    Thanks for sharing! Do you find it easier carving the rough of the arm attached to the main piece/body rather than carving it detached and then glue it on?

    • @S.Hunter
      @S.Hunter 2 місяці тому

      There are times where I will carve a portion of the add on piece prior to attaching it. Doing so can make it easier to handle, however, if I carve it after it's attached it helps me "see" How it works with the main piece. If I am carving from a pattern that has been proven to work I am more likely to carve more before attaching. Thank you for the question.

      @@S.Hunter My pleasure Steve! Tell me about your video setup. What kind of camera are you using? Are you using a tripod, a harness, or what do you use to hold your camera?

    • @S.Hunter
      @S.Hunter 2 місяці тому

      @whittling I am currently using a GoPro Hero 12 Black camera and have been trying different mounting options. I have an adjustable wall mounted boom with a ring light that I modified to mount the GoPro in the center of it. I use that quite often. I also have a GoPro mounting bracket on the front edge of my desk that I use from time to time, it's what I used for this last video. The other mounting that I use is actually a shooting tripod that I use when deer hunting. I found it to be quite handy. It is a Primos brand trigger stick gen3. It came with a 1/4-20 mount that I have attached a GoPro mount to. The nice thing about it is the legs are a tube in tube design that traps air in them making the act like pneumatic cylinders. There is a trigger just under the mounting surface that opens a valve to the legs and allows you to freely extend, retracts or angle all of the legs simultaneously. It operates super smooth and allows me to position the camera effortlessly. For the rotating progress shots I have another GoPro mount on my desk in front of a small turntable. I carve a few minutes and then place the carving on the turntable to record 30sec of thar then carve more....rinse and repeat. The GoPro works OK, but I am considering adding a second camera. Always trying to figure it out!

Now the title is slightly different and those original comments are gone. That's my fault! Shortly after publishing the original video i noticed some video quality problems that i couldn't leave as it was. What type of pen do you use to sign your carvings

    • @S.Hunter
      @S.Hunter 5 місяців тому

      I am glad you asked. I realized that I actually missed a section in that last video. I had recorded a bit about the pen and me signing the carving and somehow, in the long day/late night editing, it got missed. I should do a follow up video and improve some of the lighting and background issues as well. Anyway...in the past I have used an ultra fine sharpie but since I have been using the dead flat spray, I have found that the sharpie actually reacts with that and before I get done with the signature, the sharpie plugs up. I have tried a couple of other pens and the one used to sign that carving in the video is a pentel gel pen. It took a little bit of writing with the new pen to get the gel flowing, but now it writes really nice on the sealed carving with a nice clear fine line. Another thing that I forgot to mention in that video was to be sure to spray a coat of the sealer before signing, let it dry, then sign and cover the signature with another coat of dead flat spray. I do have an affiliate link to the exact pentel pen on our website, huntersmake.com.

    Your carvings are beautiful! A couple of tips for the videos… bring the lighting more to the front, your eyes are pretty dark. The green screen effect is a little distracting, maybe a fence made out of some cheap pickets or a large format print? I don’t hand carve, I am so impressed by your work!
