Ep. 91 - This Podcast is a Gun w/ Graham Irvin
marianne had low self esteem because her family never loved her, connel wouldnʻt really commit to her. So she believes sheʻs worthless and thatʻs why she takes the abuse and itʻs sad. If connel would hit her she would prove herself right and take the plunge into the deep end. I also think part of her believes that he would also like doing it, sheʻs giving himself to him in that way. I think itʻs ultimately a test for connelʻs empathy and protectiveness and love toward her.
No. No it can’t. Get a job. Find Christ.
I'm the guy who asked the question and i have a job and found Christ I'm just going through it, and literature is helping
Henry miller @erotic writing he goes off
also eileen myles if you like women
"Ah yes, let me rub vaseline all over my camera lens before we record. I might even do it without shoes on! I am gay?"
Two vacuous dopes saying nothing.
>guest sneakily suggests that Drake might have won the beef >the host is thrown off with this take that runs against everything he knows >there’s now an atmosphere of doubt in the room >Kendrick’s stock takes a dive >guest regales host with examples of Drake’s lyrical genius >host is convinced >drake’s stock is rising >he buys into it >guest pivots the last second to wanting to be Kendrick >host is stumped >doesn’t know what to do >Drake plummets and Kendrick ascends >he’s stuck with the losing team >broke, defeated, helpless >guest shorted a rapper’s reputation within a minute fuckin jew
it’s a shame people disdain ‘astrology’ and the esoteric bc that’s what makes art actually deep. i’m re reading third reich now and even if bolaño wouldn’t admit it i can tell he’s mystical. the parallel but intersecting timelines and the persistence of history.
this is so dope
These are interesting men
stop taking death so literally
hell exists eternally u shouldn't fear hell u should fear sin but really you should only fear God
cool boys
matthew is cool
Camera lense has grease
Jewish joker
i dont think girlie really got the book...
I didn't know it was possible to misread a book so badly? I don't see how you can completely miss how the theme of class permeates the entire book, and acts on the characters. Connell is working class, and crippled by anxieties relating to his place in society: he knows that without the approval of his peers at school he has nothing. Marianne "getting hot" at university is really her moving into an environment where her upper-middle class status is valued and she is finally socially secure, while Connell is cut adrift in this elite institution dominated by people who, like Marianne, come from families who have attended for generations. "Revenge porn fantasy" is a baffling way to frame this book, to the point I'm almost wondering whether the American edition has been heavily edited or something?
Think about the person who is doing the misreading…the beauty of books! They solve nothing.
Said like 349 times too many
Stop saying like
Absolutely okay to have different opinions, but did we read the same book? ‘Fantasy-fulfillment porn’ is a phrase I WOULD NEVER think to describe that book? I actually thinks it’s defying and ridiculing cliches rather than being one. Idk, I guess this shows how varied people’s experiences with the book can be
Bizarre right? I don't really see how someone can read this book and that be the takeaway.
"she's like hermione ... it's like hermione-draco fanfic" this person works at the paris review lmao
I think why Sally Rooney books are well liked/ well received along with her point (which i really agree with) is that Rooney is deeply well read. Her books come from a place of good prose whereas her ‘contemporaries’ who write slush/ pulp books are HORRIBLE on the prose level. I think people react well to being cared for as a reader when they aren’t being fed slop!
One for the books boys
Yo this is SO GOOD. I never thought about turning this back on Dante (the poet), but maybe Dante the character. Because later in Paradiso I feel like he’s chastised for a ton of his actions in the inferno, pity among them, but maybe also this seeking of arcane knowledge? I mean ultimately the beatific vision is described as ineffable, so either Dante is cutting himself off from such knowledge or he felt it was REVEALED that his own search for knowledge (or glory, I don’t think it’s just gnostic) is in vain. It’s this sense of revelation that I think Dante might have been talking about in that letter you referenced, though I haven’t read it. I mean, fwiw, I think the Comedy is the best poem ever written - it does have a tinge of that divine inspo
she has mad boyish charm
good podcast
Hey buddy I have a question for you could you please put your feet 🦶🏻 up on your table
Hell yea
The thing about truth, is it always sounds like truth. This is truth. Well done for coming out with this.
Also a good one
Good one
Damn Sean, you're shredded. What's your workout regimen?
I gotta start reading this shit. Sounds lit
Hearing both of you intelligent writers chop it up ab The Basedgod is so dope. My top 3 tapes from him are (in no order) Ultimate Bitch, White Flame and Gods Father. Thugged Out Pissed Off and 05 Fuck Em are my honorable mentions, but love them all 🙏
sotce isn't disappointing the real ones
thank you!
I love this
Does she have a podcast? I love the way she talks she’s such a light
I think she did. Wetbrains or something.
If I wasn’t living in France, I would’ve done a podcast with you, for sure
I truly wonder who you are But I liked everything about this video And I told Sotce the same
lol this is so bad. why does this lad have sunglasses on?
Huge vibe here
This series is crazy 😂😂😂 take me on the situationship journey king
LOL SERIOUSLY
Woah this ep has a cinematic quality to it-the indie foreign film subtitles, the camera positioning and the no use of microphones. Feels more intimate. Me as an audience feels more voyeuristic. Less of an interview, more of a private conversation. The summer heat reducing you both to wear shorts, and the palpable tension that comes from seeing someone’s thighs. I do love Sean in shorts hehe. The type of vid that will have me asking “what are we?” 🙈
thank you for sharing
Newfound respect for the Lil B historiography. Soulja boy did kinda steal his swag when they made mixtape together, nice video 😂👍
Deleting comments, my guy? Not cool.
When y'all were talking about made up words, maybe a James Joyce, Finnegan's Wake angle?
I was on the fence about reading brat but I’m definitely buying a hard copy after this pod.
Four minutes of this bitch is too much, brother. Four hours? You must be a masochist!
