warner Bro's studio store for ex that lasted from Sept 20th 1991 to Dec 31st 2001 little more than 10 years I was nearly an adult when it went bankrupt in 2001 around the same time as Bradlees and Ames among others

    Never was a Discovery store or Steve and Barry's here in my part of New England. I do remember a somewhat similiar mall store I saw once called Natural wonders, but that was a store in a mall I visited on a school DC/Williamsburg trip and can't remember where on the East Coast it was.

    Here in Switzerland (as well as in Germany and Austria) "Toys R Us" was taken over by the Irish "Smyths Toys", but it’s not the same. They closed many stores, replaced many popular brands, and narrowed their retail operations. While Toys R Us was its own, huge, store in every city, Smyths Toys are much smaller, book-store-sized shops, and are usually part of a mall or a shopping centre. Though I‘m not in that age group any longer, I buy toys for my nieces and nephews online. Toy stores simply lost their magic.

    Toys R Us in Australia ceased in 2018, but it hadn't been the same for at least 10 years, the stores like Blockbuster were slowly phasing out from the 2000s to the mid 10s, and The Warner Bros. Studio Store the year you mentioned they closed it actually remained inside the World Trade Center shopping centre until 9/11
