Critter Highlights
Приєднався 23 лип 2023
Hello, my name is Hollie Dee! Do you love animals (like me) and want to learn more about them? Then you’re at the right place!
Secrets of a Riverbed Ecosystem
Every story has a beginning, and this one starts with a simple 10-gallon aquarium. Over the course of 100 days, I transformed it into a thriving, self-sustaining riverbed ecosystem-no filters, no chemicals, just nature at its finest. From challenges like murky water and unexpected critters to the excitement of adding guppies and shrimp, this journey was full of surprises. Watch as plants grow, creatures settle, and a delicate balance emerges. Will this natural ecosystem survive the test of time? Stick around to find out!

It looks good, but that's the wrong kinda foam. It just won't work. You need filter foam, so water can permeate it. I assume it's to serve as a drainage layer. Just my two dents worth
👍
That was cool. Great job. subbed
pond plants don’t take away detritus lol and that tank is way too small for khuli loaches.
So impressive!! LOVE LOVE LOVE! ❤️
I love this video, but in the future, please do an even bigger cooler tank bursting with your life. I hope you can find a great tank with amazing fish to share with us.
That sounds like a great idea! Thank you I will definitely be looking ;) I am actually working on a 100 gallon paludarium at the moment so make sure you stick around to find out! :D
Bravo from Romania Dracula land 😂🎉
Underated channel! keep doing what you do!
Thanks! I really appreciate your support!
lovely
Now here me out, at the beginning you said no pumps, chemicals and then you added a pump-
I meant a filter 😅 a filter cleans the water and takes stuff out with the cartridge while a pump just gives water flow
nice! good quality vid :D
I'm glad you enjoyed it! 😁
😂 KLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Beautiful job. Please try looking into the lens, not the flip-out LCD. Keep up the good work. Thank you.
im from Vietnam, nice to meat you :))
You can use the rounded edge of a credit card to leave smooth silicone beads, as another option.
Great idea!
nice... watching someone build something so beautiful without any professional high-tech equipments feels very relatable to me... PS thats a really cute build...
just subscribed to your channel, its awesome keep it up
great looking tank, would you look at mine and see how i did my tank setup.
Do you have a YT channel that you could post and then share with me? I could give some tips!
I'm halfway through a similar build and have made the same mistakes as you have! Great content though, subscribed and looking forward to seeing where your UA-cam career goes keep up the good work!
You my darling are such an inspiring young lady. My daughter and I love nature and we have different setups, above and under water 😂 I'm a new subscriber from Italy ❤
Wow, thank you!
Really nice! High quality video. I would recommend adding moss though… and a lot of it. Maybe some Java moss in the water and an assortment of sphagnum above.
Ooh yes, I love the idea of moss! I have a whole video on that coming soon. Subscribe to find out!
Awesome build! We are prepping to build something similar for our ball python. How do you get to the pump to clean it? Or is that not necessary?
I don’t clean the pump because when I add more plants it will turn the waste into food :D Have you heard of the Walstad method? It’s basically that, the pump is just for water flow so it’s not stagnant
Wonderful! I am very new to this so had not heard of that but knew plants in the water would help filter but not that it would that well! Thanks for the quick reply! So excited to get building 😊
Just make sure to heavily plant it otherwise it won’t work. I don’t show it in this video but I would recommend stem plants that grow quickly. I have a video coming out soon that explains how to do this over the course of 100 days that’s compacted into a short video.
what species u keeping in there ?
Gargoyle gecko ;)
The Quality and Build guide for this video is so much more detailed than other Videos. Amazing Quality! and gave me many ideas for the tank i'm going to build. Plus the products you used List is so helpful!
Aww thank you!
Same 😊 new sub❤
Not me using a tabletop Waterfall fountain for my loe gecko 😂 hey avoid the sitting water ✔️
Nice! Is anything going to live in the water?
I was thinking some shrimp, snails, and MAYBE I could fit two killifish. What do you think?
Yeah! Shrimp and snails would be cool. I'm no expert, but I wonder if fish would have enough space there. How many gallons of water do you have in there?
It’s about a gallon so honestly I don’t think it’s right to put any fish in that size. I’m actually working on a 100 gallon tank right now with a huge water section. Basically it’s going to be like a real rainforest but I’ll definitely need some suggestions! The water section will be about 10 gallons :)
That sounds neat! I'll look forward to seeing how that turns out. You gotta put something cool in there, for sure. Maybe like some badis or pygmy sunfish or maybe some puffers. I've always liked the idea of bumblebee gobies too. I haven't owned any of these before. I just enjoy them in other peoples' tanks so take my input with a grain of salt 🤣. I feel like chili rasboras are cool contrast in a very green environment. Fork-tail blue eyed rainbowfish could be cool, too. Hatchetfish would match the biotope for sure. And maybe some salamanders or vampire crabs, too!
Ooh ok! Love all of the suggestions I especially think the bumblebee gobies and hatchetfish would look incredible in there.
Awesome 👍😎
mip
lol dis funni
cool :D hi
Love it!
Ah yes. Sand with live plants….Good luck buddy
I have a whole video coming very soon of how I did this exact thing! Subscribe to find out! It’s a complete bioactive tank that cleans the water for itself so I NEVER have to do water changes :) it’s pretty cool
Yeah...and don't buy fish from there either RIP Firefox I...
Pool filter sand is the best and it is wayyyyyyyy cheaper than anything petsmart or any pet store will offer you. Just wash the sand in a bucket till the water comes out clean.
No net? Ya tell that to ever aquarium store ever 😂
I'm imagining trying to catch a fish with a bowl 😂
Haha normally my fish will just swim into my hand :) but the most responsible fish stores use bowls because they know what’s best for the fish
Another thing that you should never buy at PetSmart: PETS!
Things not to buy at Petsmart everything don’t go to Petsmart or Petco
Although I didn’t mention it in the video, if you have enough plants (and follow a walstad method aquarium) you won’t have to do any more water changes, but your may have to scrape down any annoying algae and do water top offs. I hope this clears things up 😊
Any tips on the invasive snails that usually come with those plant?
@@ragingmillennialSnails are good for an aquarium because they eat algae and old food and certain species aerate the sand. I would NOT recommend the assassin snails at all. Those are considered the only bad snail. If you have an overpopulation some fish will suck out the snail out of its shell and eat them. I had a German blue ram once and he ended up eating 200+ snails in less than 3 days!
Have you heard of a gravel vacuum? 😂
You should always clean your fishes tank because of algae everything is 🧢 CAP
Oh I wonder y my fish tank got dirty fast good to know
