If memory serves, the key unlocks a shortcut? But the mission can be completed without killing him. If you don’t kill him in mission 1, I do believe he’s a mandatory boss on a later mission.I’m not a 100% on that second bit, but pretty sure you can ignore him and the shortcut in this first mission. It’s been a while. Memory is a bit fuzzy.

The pvp system is weird. Has it’s own quirks. It could be a setting, but I’d wager if you are playing online, it shouldn’t matter. I definitely know it’s possible as evident in this video. This guy if memory serves actually invaded me in a solo session and again in this co-op session later the same day. I do recall being the invader once where the host had a friend. But most of my pvp encounters were 1v1.

@tabooandexile it feels more fun than elden ring to me. Elden ring it's like you have a giant health bar that goes away in 1 hit. It's absurd, and idk it just wasn't that fun. I never beat it and only beat a few of the first bosses although I explored a lot. The oddity I'm having in this games co-op, is that when I'm in an area alone that can he invaded, that red symbol on the left of the screen shows up. In those same areas co op the red symbol is not present. It actually never even shows up. The red symbol means it's an invasion area right? Or does it mean people are actively trying to invade and I'm just not on playing co op when they're invading? It's weird tho! Like me and my brother beat a boss and I said alright dude I'm gonna log off. He said right after I left he got invaded haha Thanks for the reply! This fight you had looked awesome as well.

@@pheinted6386 Elden Ring is great. Been a fan of FromSoft since ‘09. Just need to take your time and be sure you are prepared for the hurdles ahead. If you are new to the genre, it’s a good starting point. But not all souls likes are created equal. Some are harder than others. Example: I found the Nioh games to be on the harder side. Lords of the Fallen is on the easier side. But LotF still has its challenging moments. The red icon in LotF was a mystery to me even after 3 play throughs. A friend told me when it flashes you are in the process of being invaded. I always thought you were just susceptible to invasions. And you are correct, unlike Elden Ring, you can be invaded when playing solo unless you play in offline mode. If pvp isn’t your thing, just switch it off. ...and most importantly, have fun! Thanks! And grats! This was my second attempt. I had just finished my 3rd run on Elden Ring, so I had that dodge roll on lock! First attempt I had one fewer health bar and he one shot me with his charge attack. Like a freight train!
