UA-cam knows that I consider this the best videogame ever that it was the first video that appeared to me in the day, thank u algorithm 🫡
it's so good! I'm excited to play this version more because I never got far in it. I definitely don't have the patience for random encounters on-stream as I do off-stream, but I think streaming DQ2 recently did that to me lmao. thanks for watching, hope you catch the rest on here or twitch!
Wow dude, this is great stuff. A sombre yet soothing tune and your vocals make a perfect combination also. I get some Kings of Leon vibes from this song, their more calm songs that is. Not to compare but I think thats a great feat especially for a demo! I look forward to hearing more soon :)
This is incredible. So soft, delicate & vulnerable at the same time. Man, such power in the lyrics & phasing deliver too. (Sorry, music nerding).
I remember that cutscene and Dragon Quest 3 SNS even though it was in 2D graphics it was still awesome seeing the hero's fault pretty much fighting a dragon and going out like a boss.😃😃😃😃 but for some reason they didn't put it in the remake ???
Solid video but I found the bit where you talk about the game from as a product kinda lame. Yeah companies want to maximize profits, but companies don't make games, artists do. It's sad to see how deeply capitalism has infiltrated the way people talk about games especially considering video games are such a young medium compared to movies, music, prose etc. If you love this series you should treat it as art and not as a product or toy.
@hellzaboppin2040 you missed the point entirely-at no point do i ever not consider games art, nor do I make any value judgments on their existence as art. I was speaking from the view of those who produce these types of projects and why they exist commericially. I didn't want to delve into personal politics in this video, but I am staunchly anti-capitalist lmao. regardless of my views, games are products-regardless of their artistic merits. the bottom-line for games created under giant corporations is that that theyre designed with sales in mind. Thanks for trying to be didactic about the wrong thing, though. I'm glad you understand that DQ is indeed art.
@@ceruleanskiesTM I think UA-camrs do this thing where they try to speculate on topics (especially related to game dev) they personally don't have expertise on. Market analysis, corporate mandates, stuff like that. I mean look, you've got Dragon Quest, this beautiful Swiss watch of a video game crafted with love by some seriously talented artists. Those artists made Dragon Quest not because of their corporate overlords, but in spite of them. Its got some serious heart, if it didn't I doubt you'd care about it. No need to muddy the water with armchair market analysis, let the game fully breath on its own merits. At least that's my two cents, take it or leave it. Didn't mean to come off as hostile, you seem alright.
My man what is this aspect ratio? 😭
yeahhhh we dont talk about that one
I’ve always wanted to get into “Saga” games more, but was so lost. This remake made it a lot easier & more enjoyable for me! (“Late Night with the Devil” was the bomb! One of the best horror films I’ve seen in a while!)
yoooo you love to hear it-and great taste! thanks so much for watching!
🎉🎉🎉
@@trashlevania yeee we bustin
"I wish this game had real graphics" That is extra funny to me considering you were talking about the ugly-as-hell gbc version 😂
@@Morgil27 it was a dark time in Young Joie's life smdh
NES veteren here. I gotta say I love the 2d hd remake. That's the short answer The quality of life improvement allows you to quickly heal up after a tough fight and press on quickly. The difficulty is dependent, not just on what you pick for difficulty but also the choice of the player. I never got to experience the personality mechanics, so that was also new to me. The voice acting is welcomed, and like a new book of a familiar story, it is hitting the best nostalgic parts of my soul. The combat is both difficult and easy. If you go into a new place unprepared and ill-equipped, the game will punish you. But it is easier in how it gives the player information and this gives you a chance even in a difficult area. Blue for ineffective attacks and red for getting a weakness being one example. Leveling up refreshes your character, which gives the player a means to better grind or push deeper into a dungeon, thus making the early game less grindy.
@Domanese thanks for sharing your thoughts on this! I'll be putting together a review for the Remake-I got the platinum a few days ago, so I put in some serious hours. Pretty much agree with this unilaterally, but I'd like to go into depth on some of these points. Thanks again for taking the time to write your thoughts, and i hope ya check out the review when I cook it up

@ceruleanskiesTM Forced to censor Akria Toriyama's art work for western distributors because of blue hair liberals.
The SNES version looks stunningly good.
it's beautiful! super late game in the console's lifespan (1996!!), but damnnn does it hit an aesthetic stride
I remember pretty much playing through the entire game anytime I got free time in class during my freshman year so its got a special place in my heart cause of that alone. It's really one of the most quintessential JRPGs if you're looking to learn more about the genre as almost every modern JRPG follows the foundation it laid out in one way or another.
emulating games in high school is an absolute core memory. thanks for sharing these insights, friend.
Without grinding one will not experience true DQ. ps. The rest is negotiable.
Still makes no sense why SE shoves Tamers as a bad thing and ditch it by name. It's been going on too much. Monster Wrangler is nothing more then a Blue Mage but in a Dragon Quest style. Tamer/Monster Scout/???Whatever now it is called??? is ???????????????????????????????????????????????????? Because that is what we're seeing and not SE unless it's a spin off which I don't know why it was considered a spin off like look at Dragon Quest V that is so based if taken away would one make no sense and two be extremely hard to beat going on heavy grind. SE flipped the bird on DQVI Taming and now I see Monster Wrangler just a Blue Mage when the spin off literally was going for that tamer. It brings to questions is there a tamer class besides DQV and not by history but now?
This is really the SMB3 of JRPGs. It perfects everything that was foundational for the genre. Every game after this is in direct comunion with this game one way or another. This is the essential meat and potatoes experience.
absolutely! clapping for this comment, hell yeah
Rewatching because this truly is a banger
@GameDadVII thanks for watching, my guy-even if it's just for the Johntent. Gamedad DQ arc when

Wow, Joie! This video is really good and that's coming from someone who has only ever dabbled in this series. Although I have not much experience with the DQ games, I appreciate your viewpoints on "modernising" classics. Ys being a great example, in my opinion. Honestly, watching this video has peaked my curiosity so I'll definitely check out this remake when I can! Also, you have a knack for this kinda content. I'm hoping to see more soon! :)
@CalixerGC Cal, you're the best-thank you so much, brother. God, I have so much to say about Ys in that respect. Maybe that's next, but I still haven't finished X 😕
@@ceruleanskiesTM I still haven't got around to X myself... so many games auughhh!! Look forward to the inevitable Ys yappathon tho ;)
The conversation about the "definite versions" of games is really interesting. Sometimes I lose perspective and forget not everyone like me goes into goblin research mode and usually just grabs the newest one.
@prettycody I feel that; usually what I have to say about the newest version of a game is that "it's the best to actually play." I do a sily amount of research too-Big Version Guy (TM) here
idk why but Jon is giving me skelly blacksmith in the catacombs of DS 1 vibes with his "I have this and you don't" audio. Love the video man!

@@Suikojunkie I used the HELL out of Imperial Magic (court mage). Rising Phoenix and the Diviner formation were great, too. I don't think any of the really tanky formations are worth it, but YMMV
Gridning before the grind?! My man... bold
lmao did i grind before the first metal slime part? i try to only target one or two times in DQ games to grind, if i do it at all
Hello any chance you get the Saga vid Part 2 out ? 🙈i love Part 1 and 3
As someone who only played the original gameboy trilogy (and didn't even finish 2 & 3), I've always had the impression that the series peaked with the Romancing Saga trilogy (and remakes), was still good for the Saga Frontier series, and then fell off a cliff.
Where is part 2?
thrice shirt, is a like
quick tip for romancing saga minstrel song remaster (on pc): the game only offers all language option between japanese and english, but fortunately, the audio files are all compiled in a single file, so you can just go to the game folder and swap the audio file names, that way you can get english text with japanese voices. im not like a language purist, but is undeniable in this specific case the japanese voices are objectively done way better than the english dub, as someone who played the original ps2 version for hundreds of hours and therefore only had the option of english dub back then... believe me, its worth it
this is really good info, thanks! I haven't played a whole lot of the PC ports myself, so good to know.
