J'ai loupé ça??? Putain j'y étais quand Phil Read était venu avec sa team TZ y à 20 ans et j'ai loupé la RC174. La 166 y était?
LOL That was a bit "pedestrian" to say the least
“Pedestrian’… yes. Easy for an armchair critic to say. A few reasons for that. It was the very first time I had ever ridden the bike (now I have ridden it a lot more, including a full lap of the Isle of Man TT mountain course), there was a problem with the clutch dragging badly and the engine was overheating because of a fundamental oil circulation problem (actually the crankshaft failed the next time I ran the engine)… plus, of course I am not a racer but had been asked by the organisers to do a few parade laps.

Ron, if you come to Donington Park Classic in August 2014 you will hear this bike again and I will definitely be taking it to the red-line (17,500) down the main straight... same as last year. I was very grateful to Toon for posting this vid. It was the first time I had ever ridden the bike and there ere a few teething problems in Chimay.
I was at the TT in 1966 and saw and heard Mike Hailwood & Ralph Bryans ride 250s, we sat on the banking at Bradden and we could hear them all the way up through Union Mills towards Crosby! of course then they were ridden very hard, I have seen different riders out on them but never heard one since ridden hard! you have to hear one on full revs to appreciate them.
Hey Ron, thanks for sharing your experience. One day I'll go to the classic TT at the Isle of man, that's for shure. To see those legendary machines shredding on the greatest course on this planet. If you have the opportunity to come to the Chimay Bikers Classics in Belgium, then you should take it. The people, the atmosphere, the bikes and the track. It just is a perfect event.
I wish I could have been there :-)
Hi Toon, Yes, the problem was easily adjusted. It was just that the bike had been hardly used since it was built and the clutch just settled down a bit. It was getting very hard to change gear and I didn't want to risk damaging it. The bike is an exact re-creation authorised and initiated by the Honda museum. There are 7 in existence and mine is number 7. Glad you enjoyed it. I did too, but wasn't it a HOT day! :-)
This is the only video I have from your bike on saturday. Did you manage to fix the clutch problem ? Is that an original honda factory engine or did you build it yourself ? Very great bike. I like most of Honda's old rc motorcycles but I don't get often the chance to hear and see one driving down a track. So this was a great experience.
Very nice!! Thank you!
Hi Toon, thanks for putting up this video of me riding the Honda. Sorry I could not do more laps on the Saturday when you took this video, but as you can probably hear, I was having problems with the clutch (koppeling/embrayage?) so had to stop after 2 laps. I know the programme stated it was 250cc but actually it is 297cc. If you have any more video I would like to see! Thanks!
