Marilyn Manson worked with him on this song. The Gold chain around his neck represents the chains slaves wore. At the end of the video he says "God" and hangs his arms out like Jesus on the cross. The song represents how black people are still slaves to the system, just the bondages and masters have changed.

Pink Floyd is a bad comparison because Kanye is greater and occupies so many more spaces. Few artists have a better discography and were able to stay at such a high level so consistently. Reinventing himself with every project. He is the perfect crossroads of critical acclaim and commercial success. Rivaling Michael Jackson in that department.

The problem with the statement that Kanye is this generations Pink Floyd is that Kanye is himself. He is no next generation or anything,he is Kanye. He is special and so musically gifted that I doubt there will ever be 'another' Kanye.

Nope. Never. This man is in his own league. The only person you can compare to kanye is kanye himself but even that is difficult because his discography has SUCH a wide variety. Truly, in my opinion, the greatest artist of this generation. No one has made waves like him

As for the topical subject about racism in the midwest - I think it depends on where in the midwest. I am in Minnesota, and Minnesota is a notoriously progressive/liberal/left leaning state. Lots of people of different shades and cultures here, and mixed race couples aren't a very taboo subject - I see it a lot among friends and just out in the public. I live in Hopkins, which is about 15 minutes from downtown. Last year was a mess. I could smell and see the fires coming from downtown, absolute insanity. Protesting is one thing, but what happened was a lot of uncontrolled chaos. Cars getting vandalized left and right, businesses destroyed, etc. Luckily this stuff didn't really occur in Hopkins, where I am. Knew lots of folks who were worried about it though. Know lots of friends and family who lost lots of friends family debating over this, I myself had a few friends that hopped on the train and streamed themselves robbing a bunch of businesses downtown. Needless to say, they aren't my friend anymore

the real song is 9 minutes and he does a 4 minutes solo that is insane smh but id relate him more to The Beatles or Bowie than Pink Floyd. He's definitely more of an album artist so hearing just one song is like almost outta context, the songs straight forward but has a lot of layers when everything comes together. I think the similarities people make when saying Pink Floyd comes from his album making which calls back the detail put in from the 70s artists. Specifically My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, since it has long songs, follows a concept, and samples 70s prog rock like King Crimson, and of course aesthetically the album cover has the same format to Wish You Were Here. He mixes high art and low art really well as The Beatles did with Sgt Peppers proving hip hop can be as respectable art form than anything and the conceptual depth where the story is told through more than just words. Mbdtf is definitely an album worth checking out as well as To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar, and Blonde by Frank Ocean... those are the undisputed masterpieces of this generation.

I was looking at this comment section and just found it interesting how a lot of people here don’t understand that music is something that does and always will change with time and build on its predecessors. I personally couldn’t name a single song from pink floyd from my head while I know the entire discography of Kanye. This doesn’t mean that pink floyd makes worse music than kanye. It just means rhat I grew up in a different time. I think people just compare them because they are about as big as artists and they had the same level of influence. (Just because you don’t like or know an artist doesn’t mean that he isn’ influential. Kanye really changed the entire genre of hip hop) Finally I think it’s just silly how everyone is comparing the albums sales like anybody buys albums anymore. Kanye got big while streaming services and youtube where getting big and i’m sure he is getting way more streams on that. At the end lets all just listen to the music we like ourselves because I think that good music is something way to beautiful to be arguing about all the time.
