    Thanks for your presentation! Just got this tent a few days ago -- top is listed as 1.1 oz silnylon with a 3000mm hydrostatic head rating, the floor is 40D nylon at 4000 mm. Clearly not a serious mountaineering tent, but suitable for many ordinary camping environments. With so much ventilation built in, it's hard to see major condensation issues unless the front 'fly' is buttoned down in extreme cold/wet weather. At 35.3 oz, it's a decent one man tent for an old cowboy camper who needs less security than bug and shower protection from his shelter. And it's bargain priced! (BTW, one online reviewer did have it set up in the rain without seam leaks and such, but did have wind driven rain come in through the generously sized front screen door -- so that could be addressed by different measures depending on conditions, I suppose.)

    When getting paid by the tent company to do a product review for a tent, I guess you cant just outright say "this tent leaks." So you have to be subtle, and suggest some nice waterproofing spray for your boots and stuff.

    I think the camo clothes have the same problem as wearing a camo backpack. If anyone does come near you once you put on the camo, they are going to ask themselves, "what's going on?" Dark or muted color clothing would be better. And speaking of dark, that is the best tip about stealth camping that you did not talk about. Wait until dark to move to your camp spot. Set up quietly. Maintain noise and light discipline. And pack up at first light.

    Lets compare this Dan Durston 1 man tent. ($234.00) Which cost more - 1) Has 2 walls so almost no condensation. 2) large vestibules to store gear 3) Comes treated out of the box 4) Can buy poles and groundsheet 5) Weighs the same I run a 2 man Durston tent so I can take my German Shepard with me. Now it does cost more but offers a lot more for how its made. I can see people buying this to save money but Dan Durston still holds the trophy for best lightweight tent for me. I do keep comparing though with new products as they are released. Good review.

    • @AlpineWarrior550
      @AlpineWarrior550 18 днів тому

      Once again, thank you for your input…. Question, have you tried any of the lightweight dyneema tents….? I think GGG makes them and several other companies…..

    • @SurvivalSavvvy
      @SurvivalSavvvy 18 днів тому

      @@AlpineWarrior550 Yes and tarps. Dyneema is also known as cubin fiber. When you get into super ultra light and if your not careful it breaks very easy. The biggest to watch with Dyneema is how thick it is. The thinner the lighter but the higher chance of tearing. dyneema does not breath so for a tent if single wall the condensation is heavy. Now some places will design it where the roof has a space at the bottom to run on the ground. But using this in a real-world situation and your sleeping bag touches it and is down can be life-threatening in winter. Dyneema as a tarp is awesome. hammock gear has one with doors I use for my hammock when I use it. The best tent I have ever used and I have used a lot of them is Dan durstons X-Mid 2 Solid because it has the best coverage for rain storms. I have had it in down pours for 2 hours non stop and it never leaked. 1 time I had condensation and that is when I had a cloud so thick come in when I stepped outside my dog and my hair were socking wet in 30 secs never seen anything like that. Search my channel for Collection of tents I own I think it will come up. Now the best family tent for car camping ALPS Mountaineering Explorer is the 4 and 6 man. I own them both and did heavy reviews on them. The biggest thing with a tent is a huge rain fly is a must and it needs to come to the ground. If it has a tiny space the rain will hit the ground and bounce back thru your screen. When run a tent in nice weather you never have a clue if it any good. Now that cool looking tent that all camo 1 man looks so so cool hahahahaha I got sucked in. Heavy like 10lbs and you will see how the fly sits a bit ovver the ground. The rain bounces right in. So to use Dyneema or not? If I was hiking the Appalachian trail from one end to the other and weight matters for everything I would take a Dyneema tent. If I am going for a week and just enjoying myself Dan Dustom 2 man tent. I do own 2 of these. If I am taking the family out the ALPS Mountaineering Explorer 6 man. Dan has ALPS Mountaineering Explorer tents too. Dan has Dyneema too. To have 1lbs compared 2lbs and the price is it worth it? I do not think so. A person has to decide what is important to them. To go all ultra light is dangerous if you do not have the experience. You will find people with 10lbs weight packs. Now I do not go ultra light I like my comfort and enjoying myself. I run a KUIU pack that's like 5lbs but it fits me so good I love it so much. I love the dan dureston for the room and how durable it is. Now my newest purchase is from western mountaineer the Sequoia GWS with 4 ounces of over stuff. This sleeping bag will weigh 4lbs. It also cost $1250.00 its the best in the world. Arrives wed. I hate checking the weather alol the time I run 2 1 pound quilts right now. I get cold spots in the middle of the night. Now in tn we have great winters BUT we do get times of -6 for 4 days then we go back up. So I wanted a sleeping bag that is very versatile and the Sequoia GWS meets that. when I comes in I will explain more about it. Now I also run a 3 pound pot set. search my channel for "The Best Stainless Steel Folding Skillet and Lid" I explain why I run this. So I am from from ultra but I do have the equipment if I want to go that way. My pack runs 35lbs and that's a super chair in it. LOL But I take real food in winter and i sit comfortable and I am going to be warm no matter what. So I am pretty much ready I have been updating alot of it. Now want to see something cool search my channel for this. "Silky Professional Gomboy Case" Now I run affordable battle belt with a drop down on the right for my firearm and another drop down on the left for my knife and silky saw. Its PERFECT. See it has to be a drop down so my backpack belt does not hit anything and attaches nicely. I run my water bottles on the hip belt of my pack. So literally I am spreading the weight around my body. Anything on a belt or pack belt on your hips you never notice the weight at all. Now I do have a KIUI binoclear chest rig I wear in deer season where I take my Mathews combo bow with me. I usually get 2 each year. I am always upgrading and switching out all the time. I like to have my back at 35lbs to 40lbs tops. Thats without food and water. because that changes all the time. Now ideally be nice to have it at 30lbs which I can do but that that would mean less medical supplies for example. I do not hike on paths I go place no else goes so if I go down I will have no help at all. I carry medical for me and my dog so I think thats 2lbs. hahahaha Not bad for a 60 year old man. Short answer if you hikes for month then go pick up cuber fiber if not you do not need it
