Just messing around at Stonebriar with the GoPro to see the camera's resolution. I think a body mounted GoPro is the next test.

    Same issue. I’m having a head time removing the original flywheel. Seems seized on the shaft. Any suggestions?

      Hmm, I'm thinking the metal from the integrated key has lodged itself along the shaft. I'd suggest putting a few drops of Deep Creep (or some other penetrating fluid) and let it sit for a day. Then, gently, ever so gently, apply some pressure from the inside to encourage it off. Good luck, let me know if you are successful.

      Thanks Robert, I got it off! Pb blaster plus a solid tap with my channel locks. There was some mild surface rust on the shaft the flywheel sits on.

      @@kellycarpenter2427 That is AWESOME! I'm glad you got it off and are on your way to getting it repaired. 3 years later and I still have this blower in use, so I'm glad this video has helped some people. This problem has probably sent many to the junk pile when it could have been fixed. Good luck with the rest of the repair! Robert

    Yet I m another person you helped. Mine I thought was old and needed replaced since it died like everyone elses. Was on Home Depot site looking at new ones, and reading reviews someone complained about the flywheel pin breaking!! So I looked up the model to see if I can still get parts since this one is pretty old.. And see I can get it, so I jump on a search to replace and you video popped up and Im sure you found my problem!! So I still have to take it apart, and am sure Ill see the issue that you explained!! Thanks!!

    Mine went from working one day to not and made the strangest rattle sometimes when I’d pull the rope. I love this blower and I’m 99 percent sure this is the problem. I did have a coil die some time back but it’s not that, because at some point after this problem I guess the flywheel was in the right position and actually ran fine for a little.

    Hows that flywheel holding up? I actually grinded it out and reused the same flywheel. I fashioned a key out of some shaved and grinded woodruff keys (from Harbor Freight)

    This video helped incredibly. I had fuel, air, and spark but not a hint of starting. After watching this video and relating to his burning desire to figure it out, I started the quick tare down to get to the flywheel. The key was sheared as described. I ordered the part and when it came in the assembly was quick and easy. After getting it all together it started easily on the 1st pull and pretty much the 1st pull every time since. I can't imagine how many of these end up in the landfill because of this very issue. Thanks for posting this video, extremely helpful and even a little fun!

    In the hopes that this may help in the future, here’s what I always keep thinking of when I’m diagnosing. FACTS - Fuel, Air, Compression, Timing, Spark!!! Easy to remember and covers all the basics. Bear in mind that Air means air in as well as out (exhaust).

    • @robertirving6326

      Yes! I was getting spark, so I knew the ignition coil was functioning. The only issue, I was getting spark at the bottom of the cycle, not the top. That's what drove me nuts trying to figure out the problem, not until I looked at the flywheel orientation did I have my "ah ha" moment. And, this blower is still running like a champ today! I'm glad the video helped.

    Unfortunately I have the sam issue, and as a start I put the original flywheel back in on the blower in the correct position, started right up, so what I was looking for is someone who repaired the original flywheel, this situation has been caused by the manufacture trying to save manufacturing costs at our expense, when I looked they wanted 40+$ for a new one.

    If the woodruf key as sheered off how it was possible to crank the engine???

    • @robertirving6326
      @robertirving6326 2 роки тому

      There is no separate key, the equivalent shape of a key is cut into the metal of the flywheel. The metal is soft, so it gets mangled and out of alignment. As far as cranking, there was enough metal jammed around the crank that it would grip and spin. But it is a scraped part, no saving it. I still use it today!

    Hi Robert, Thanks for posting this video, it was exactly the information I needed to fix my PB-251. When it stopped working I took it to the local small engine repair shop and they told me it was most likely a sheared flywheel keyway, and it was a really complicated repair, they would have to take the whole engine apart, blah blah what would a woman know of these things... and probably not worth the expense to fix and I should just leave the blower there and they'd dispose of it. But.... I didn't buy their explanation, so I returned home with my blower and proceeded to search the web for repair information, and then I found your video! I ordered the replacement part from Amazon, and following your video, it was a super easy disassembly (literally only 7 screws to remove) and re-assembly with the new part (the flywheel keyway was indeed sheared). $73 later I have a perfectly working blower, thanks to your helpful video!

    Robert, is it necessary to replace the complete flywheel, or can JUST the key be replaced? I've replaced the carb, fuel lines, and filter, and have compression. This has to be my problem!

    Thank you . I came across your video last.week. My 251 would not start and everything checked out good. Then after seeing your video I checked my fly wheel and it was bad. So I ordered a new one after I ordered a coil. So I got my flywheel the other day I put it in put it back together without putting a new coil in. Got the machine back going and it started. So now I have an extra coil but you never know when those go bad. Thank you so much. And I had the whole thing taken apart. And I got it back together okay. Thanks. And that's after not working for 2 years.

    any idea why the key sheared off?

    • @robertirving6326
      @robertirving6326 3 роки тому

      There was not a separate physical key, it was the way the metal plates were cut on the flywheel/ignition to include the shape of a key to slide onto the shaft. The metal just deformed and allowed the flywheel to spin around the shaft about 180 degrees. Tough diagnosis, but that blower is still running like a champ today. I'm guessing a stick got caught in it somewhere, causing it to stop abruptly. It was a throw out from someone else, I figured I could adopt it.
