Durston X-Mid Tent Setup | A Few Simple Hacks For The Perfect Pitch
I will show you a few simple tips on how to set up your Dan Durston X-Mid tent to get the perfect pitch every time. A few simple adjustments on the inside and outside of the tent will make the Durston tent more comfortable and you can adjust it to your liking. We talk about how to create more headroom, how to get the outer tent tight, how to get rid of the gap etc.
As one of the BEST and AFFORDABLE lightweight hiking tents, the Durston X-Mid can be quite challenging to set up perfectly at first. But after using it for over 1500 trail kilometres, I have learned a lot about how to pitch this tent perfectly for a good night's sleep, even in windy and extreme weather conditions.
Whether you are wild camping or are setting up your Durston X-Mid tent on a campsite, these tips will help you feel comfortable inside your tent even in the wildest weather conditions.
*UPDATE:* Since publishing this video I have been in some wild weather over the last year. With winds of over 100 km an hour, horrible mountain conditions and some very wet weather, I am honestly still very impressed with this tent. #durston #hikinggear #backpackinggear
You can buy the Durston X-Mid series directly from the website www.durstongear.com

    It being a trekking pole tent doesn't make it a con. You know beforehand that it needs trekking poles. That's like me buying a regular tent and saying that a con is that it won't work with trekking poles.

    Good tips. I wonder how one goes about identifying snakes. It seems quite a specialized area. I lived in Africa for two years and there were snakes of all sorts in many parts. My approach, being young back then, was to remember that I'm immortal and I just went places that smarter people would not have. Now I"m older, and it seems obvious that counting on luck is a poor approach. ;)

    • @DorisHikingAdventures
      @DorisHikingAdventures 2 місяці тому

      I think it's about researching the types of venomous snakes in the area before you go. Australia is full of snakes and to this day I am still no expert haha, but i know how to identify the deadly ones 😂 And i was terrified of snakes at first, but now i know they will leave you alone if you don't corner them 😊😊

    I normally like tents with a separable inner and outer, but I bought my Durston a few weeks ago, and this time I went for the single wall Durston X-Mid Pro1. I did that for the stronger contrast to my normal Hilleberg tents and for the extra space that the one person Dyneema version offers versus the one person double wall version. Just like you, I find the pitch quite easy to do if one does not seek perfection, and has flat ground, but quite the challenges if one does want perfection or encounters high and low spots on the corner surfaces. But I've only had it up about four times, so hopefully it will get easier as time goes by. The details and the quality of the Durston gear is outstanding and while I don't really care about ultra-light, I'm not complaining about the one pound (454 gram) weight neither. I'm glad to have found your review. There is bth a "skinny pitch" option for the Durston, for when the space is tight. Lastly, for those who don't want to carry trekking poles, it should be mentioned that Durston sells their ingeniously designed Z-Flick adjustable carbon fibre supports for a reasonable price, and they weight in at 93 grams and pack down to 31 cm. I love m'.

    Carry not to heavy helps, the underground you walk on matters. Stop and dry your feed helps. Walk barefoot a bit or backwards on the beach. Clean the socks or the shoes. I pop a blister because its more painful to have a blister. This pain makes you walk different and create an other blister. I try to dry the blister and disinfecting the blister with iodine.

    Dori - looks a great trip … but one big mistake … you should have done the side trip to Pine Valley … Walks in thru some stunning temperate rainforest (best section on the overhand track), beautiful camp sites amongst flowing creeks … the fabulous Cephissus falls , a great hut location … and the possibility of a day walk up the Acropolis for some of the best views on the track … next time you’re near lake StClair you need to catch the boat to Narcissus and walk into pine valley … so 2-3 days (if u do the Labyrinth as well)

      Omg I am so sorry! I gave you the wrong info. For some reason I thought you commented on the overland track. 🙈 Here is correct info: There is a watertank at every campsite. I usually carried 3 liters on the C2C and made sure I had about 0.5 liter left at the end of the day just in case. If tanks are getting low, people usually report this in the FB groups so have a look before you go 😊 I also filled up all my bottles in the towns (usually you can find a tap near the toilets) It doesn't really matter which direction, but I prefer N-S. They say the wind is usually behind you then, but it will be tough either way 😊

    The perfect thing you brought up here is the two socks. Blisters are caused but the sock gripping the shoe and the foot moving in the sock, the sock causes it rubbing on the skin. There are blister prevention pads that you stick to the shoe and lets the sock "micro" slip in the shoe and the foot and sock moves as one. They are very slippery and when the blue color wears off its time to change them. Engo is one brand. The liner sock does the same. It clings to the foot and doesn't let the outer sock rub on the skin when it grips in the shoe, you have sock on sock rub instead of sock on skin rub.
