When I think back to the 80's/ early 80's and watch this, I realise how primitive thinking we still were about stuff like this. Tbh, I didn't even know or watch Joey Deacon. All i Heard in the playground was "don't be a Joey" and just thought it was a generalised derogatory term, until i later realised it wasn't. I am not sure the same thing would happen today. Chidlren would be more sympathetic, because their societal focus would have changed, although I could be wrong.
We watched this in my school 😅n business I think? It was so fucken bad cus the teacher was laughing the whole time.. you know who you are Boston grammar man
JLC was a twat many moons ago in his private life, I thought him and Alan Carr were good. I’m sure he’s sorry for what happened. Many famous people still pay a fortune to go and see Pete Townshend play. Ronnie O’Sullivan drunk drove a car. People seem to be selective when it comes to celebrities misdemeanours
Here is where it started: This was someone on Blue Peter before I was born....yet this is where we were all guilty of pulling those horrible school playground faces and noises we made; we were doing impressions of a handicapped man unbeknownst to us. It all gets passed on in school playgrounds over the years and starts with one child.....
Why have you spelt his name wrong, both in the video title and your 'Show More' notes? The correct spelling is shown in the video after a couple of seconds. You even spelt it wrong in your profile name, you Joey.
I did the impressions too and my mates. But we haven't forgotten him have we ? And he did teach us all a lesson we only really understand now. Well done Joey.
I can remember teachers getting really angry about all the kids belming, slapping their wrists and saying "neurrgh, JOEY!" someone got told off and had to stand in front of the whole class. the teacher, mere inches from his face, Said "what's so funny about JOEY DEACON?" the kid was so desperately trying not to laugh, the teacher was going nuts.
if my memory serves me right joey was shown on children's school TV on the morning's on itv in the 1970's early 1980's at school. i can remember us watching this or some one similar to joey, i'm pretty sure it was joey deacon.
I remember the sad fact that his name became synonymous with stupidity and kids would say 'Joey' or 'Deakon' in a derogatory way as an insult. So sad. He would be seen as an icon of possibility today hopefully. I just hope that the derogatory use of his name is gone but that in itself is sad if nobody remembers him anymore! Joey you're a legend............
We will remember him, and the fact that youtube does, we can watch, and we can reply, in 2023 / 2024 , 50 years on, proves it rather well, I think ! No-one will be talking about us, or Justin-Lee whatever he was called...in 50 years time.
Michael was writing down in longhand and Tom typed up what Michael had written. Ernie was tested as Joey's interpreter by a woman working at the home. She gave Joey a sentence to repeat to Ernie out of earshot of Ernie. Then she called Ernie over and Joey repeated the sentence. Ernie repeated it word for word and that proved that Joey heard the sentence and was able to repeat it in a way Ernie understood. Then she asked Ernie to look away for a minute and showed Joey a picture and asked what was wrong with it. Then Joey gave the answer and Ernie was able to understand the answer and repeat it.
Ernie Roberts was the only one who could understand what Joey Deacon was saying and not many people could understand what Ernie Roberts was saying so a second interpreter was needed.
Licker 😂
All I remember as a kid was calling eachother Joey's in the 80's only now I realise what it means
JOEY!!! It was the same in 2000!!!
Every school yard in the U.K. the day after Joey Deacon was on Blue Peter 1.13
Bless Joey. 🙏🏻
Hear for him.....see for him
Mm
Mmmnnnnnnmmmmmooooonnnnngggg
Reminds me of my dad after his severe stroke, he was left with a limited vocabulary, but I could understand him.
A can, B can , C can…
Joey Deakon was simply the warm up act for John's Not Mad (John Davidson), star of the BBC QED programme in 1989. He invented Tourettes.

Forgot how much of an arsehole Frankie Boyle was?..... All his new woke 'friends'certainly have...😂😂😂
They are still looking for his shoe... it was seen floating in the north sea in 1987
Do you remember Justin Lee Collins
Blue peter: here's an inspiring story about a disabled man who wrote a book. 80s kids: now this is peak comedy

Well said, that man !
Watching this now, it’s clear Justin Lee Colin’s is clearly on the spastic spectrum.
Joey Deakin was in league with Chris Tate and Davros. They tried to take over the world using mong drool and an old fairy liquid bottle.
It ended well,Joey is now the president of the United States of America.
Nnnnnng Joey Deacon
Justin Lee Collins is a Joey Deacon.
Joey Deacon had more grace than Justin Lee Collins would ever have....
I haven't seen him on tv or anywhere else for a long time, which is probably a good thing.
if my memory serves me right joey was shown on children's school TV on the morning's on itv in the 1970's early 1980's at school. i can remember us watching this or some one similar to joey, i'm pretty sure it was joey deacon.
Justin Lee Collins..... What a mong.
I'm not a fan of Justin Lee Collins but he had a good point about Joey's mate Ernie being like C3PO translating all of R2D2's beeps and boops for us
God I’d forgotten what a smug self-satisfied berk Justin Lee Collins was..
The thing is, what did Blue Peter seriously expect? Of course that's how primary school kids were going to react

Joeeeey deeeeeeeacon🤣😂🤣😂
It's not 'Deakon,' it's 'Deacon.' What a Joey.

What programme is this from?
Kinel
What a prat Justin Lee Collins is.
Deacon touched me
It all backfired. Joey became synonymous with spastics or spaz for short.
This brings back such wonderful memories. At the time it was the funniest thing I had ever seen on TV. Thanks so much for uploading this video.
Joey was a schoolyard put down for years.
Justin Lee Collins- about as funny as Aids.
You absolute joey
And now Justin Lee Collins cannot get on telly for love nor money because he loves torturing women. There but for the grace of God etc.
Who is this moron with the thick stupid Bristol accent?
You came here for 1:11 - youre welcome
Yep, we were brutal as kids. But that was society then. I mean, people were labeled invalids FFS. How derogatory is that??
Still society now. Just these days everyone shoving camera phone in your face and posting it online.
🙏
It's so mean but so funny.
