What gorgeous boats with fajtastic crews
The boat had a massive advantage over it's rivals, no surprise there
In 1989 I was at the start of the race, right next to Steinlager, an amazing experience that remains with me
Great to see a real yacht.
Remarkable race. Remarkable man. RIP
I was out sailing on the Hauraki Gulf a couple of weeks ago, and Steinlager 2 came past our little yacht, as graceful and imposing as ever. Great to see.
These Dinos have been the monsters of the Sea. I always loved the ketch rigged concept of these Whitbread racers. :-)
Rich boys and their lovely toys.
Piss off. Go watch curling.
yes I was living out at Waimauku, felt saw heard the wind shift Blake was a snob, just ignored the builders of Lion, when he wandered into the shed he had backing from Tom and his crew liked him, but there was another side he died of stupidity but yes he put us on the map for sure
This is probably the most ignorant and offensive comment I've ever heard. Get lost.
@@Badmansband I agree. Ignorant. What will his legacy be?
In Brazil? Fighting for a nobble cause 🤔
Mr. Peter Blake was quite an inspiration for many an aspiring sailor, such a loss, so sad!
I’ve always felt bad for F&P. It is almost impossible to sail so well and lose every leg.
holy crap, that was close!
NICE ONE.
Peter Blake was one of the best sailors I have ever seen. Look what he did. He was my hero. Still miss him today.
All these guys of that era had been a great inspiration. Peter, Pierre Fehlman (French sailor) ... they all had been an inspiration for me. I started in 1992/1993 my own Whitebread campaign, got the sponsor for a 2 boat campaign, unluckily the whitebread hq didn't follow the sponsor's needs for media coverage in the Polish market, so we lost the deal ;-( the target was to participate in the whitbread 1996-1997 ... time flies by.
Classic.
Remember those days fondly.
Yep good times
Just made me miss my invitation more then you will ever know ...Jesus I want spring 😩 😫
Beautiful, beautiful boat! What a pity that Steinlager 1 - the trimaran - ran aground on a reef off Australia and was badly damaged and abandoned.
They ran aground due to inexperience if they knew what they were doing they would have spliced the main brace and weigh anchor to make sure it was heavy enough
Is there some sort of allergy towards using the word “women” in NZ? I’ve heard both men and women sailors predominantly use the word females. Perhaps it is cultural, but frankly it seems odd.
I'm looking forward to the companion vid. "Males in Sailing Q&A"
Great presentation Jesse - thanks
Wow. Awesome. Can't wait to try. Got in irons three times in tonight's races
Nice idea about the environmental charity but how does that work when you are sponsored for a massively polluting airline that belongs to an oil sheik. Seems somewhat hypocritical!!! Hmmm now that would have been a tough question
Kia kaha Team New Zealand.
Guys come on! My old GoPro that I use can record in 1080. I can edit and upload everything on my old iPad. Get with it!
PR BS (courtesy of Yachting Auckland)
Ha! You should demo that in a Hobie 16. Easy to get out of irons in a little nimble monohull like that, never mind how you got in irons in the first place. Much more problematic in a cat, especially one with no daggerboards!
Nice the pehutdecava (hopefully write right) flowering
Pohutakawa
Nice Video 👍 Congratulation for 🥇
[Los Angeles Times] Reliable data on radiation risks is difficult to obtain, said Jonathan Links, a public health professor at Johns Hopkins University. And, with cosmic rays and other sources emitting natural or “background” ionizing radiation, it can be difficult to pinpoint whether an acceptable threshold for additional, low-level exposure exists at all. In terms of athletes and coaches visiting the impacted prefectures for a week or two during the Olympics, Links said the cancer risk is proportional, growing incrementally each day. The Japanese government has raised what it considers to be the acceptable exposure from 1 millisievert to 20 millisieverts per year. Along with this adjustment, officials have declared much of the region suitable for habitation, lifting evacuation orders in numerous municipalities. Housing subsidies that allowed evacuees to live elsewhere have been discontinued. www.latimes.com/sports/olympics/story/2019-08-12/tokyo-olympics-2020-fukushima-nuclear-disaster
Hydrofoiling is so much. Go for it guys, good luck at the Olympics. I'm raising money for the Fire Fighters charity in UK by doing Hydrofoil challenges
couldn't quite get it into words for my teaching session till now thanks
I sail at manly sailing club
saw him in yhe rio olympics win interview. yummy.
The girl in the turquoise boat with the blue/white had, black sunglasses and a yellow hair tie is my sister
Thank you soooo much!
Hello Alex from your old hometown, Kerikeri. We will all be watching and wishing every success for you and Molly. Lesley and Ray Haslar
These two are awesome. Thoroughly nice people and well deserved.
Really? You are going to call me an idiot online like the big internet warrior you are...and still be wrong...A yacht is a boat with berthing quarters. I see little dinghies. Have you ever been on any sort of boat before? After skimming through I have seen a couple shots of some racing boats for America's Cup type stuff but mostly this video shows little dingies. Keep talking shit online you big tough internet warrior.
you sir are an absolute idiot if you dont think there were yachts in that video
I didn't see Yachts...
