He is an absolute monster and taught me a lot about how to go about passing a really good Del La Riva. Thank you for the match and for making me better, Professor! Enjoy!

    i love elbow control. Once you have that bottom elbow why do you smash the hips rather then take the free bottom hook?

    • @CommentaryFromaNatChap
      @CommentaryFromaNatChap 3 дні тому

      Great question :) It’s because it slows them down and increases the likelihood of successfully getting the hooks rather than them beating you to the punch and shaking you off the top :) I should also mention it gives greater control and burns their energy.

    In my experience, 99% of BJJ black belts choose not to compete so they don't have to deal with the losing. You not only chose to compete but decided to post and comment on a fight you lost. All my respect for this, bro. Your analysis is always insightful as well. I'm sure you're helping lots of people (including me, of course). Right on!

      Thank you so much for the feedback :) Truthfully, it is hard to lose and harder to post, but this is where the most improvement is done - honest reflection of my skill and appraisal of how I can do better. I’m super glad it’s helpful to you and once again, thank you for the encouragement :) ❤️

    If you are watching this, show it some love, it got copyright struck and he beat the strike :) so give it a like and a comment so it does well. As far as people thinking the handfighting and feeling out is boring, after competing I definitely dont think its boring, once you have competed you see how critical these first stages of the match are and not getting put in a bad situation early, for exactly why you said. People are just so strong and fast early. In my last competition I really doubled down on attrition, focused on getting myself in a strong position early, and making sure my opponent was using more energy than I was for the first half of the match. It paid off with a silver medal more me :D One grip can make all the difference in BJJ.

    I dont agree that JT didnt respect the ankle lock... I've been playing with that exact 'knot' leg entanglement and there really isnt anything you can do on the receiving end. You cant get close enough to fight the hands or fight their head from going away from you. All you really have is to try and detangle the legs starting with their feet while poker facing it like this. The guy basically has you dead to rights, the only thing you can do is not 'show' how close it is and how screwed you are and fight the legs. Seems to me this was all JT was doing. Chuck yourself in that position later and feel how there literally is no escape (Or at least feels that way). Side note: You can fall into this position from tons of places! Smash passes, berimbolos where you stop mid way and lace a leg through, long step De La Riva X style guard positions. Its pretty funky.
