mitamu live at the brooklyn museum / plastic human
earlier this month, i had the absolute honor of performing at the brooklyn museum as part of their first saturday series. i've been mainly focusing on writing new songs for a new album and "plastic human" is one of them! the new album centers on futurism and something i want to see in my future is a coexistence between technology and nature. this song is about someone (or something) turning to nature and its innate wisdom to learn about to exist and be in this world.
special thank you to the best band a girl could ever ask for. playing with these folks is truly special and i'm so thrilled to have had the chance to share the stage with them.

hey y'all, its been a minute! i hope you all are well. i posted a clip of this on my instagram and the public voted for me to put the whole thing up so apologies for the phone dimensions. just wanted to sing for myself in the comfort of my own home. channeling sarah vaughan and ella fitzgerald in this one. i'm always self-conscious of my performance videos but i'm trying not to be a perfectioni...

"is laufey jazz"..."why is jazz so gatekeepy?"... hello, your internet jazz vocalist here to give her two cents. this is my first time making a video like this but after seeing @AdamNeely's video and several discussions surrounding laufey, i felt moved to share some of my own thoughts there's a lot i have left to say but i'll leave it here for now. what are your thoughts on laufey and jazz? i d...

recently rewatched pokémon the movie 2000 and felt some way about it. the environmental themes and how nature holds this innate wisdom captivated me as a kid and again as an adult. the theme for lugia is beautiful so beautiful, i wanted to create a short arrangement of it and write some new lyrics to it. i tried to capture the essence of the movie as much as i can. feel free to use them if you'...

hello and thank you so much for taking the time to listen to my NPR Tiny Desk submission! i was stuck on three different songs but ultimately decided that this was the one i wanted to submit. sometimes all you want to say can be said in a 32 bar ballad. It is a song about grief, death, and ultimately, a love letter to life. one of my favorite pastime activities is lying down on a nice patch of ...

Some of her songs have that Brazilian rhythm (ie, Bosanova). Music is for everyone.
Why are these presenter talk so much in apartheid language.Saviour or not it's placing identity/skin colour that "kills" the enjoyment of music. Why can't it be seen as an art form where creativity is blend from mixed media to crystalise into an artistic intent and expression with good fundamentals. The world is crazy enough with racism, religious extremist & psychotic politician creating wars.Just allow music to evolved, grow and to be enjoyed. Its 21st Century.Enough of putting everything under the microscope. - Adam Neely & etc....
Love this. Love the phone mic too!
Saying “Laufey the savior of jazz , was a bit overstated . But I thought she is pretty amazing …that so young , and talented with bringing a new genre of pop jazz …, and some of her songs , I heard with the string quartet at the tiny desk ;was very unique arrangement , I like her creative side with blending jazz , classical skills create kind of new kind of music . I prefer listen to her instead of Taylor swift or Billie Irish 😮 Happy that she is being famous and more young peoples listen to this music instead of musick . Does not really matter , she is jazz or not ? She is making some beautiful music base on jazz . May be a New genre . Who knows? Jazz’s freak pls chill .
Tis a beautiful time to be 18 years old
Shout out to Minmi for the best track on all Toonami. 🫰🏾
Can you do a cover for silver morning?
Laufey is not bad music. It's very good. Her stuff is competent and well arranged. The problem is more so social. The marketing of this artists is what is problematic. Black American people, we are simply sickened to have another someone coming along and then the media and music capitalist treat our culture like we are once and forever slaves and as such nothing we invent or develop belongs to us. You got Elvis dubbed the king of rock and roll. You have Justin Timberlake as the king of R & B. Now this foolishness. You must understand it makes us seem as if everything we do belongs to the (wyt) master. Please research Hubie Blake and the origin of the Broadway sound if you think I am exaggerating.
Can you please do a whole version of this song from adult swim show or give us a looped version? ua-cam.com/users/shortsi-7FOsc79Q8

The one who is gatekeeping is you. And your jazzy friend AdamNeely.
i came across this show when i was depressed and 13 but this still brings me comfort now at 20
Hell ya! Man, I remember trying to stay up to watch all the shows....Nujabes.... man, I really wish he were still here.
The old phone microphone is brilliant
Such a beautiful song soundds like its Ncient
I really miss those days...
Only Jazz musicians care whether or not something is Jazz or not as if it's the standard by which all music is judged. I attempted to play Jazz for most of my life, and I fell into that as well. The first time I heard Laufey, my first impression was that she had a beautiful voice and I liked what she was doing. After the third UA-cam video, I began wondering if she was Jazz enough for me to like. That's learned behavior and is the result of defining and qualifying music. It serves no good purpose. As I've aged, I've come to recognize that. I think it's harmful. The first song I can remember really listening to was Harry Belafonte's Mary Ann. It was magic. I didn't need to know anything else about it. I've been trying to return to that innocence for years now. I think Duke Ellington's take on music is profound, .."when it sounds good, it is good." What else really matters?
Is there a full length cover?
Fuck yeah 🌹
This was a vibe time❤😊

Love witnessing how much the Japanese respect, admire, and do justice to Afro-American music. They genuinely appreciate our culture there. Much love from the states and respect to Nujabes(Rest In Peace).
