Okawa City in Fukuoka Prefecture has been a center of woodworking since the Muromachi period (1333-1573).
Maeda Furniture Manufacturing has been manufacturing wooden furniture and other products since 1968, and is currently using this traditional woodworking technique and state-of-the-art software and machinery to give shape to various ideas through woodworking.
Kumiko is a woodworking technique in which wood is assembled geometrically without using nails. Originally a flat surface, Kumiko has been expanded to a three-dimensional form, and with the help of the angle of view and the light, the three-dimensional Kumiko shows various shadows and overlapping expressions.

Why the cold working with the hammer at the 5:00 min mark?
It compacts the steel. Hot forging mostly moves the metal, while cold forging basically squeezes it so it becomes tougher.
So good! You can clearly see how talented they are. I only hope that they are very expensive knives and that their talent is properly compensated. Exquisite detail.
