IMHO, the NX-01 is a very good bridge between the Phoenix of FIrst Contact and the TOS 1701. Does it resemble the Akira class? Sure. There are similarities between all Trek ships. I do agree that the 1:350 Polar Lights was a pain in the ass to build, though. Even though construction sucked, I gained a lot of appreciation for this design during the process of working out all of the details. Here's my build with a custom-designed lighting system, if you're curious - ua-cam.com/video/HMGIy_lfd5I/v-deo.html

I appreciate your input. Everyone looks at things through their own lens. I look at things as an old school TOS fan and saw that the Akira-prise was a rip off of Denis Bailey's work and the aforementioned Akira. I literally laughed when I first saw it. As an engineer, there's no excuse for the design issues in the model kit that hit the market. =/\=

The ship had a distinctive feel for all the reasons often given, but the lighting and results of the compositing, grain, and video effects all lent it an odd contrasty rustic glow that I treasure and which no one has captured yet. The old effects make me feel like I am seeing something magical and real but filmed with 1960s tech.

When you go out of your way to subvert expectations, turn seven into a man hating drunken lesbian, because reasons... It's not the same series and to be honest none of the new Trek in the last 20 years has impressed me at all, except with how bad it is. It's all a reason why Paraborg is dead. It only pandered to a very limited section of the audience as a whole. Finally, if you look the "Relativity" and the whole Section 31 time jumping episode where Seven had to go back and forward in time... She had no implants, or they were hidden by holodeck tech. It all started with a guy named Sasser who is no longer with us and the current "Experts" who are anything but have kept it going, it was actually a personal FU from Sasser to me and a few others. it's not there, it never was there, and Greg Jein did not replicate it on the 6 ft. model.

Unfortunately, the time spent dealing with fit issues caused by gaps between components- especially the clear observation window- eventually forced me to keep the box and throw away the kit during a move. That can be used for windows. Even clear two-liter soda bottles can be cut up to make windows. Actually, we are only steps away from having flying drones. Now, I worked on the Tomahawk cruise missile program, and we worked specifically on salt water activated missiles that would launch from the sea, so technically we have had flying submersible craft since the 80's I know because I was there. You are therefore wrong! www.google.com/search?q=US+Navy%27s+flying+sub+drone&sca_esv=b94808497f26672b&sca_upv=1&source=hp&ei=Rp-OZpWoNfX-ptQP2ISskAk&iflsig=AL9hbdgAAAAAZo6tVi-yEkT1tB50OWKhzBqzsJEfoLUv&ved=0ahUKEwiV4_zu25yHAxV1v4kEHVgCC5IQ4dUDCBc&uact=5&oq=US+Navy%27s+flying+sub+drone&gs_lp=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&sclient=gws-wiz#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:7de0d537,vid:I3ltznqQp-E,st:0

Thank you. You're right. They keep making the same models year after year, charging an arm and a leg for cheap, mass-produced styrene kits and most often they are totally inaccurate to the filming models.

Cool! I believe that pattern was also used in the hallways on the Enterprise, too. Along the ceiling as dividers or something. Most likely designed to help hide that the ceiling was open, as well as hiding the set lighting.
