Digital transformation is unlocking new opportunities for strengthening Quality Infrastructure (QI) globally. Digital QI tools and procedures can enable innovation and more efficient operations, contributing to overcome geographical barriers and increase trust such as, through real time verification of certificates and accreditations. Both industrialized and developing countries can benefit from these advancements to optimize their existing systems and boost their global competitiveness. In particular, developing countries can leverage digital solutions to expand their participation in global trade and achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs).
To fully realize this potential, several challenges need to be overcome, related to the complexity of this endeavour at the technical level, but also at the organizational and coordination level. QI institutions worldwide have been engaging in activities to transition their services and processes towards digital ones. Knowledge sharing, capacity building, technology transfer, and international cooperation need to be strengthened to advance the digital transformation of QI for the benefit of inclusive economic and social development globally.
