This still works. Just had to start oxidizer first for launch and then switch back to air breathing

This is impossible. You must be in vacuum space in order to maintain speed, air molecules will push you backwards when the engines are off making it lose speed resulting in a landing. So it's impossible.

They must have Saul Goodmen convincing these Kerbels to go on these missions because how do you sit someone down and explain to them the missions that we be doing and still having them come on board, like imagine being sat down in front of your superior and he tells you that you’re going to be flying in orbit of the planet at 7km above sea level and that there’s no way returning without dying due to the landing gears being gone along side the fact that there’s no way to slow down.
