I have subscribed for the first time from Bill. I have also uploaded some recent content on my channel as well under my playlist (Christmas 2024) Bill's Channel 1987. I completely understand the swearing that's coming from you as you were having an absolute frustrating time at the moment. Around late July and August this year I will be doing a massive road trip to Perth and back to Mount Gambier South Australia that will be a big journey for me and also will be going on to my channel as well.

Out of curiosity. How many kms did the prado have when you bought it? did it have some service history?
The incompetence in this country is fkn astounding. Prado, is Toyota’s word for crap.
I hope you get it sorted and it doesn’t cost you too much but I think it will I’m sorry that this has happened to you I hope you can get out of this horrible mess my love goes out to you I wish I could help financially

The youtuber fourby4 diesel is the expert on these engines, he rebuilds these motors to be bullet proof. He’s QLD based, he’d be able to tell you in WA who is reputable and who isn’t. I’d reach out to him on socials, I’m sure he’d be super helpful. Might even be able to get you one of his motors sent over.

Toyota Prado/hilux that model 3 liter d4d at the current time are exploding so often that importers are searching world wide for second hand engines ! Sorry to hear your situation ,wish i was there i'd help anyway i could ,Just be careful that everyone will try to rip you off, Once your away from anywhere like that the sharks appear ! $13,500 is about what it will be ! I've seen $17,000-$20,000 ,If you go secondhand out of a wreak as long as the k's are low but the age of the engine type will mean that k's will be high ,but you might be lucky ,let me know how you go
@@rodneyhinkley7910 thank you 🙏🏽 yeah I’ve actually just had another mate go through the same thing recently and she paid $17000 and that was with a secondhand engine! I got a few quotes so far and $13,500 was the cheapest by far so hopefully it all works out well and we can get back to the travels soon!
I really feel your pain! Unfortunately those D4D Toyota diesel engines are known for this. Same thing happened to me in my hilux that runs the same motor as the prado. Unfortunately it will be a replacement engine, the injectors fail and the piston ceases is a very basic description of what happens. Toyota wont help, they actually recalled this motor in every other country except Australia to be repaired before this happens. There is actually a class action against Toyota for this very reason. I hope your luck changes maybe another brand next time. Toyota reliability? Oh what a feeling!

First off I new your 120 cracked a piston , how many km's has it done ? Toyota recommends replacing fuel injectors at about 170 km's due to wrong combination which causes cracked piston . Cheapest solution is to put a low km's second hand 1kd-ftv engine in it . Rebuilds don't go very well depending on the machanic , be careful these a lot of doggy machanics out there which are butchers . Good luck girl !

Bit of a shit time of it for u and ur travel party. Do u think what's happened is the tow guy probably heard it on his scanner that ur car was out there and he's gone and picked it up to make money off it. And held ur car "hostage" til the fee was paid for. Hopefully it can work out well in the end, rid the prado and get a mux ahah. People who whinge about language need to get a life, men swear women swear they are just words ahah.

Hey Ash, sorry you had to go through this experience. You have the exact same problem that Steve from "Caravan Travel Australia" had. Apparently there was a batch of pistons that didn't meet Toyota's manufacturing standards. You may want to look at that and speak with Toyota as well to see if they can sort this out, as I don't see any reason why you should pay for a manufacturing defect. Hope things sort out soon, take care. Edit:- It's a problem with the bigend conrod and bearing issue.

Pretty common the old cracked piston if the injectors are flogged out. Recommended to be changed by Toyota every 150.000 ks
@@ToranaA9X308 yes I’ve learned this the hard way now, will definitely be investing in doing that and making sure we’re never in this situation again!

My GF and I broke down in Norseman in 1975 when stopping for a toilet break. Fortunately it was just a dead battery and luckily I got one from the servo but had to carry it a few hundred metres to the car. No more car dramas all the way back to Qld. I am amazed at how unreliable modern cars are now, no matter what make, all the horror stories of engine failures. The government adhering to the Euro emission standards hasn't helped. I would certainly think twice about undertaking another road trip to WA.

Just buy a falcon rtv ute,new motor $200 at the wreckers ,swap out,$1500 on the road again

Very rare for that series of Toyota Diesel to crack a piston if the injectors have been replaced every 150,000 km or so and the Fuel filters changed every 20,000 km
@@kisbushcraftdownunder well I know 2 other people who’ve just gone through this exact issue with their prados and one was my mechanic so I’m sure hes onto all of that
Id try find a deceny replacement engine from a wrecker to swap out. Cheapest option for you.
@@caseydixon8714 I’ve already looked into this option but it’s been hard finding a mechanic who will do the job. A lot of them I’ve called said they can’t or it’ll still cost around $10k
Tough times, you did well dealing with it all.... should try find a low Km motor replacement

i got stuck on the Nullarbor for 7 hours with two flat tires the tow truck blokes in Norseman are lazy pricks
I've got no idea how you fund your travels Ash but that's becoming very expensive

Sorry to hear the bad news. Owner's of the 1KD prado worst nightmare to do a piston. Reach out to Greg Adams automotive services, has alot of experience on these prados. Located in Balcatta WA

I've really missed your little adventures it's a shame we had to catch up with such bad news. Two of my friends in the last month have had the same issue with their engine's which are the same as yours apparently Toyota had a bad batch of pistons and if your engines one of those they will help out with the repairs to what extent im unsure.
@@outtyrider thank you I’ll be looking forward to getting back to them one day soon! I know two other people who have experienced this in the last few months with their prados also. I’ll have to look into that would be good if they did help out with it or cover some of the costs

Bugger me another prado bites the dust leaving families stranded in the middle off no where , it shits me Toyota stick a landcuiser badge on a city SUV and suck people in that's its a real deal dinkum landcuiser , it's not and will never will be , bloody dangerous , I pray it turns out well for you and your family 🙏

@ My Colorado dropped the serpentine belt on NYE right at the boat ramp as I was launching my boat to watch the fireworks later that night. Not the best time or place but thankfully I managed to put it back on so I could retrieve my boat after the fireworks. It cost me $318 for a new belt and tensioner pulley once Repco reopened a day or so later. I’m pretty handy on the tools so at least I didn’t have to pay for labour to get it done. Yeah, I’m glad I happened close to home not out in the middle of nowhere!
