Heat Heavy Rain Expansion Mini Review
Nice playthrough - very relaxing way to pass some time. I noticed you didn't add to 2 point to terrains over 7. Page 9 of the rulebook 'Solo game: 2 point bonus for each habitat type with a group size of 7 or more'. I'm sure you would have changed your strategy near the end to gain the bonus on at least 2 of your terrains so the final score would have been higher.
@@DonnyRam1961 any time u need asmr u know where to come. Hahaha. Ah yes. I missed it! Darn.
Hi there. Thanks for the playthrough & congratulations! I'm a huge fan of this game, originally printing out the PnP version a long time ago, then actually buying the game from Sideroom Games more recently and suffering the postages cost (but felt it was worth it) There are so many ways to manipulate your play: the Jack of Flowers being the most powerful allowing you to dump all Trump cards at once - great for those lower numbers, Jack of Claws (draw back up to 8 cards) is great for going for those high numbers or emptying a suit. Jack of Leaves (Change ruler) & Jack of Eyes (draw 2, discard 2) can be used to empty a suit or maybe gain a Trump. Once you've mastered the Jacks, next is learning to manipulate the Queens, Kings, Barons, Princes & Ladies! Such a clever game, I've lost count of the amount of times I've thought 'as long as the 1 of (whatever) doesn't come out, I'm ok' - BOOM! ... there it is - the 1 of (whatever) !!! I'm not particularly good at the game, I just love the experience of playing it, mostly on the starter settings, occassionally trying with a mixture of allies which normally means making it harder. I enjoy playing alot of games Solo - Solo specific games & Solo versions of multiplayer games. I prefer the lighter end of the scale with a relatively short play time. Hopefully you'll feature some of them on your channel in the future. Thanks again.
@@DonnyRam1961 Thanks for the message. I always like recommendations and I like to play shorter games on the channel too. I might even have some u play so let me know and I’ll be sure to play some! Thank you for ur support! Matt
@@Theplaysthet Solo Specific: Desolate, Iron Helm, Tin Helm & Tin Realm - all PnP created Jason Glover games. All pretty short (sometimes very short!) games. Skulls of Sedlec (Monstrance Solo deck) is one of the Button Shy games I enjoy. Another small Solo only game you may enjoy could be The Crows of Coppershell Bay. It's a new game, just released by a UK based designer Paul Stapleton at Bedsit Games and pretty cheap for what it is. He has also designed the bigger game Paupers Ladder that gets quite a bit of acclaim and this small tin box game is 'of the same universe' I've played a few games and really enjoyed it, though yet to win! Other games I play Solo - either with included Solo rules or using fan made solo modes are: 7 Wonders Duel, Targi, Knarr, Herbaceous, Kohaku, Cascadia, Shifting Stones, Sky Team & Trekking Through History. All pretty lightweight and possibly not to your taste.
@ I am not a huge player of fan made solos. Ive played Targi 2 player and seven wonders. I love Targi actually. Hmmm
@ I also have often looked at the tin helm game and skulls of sedlec. I have other button shy solo games! That crows of copper shell sounds interesting! Thanks so much for that great reply!
Recently purchased this game. I agree with you it strikes the balance between easy to learn and strategic depth
@@TradeIggyNow ah I’m glad you enjoyed it too. Definitely has gone under a lot of people’s radar but I think it’s a fine light/medium game!
The cubes could be amber, very natural
@@allanpanizzi9292 why amber tho? Make it make sense!
halls of hegra is superb. I just lost over and over. Maybe 20 games. Then i clicked on something and won my last three on the bounce. I wont tell and spoil it ....yet.
That’s already not a good sign. Definitely won’t be getting Hegra.
@@realdealastrology9 while I do understand, it’s a great game. If u don’t mind losing which tbf is very thematic for this siege game then it’s def worth it.
@@Theplaysthet if it’s solvable like jeremy implied, which hurts replayability, then I won’t be interested anymore.
@ I don’t think that’s true. But again understand your point. 😊
Just purchased legacy of yu will try soon. Mage knight oooh baby really good solo game
Hope you enjoy it! I am nearly thru my third playthrough of the whole game. At least 30 plays which is well worth the money!
You should have scored 5 points for the top left corner on the lowest level. You finally put the tile on top, but didn't give yourself 5 points. You also missed another 2 points for the completed square on the third level, bottom left (orange block on the top, light blue completed the square to add the tile on top, but you would have received 2 points for second).
Ah thank you! It’s good to know I got more points! thanks for watching and paying such close attention!
Been wanting to watch you play some games but I haven't had the time or energy so I am watching it in portions. Love how calming watching your playthrougs feel like. Like being with your friend in a room doing nothing or different thing together.
@@KevinHernandez03 ahhhh thanks Kevin! I’m glad that’s how they feel. Please enjoy! I know those feelings too. Sometimes it’s hard to get myself motivated to play on a livestream but I always end up glad I did! I’ll will happily be ur ‘friend in the room’. 💜
Great video, thank you
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
My go-to game when I’m having trouble deciding which solo game I want to play.
Nice! What’s ur favourite to solo atm?
47:21 When you used your copy here, didn't you already have 8 without drawing any other cards? 1+2+1+(2x2)
@@samirjafri191 it’s copy the power not the number. I may not be understanding what u mean tho. Hahah.
@Theplaysthet That is what I meant. Thanks for clarifying.
Ah great! I miss things a lot so was really trying to see if I’d mucked up! Thanks for watching
My most played solo games, are bit older but still so much fun: Resist! and Maquis. But Legacy of Yu is high on my list to try out. Unfortunatly it's somehow hard to get.
I saw it in my local board game shop the other day. But perhaps ur in a different country to me! I have witchcraft and will be playing it this month for Halloween. I’d love to try maquis tho.
It’s hard to find board game reviewers with similar thoughts to mine. Looking forward to your Top 10 solo games of all time.
Ah I’m glad we agree. Ts always helpful isn’t it cause u feel like recommendations from like minded board gamers have more chance of working with u! I need to do more top 10/5 lists. Any other suggestions send them my way! Thank you!
Great video, thank you . I love this game. I have all the repackaged sets
Thanks. I’m coming get back to playing this on a livestream soon!
Robinson Crusoe takes me 5 minutes to setup. I have all the tokens in a plastic case with individual compartments.
I think for me after coming back to it after a break it would take me longer than that. I have to say tho it’s one of those games I feel like I should LOVE. So yeah. I might play it again before I sell it.
Agree with Legacy of Yu! What a unique game and with beautiful art. Nothing out there like it and it is not an overly complex game. Great rulebook. Thx for your list!
Thank you! Yeah. It’s just soooo easy to set up and put away and has a nice medium weight of complexity. It hits all the spots for me!
I loved your video, thanks for sharing! As someone who has reduced their collection from 120+ games to 20ish in order to keep a tight set of beloved games (which I actually remember the rules for every time I bring them to the table!) rather than a long list of unplayed ones, I really enjoy these culling videos.
Thank you! I’ve been a board gamer for about 4 years now and I’m still learning! So glad u like these vids. There will always be more cause… I’ll always want to try new games! But hopefully more selective as time goes on.
Excellent list! First, I'm finding out about your channel through it, which is a good enough reason to like (and sub). I'm really glad I did! What's more, I can relate to your experience with those games. Despite having culled it, Halls of Hegra remains on my top 5 for this year too, as I found it to be highly engaging, and well-designed. My only gripe was a limited capacity at replayability, and the importance of the first two bag draws... if you "fail" any of these, the game can turn out to be a very short one... in your disfavour. I also relate to your experience with Final Girl, except I haven't bought back the game, even though I felt I hadn't given the game a fair chance, in a way. Your opinion defintitely compels me to try it again some day. As far as Sentinels go, I love the fact it provides a self-contained experience unlike Marvel Champions. MC did push my old M:tG deck constructor buttons though, and that remains the main reason I love the game, alongside its ease to be played solo. I'm not a big fan of art though, and it is the same reason that stopped me from buying Tales of the Dragon Inn too. It seems a shame because the games look to be so good.
I can completely understand you might not want to get ‘tales’ if u can’t deal with the cartoony art. Sometimes those things really matter. For me tho it’s the most accessible dungeon crawler I have played and I don’t think it’s going anywhere 11 scenarios in!
@@Theplaysthet That's a really good sign, and it might make me reconsider my stance on the matter.
@@lithracSolo May I also say. Thanks for the sub!
Great review! I resisted buying Harmonies for a long while, waiting for the hype to slowly die out. I must admit the game is rather decent at what it does, shining at two players in a way Cascadia doesn't do. Yet in solo I found the game to fall a bit short. One thing I liked about playing Cascadia solo were the challenges (reach X points with Y coming from your foxes, and so on) which really drew me to bring the game over and over to the table for a great cozy experience. I also found Harmonies's art, while beautiful, to be less engaging than Cascadia's. As you pointed out, it's more abstract, and much less immersive to me. In the end, I decided to keep Cascadia only, but I do reckon Harmonies's qualities.
For me it became a total miss and I sold it on. All my usual gamers I played it with thought it was average. It’s funny cause I know it’s got a lot of love with other reviewers. It’s all good. It just never felt as much fun as Cascadia in all the playthroughs I did, solo or multi. Cascadia is also still in my collection!
Thank you for this. You may want to correct the spelling mistake in the title ‘Unaunted’ to make sure it can be found in a search.
Ahhhhh Philip. Thank you! I appreciate that. When ur just a one person game channel these things can be missed.
Good selection of games and more importantly a good discussion of why each one appeal to you. Ease of setup is actually a big plus sometimes. I wasn't really planning to get Tales of Yu until your description. Also the Red Dragon Inn sounds like a blast
Thank you! I have a good feeling playthroughs of legacy of yu too! So please go watch if u need more convincing! Red dragon inn is great. Go be get a playthrough of that very soon! Thanks again!
Nice video. New subs here! I started solo gaming with Expeditions (sequel to Scythe) and got hooked ever since. It’s got a great Automa. I highly recommend it!
Ahhhh thanks for the sub! I haven’t played expeditions and it’s so interesting to see that’s how u got into solo gaming. Mine was really jaws of the lion. And I remember unboxing it and being sooooo excited! I play lots and lots of solo games so I hope u enjoy all that is to come!
Nice list! I'm having trouble getting into Jaws of the Lion solo and I'm very curious about Tales from the red dragon inn as an easier to handle dungeon crawler. Greets from Holland.
Thank you! Yeah, Red Dragon inn is def lighter. It’s still a big campaign and lots of card and characters but it just is a kinder game. And more fun/cartoony. It doesn’t take itself too seriously!
@@Theplaysthet Sounds great!
I could do a playthrough at some point!
@@Theplaysthet Im in!😁
Nice List, great video.
Thank you!
btw nice haircut!
Thank you Gabriel!
I LOOOOOOVE THIS GAME OMG
Meeeeee Toooooooooo!
Sorry that it’s sooo blown out for the first part of this video. No idea why but I’ll try and make sure it doesn’t happen again. Still getting balances right for my livestreams! Thanks for sticking with me and supporting my channel!
Tales of red dragon inn is a blast! Grab, leap and push make the encounters feel very dynamic
Totally agree!!! I am about half way through the campaign!
Love this game. I wanted to point out that when you have the choice to get clay, wood or cowrie shell pick clay or wood. You can trade them in for THREE cowrie shells so they are the better option in that one spot. I am on my second campaign through.
Yeah that makes total sense!!! Thanks for watching!
Will you do a playthrough? :)
Possibly yeah it's just a big game to film!!
Gosh, that's one of the best unboxings of thunder road vendetta and Nunatak I think I've ever seen! Especially the person doing the close up pop outs, they were my favourite 😎😂 But honestly we had a great time with you Matt, it was so much fun and already can't wait for next year! Let's get it booked! I might've got a bit too many games this time around ... so lets see if we can beat that number next year 🥳😂
Hahahahah. I’m down for it 100% let’s get it booked! U must need more games already right? 😊😉
It's my surprise favorite for 2024 so far.
That’s awesome. Do u ever play it solo?
@@Theplaysthet I absolutely adore Harmonies solo. The BYOS variant that comes in the box is enough for me, but if you want something greater, there are probably half a dozen varieties available on BGG.
@@improg There always are hehehe.
However, as far as ‘small box game’ i’m eagerly awaiting my arrival of buttons and bugs. I’m also a lover of the boss monster series!
I saw lots of buttons and bugs boxes at U.K. games expo today! Looked fun! Hope u get urs soon.
Algorithm
I agree. 😊
It's strange to hear your comments about Earth. I am also easily overwhelmed by many board games, but Earth is my absolute favourite of last year. And I play it 90% solo. I love the decision making in it 😊 Shame you didn't get on with it.
Thanks for your comment! Yeah I think for me there were just too many choices to make somehow. We are all different tho aren’t we and it just didn’t click with me. I’m so glad u love it tho!
One deck dungeon today
Yes! I have played that many times. Good choice!
Great list! I'm enamored with Sentinels of the Multiverse DE. It's become one of my favorites and I just bought it pretty recently. And I'm also waiting for Legacy of Yu to arrive at home after trading it in a math trade, so knowing that you also loved it really gets me even more excited!
Thank you! Yeah I do like Sentinels a lot! Hope you enjoy legacy of Yu. I have played it so many times, and I just think it is a great balance of ease of set up and great gameplay!
Seeker in the Forest of Wyr
Don’t know this one! Will have to check it out.
I was actually expecting a review of The Thing...
Great list. Been wanting Tales from the Red Dragon Inn. Don't know much about Halls of Hegra, I'll have to check that out.
If you like dungeon crawlers I really think you will like Tales! It's such a lovely system, and so easy to manage. I usually play with three characters although u can play with just one and a companion who does simpler actions. Thanks for your comment!
Nice playthrough. I am waiting for the game to come in stock to buy it, so excited 😆
It seemed to be everywhere in the uk a couple of weeks ago, but I think it’s been very popular!
Nice unboxing. Commenting for the all mighty algorithm. Also don't know if it was intentional or a mistake but the video is only up to 360p or something low like that. Great video anyways
Thank you! Yes this was a few weeks ago when I was clicking the wrong option when uploading from Final Cut Pro! All sorted now. Thank you for the help with the algorithm!!
I just watched your harmonies video and am checking out your other stuff and I decided to sub
Thank you Kevin. Much appreciated!
O wow I was watching the video as I was making food and I though it was from a large channel. I went to comment that I personally adore the art style and I actually like the animals are handled, when I noticed that the channel only has 38 subs at the time of me watching. I'll be keeping an eye on the channel and if I like what I see I'll be subbing. I did like the production on the video too btw. Here is to hoping for large growth for your channel 😁😁
Thank you. Yeah art is always a personal opinion and like I say it doesn’t ruin the game for me at all. Thank you again. That’s very kind I’m trying to make decent quality vids!
Nicely explained x
Thank you!
