How Christopher O'Riley Discovered Radiohead
Christopher O'Riley started his career as a successful classical pianist, but has perhaps done more than any other living musician to bridge the pop and classical realms with his imaginative and inspiring arrangements of Radiohead, Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, and more. This is the story of how Christopher discovered Radiohead, how his career led him to making these arrangements, and how Sony discovered his project and brought it to life in the studio and on tour around the world.

ok computer: hmm yes this is beatly boys kid a: WHAT THE ACTUAL F- amnesiac: WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS FUC-
The sky turns green Love Radiohead❤
I’ve loved Radiohead since 2001-ish and discovered Christopher O’Riley’s covers around 2006, it’s so cool to hear this story now ❤
Clive Deamer: The Human Metronome.
He great thing of Ràdiohead is that their live versions are as good if not better than the studio version and they never try to reproduce the record on stage
Discovered O'Riley's work through this video and I just know my productivity is about to skyrocket! No more studying with Radiohead on in the background only to constantly catch myself fully engrossed in the lyrics and having to retrace my steps back to reality. Some of these I also suspect will be going onto the sleeping playlist. Just a huge quality of life improvement overall :)
So happy to hear this! You're going to love it he's amazing.
Holy crap, Dallon described his experience with ADHD with/without medication the exact same way I have. It really does feel like someone turned down the volume on a radio/tv. What I'm very interested in is the continuation of band lore for IDKHOW. The music, the videos, other additional content is fascinating and it'd be great to see what happens next, if Dallon chooses to build further, or pursues another narrative.
When Radiohead fans (like me) will discover this change is gonna explode 👏👏❤️
Not sure what you mean! Do you mean "channel" will explode? I hope is! I'm interviewing Clive again tomorrow if you have any questions let me know!
@@radioheadpodcast yes sorry, I mean “this channel” 😅😅 good luck
What a really cool crossover
Right? Are you a fan of both?
@radioheadpodcast that is correct I love the Brobecks and I'm huge radiohead fan. So this Honestly is really cool
Gotta love the recognition he gives to Ed O'Brien ! Thanks for this very pleasant interview.
Thank you, I'm actually speaking with him again tomorrow if you have any questions.
@@radioheadpodcast Is he involved in the upcoming album of Beth Gibbons ? Some thoughts about The Smile album, Wall of eyes ? I saw a video of Nate Smith playing a 3 piece kit (kick, snare, hi hats). Has he experienced this kind of setting/ does he find this inspiring ? Cheers from Nîmes (France) where I saw him both with Portishead and Radiohead in the amphitheatre :)
Agreed. I'm a fan of a lot of the solo projects that Radiohead members do. However, I always feel there's something that Radiohead has that isn't there in the solo projects. It seems that missing element is Ed O'Brien. At least he's a significant (and under appreciated) part of Radiohead's magic.

great interview! love hearing him talk about all this in such detail
Thank you so much for listening, it was such a pleasure talking with him.
Id also lime to add, that when i was at Vancouver Lalapalousa whenever it was, i saw Tom open a gate, and hang out looking at the croud. Wish I hadn't smoked an massive joint with my buddy, as we were too stoned to approach. We wished we'd kept our wit's as we wanted to talk to him, and the band he tured with from UK (the Beta band).
Crazy story! I actually met Thom in Vancouver also!
How about you say that Johnny is a genius, and the rest of the guys aren't to shabby either !
Right? If I ever get Jonny on the podcast I need his secrets for hair and anti-aging.
Phil has three studio albums, actually. Ed released his own solo album in 2020. Jonny and Colin each collab on a massive array of musical projects. Thom has 3 solo records and so on.
Yup it's amazing!
Dallon looks majestic. i love this
Haha.
GLOOM DIVISION!!
It's a great album!
Had it burned. Still bought it Whose in bunker whose in bunker
Same with me and In Rainbows!
@@radioheadpodcast U2 could learn something from how they released In Rainbows 🌈
It gets boring playing the same thing over and over.
Other bands don't seem to mind. Keeps it fresh, maybe thats why they are so great live.
Grateful Dead, phish, umphreys, goose….basically The Whole jam genre has been doing this forever.
100% true, hough I will say (from first hand experience) that the "jam" genre does, by definition, allow a fair bit more leeway within the performance. The ebbs and flows change organically... And that's a part of the draw. People don't go to see Phish to hear them play the album version of "Fee" they go to see Phish riff on the song. Radiohead concerts are, by and large, more faithful reproductions. Not that they just recreate the album versions of songs, but they're much more structured. I guess the difference is that if Trey misses a note it's part of the charm. If Johnny Greenwood misses a note it's more evident. One is not better than the other, but it's not apple's to apples. But you are correct!
True, but bands like interpol disappointingly play the same set every single show. I would argue it's pretty special! Especially the one off performances, like I saw These are my twisted words in seattle. The first time they played it in like 10 years, and it was only played once on the tour.
Heisenberg?
Haha! Right?
True Love Waits is now available on vinyl for the first time! Buy now on Amazon ---> amzn.to/3RKjY1H
i swear this video was made for me
Glad to be of service :)
And then, he changed his first name to BABA.
Huh?
@@radioheadpodcast Not “huh?” WHO?
@@marcochimiowhat?
@@innerspearmusic No, WHO?
okay who?!
Your point?!
Me too. With some specifics, like every time I hear Karma Police I hear Sexy Sadie.
What..? I say this as a massive fan of both, I have no idea where you’re getting that idea
It's not me. It's my guest. 😂 But I see what he means.
Nah
Good band but come on.
Perhaps Thom, Paul, Ringo, and Johnny will form The New Beatles?
NOOOOOOOOOOO
We need to figure out which Beatles Member is each of the Beatles. Surely Ed is Ringo.
No sir 🤣 NO!
I love this happy little song!
clickbait fake opinion. Nobody hated In Rainbows.
I said I don't particularly like it.
That happened to me with xiu xiu
I started to notice a pattern, and I pay attention to it now!
Live Senator Armstrong reaction
Ugh what? Haha
Thom yorke at electric Lady studios is fantastic
Indeed. Love that! But it's not an official release or live album.
@@radioheadpodcast true, but it gives me chills. Especially bloom
It's an incredible live session, my fav is National Anthem from the Sounds Eclectic Session.@@SailHatinSoap
@@radioheadpodcast I've been listening to the smile, and I didn't know radiohead could out-radiohead radiohead.
@@SailHatinSoap I haven't "got" the smile yet, but I also haven't had this sensation with it that I describe in the podcast. I think it may just not be for me :S
Loved this interview! Loved the genuine connection you’ve made with Dallon through music, a really enjoyable conversation to watch and listen to
Thanks so much!
lovely interview! could hear dallon speaking whole day his voice is so peaceful
Thanks!!
Very good!!
my left ear really loved this video
Ugh I know right?! The file on my computer is fine but on some devices its playing only in the left channel...
@@radioheadpodcast lol it’s okay i get it- but seriously, this was great!!!
@@DanJD I appreciate that thanks. In 225 podcast episodes this has never happened to me... of course it does on this epic one. I'll have to contact yt and see if it can be fixed or if I should reupload.
such a great interview!! the conversation flowed really naturally while still balancing talk about radiohead and his own work,, just good vibes all around. also there were so many things fans have been wondering about in terms of stuff coming out(eu tour ect) that he hadn’t answered or hadn’t been able to answer before,, exciting! thanks for including fan questions also personal note i have been wondering if dallon was actually a missionary or if that was just a rumor/joke for a whilee lol as an idkhow music nerd and music nerd in general i’ve watched a frankly unhealthy amount of band interviews over the years and this is definitely one of my favorites dallon has ever done! he also rarely does them nowadays so it’s super cool that you got this opportunity can’t wait to see them this winter in boston!
Thank you I appreciate this! Everyone seems really pleased with this conversation it's great to see!
fun fact! dallon wrote the song Bike Ride as The Brobecks based on his days as a missionary lmao
I didn't know that thanks for sharing!
My favourite vampire.
I love Dallon this is a cool interview
Thank you for listening!
what a pleasant surprise! great interview, thank you :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
So that's why Oh Noel feels so sincere! It wasn't planned or overtly thought out. It makes so much sense
Yes! Thanks for listening.
Great interview! How did you get into contact with him or his management, I’ve been looking into it, I’m really interested in speaking with him if you’ve got any directions you can point me to!
His management actually reached out to me. I am sorry but I can't pass along any info like that due to privacy. However, if you want to email me a message I can consider passing it on: hello@okpodcast.com

OMG where's this country song, we need it!
Right?!
@@radioheadpodcast Actually, need all of those (still listening to the interview, just learned about Radiohead influence in Satanic Panic). But country, wow! And YES, basists writing music are AMAZING!
@@radioheadpodcast Thanks for the rec, btw, I guess Interpol is the next to discover.
You are going to love it. Start with Turn on The Bright Lights, IMO their best! They were one of the best concerts I've ever seen. @@tomash_beran
I should have encouraged him to release this song more forcefully haha. I guess we'll have to see!@@tomash_beran
Thank you for watching! My audio was a little hot the first few minutes, but I fixed it. Sorry about this! I hope you enjoy this conversation.
If you’ll listen to the artists he suggested maybe you’ll know it doesn’t matter that much!
Haha it's true, however I think that preventable mistakes such as this are not really the same as Low Fi. I got excited talking with him that I forgot to check my levels! But I guess you're right that's sort of now part of the "music" here. Thanks for watching! @@matanm2923
