    How did you wire the low oil shut off? I'm not the best on wiring but i had a rzr 800 that ran low on oil and i destroyed the motor i would like to put it on my two bikes.

    • @artman265
      @artman265 3 місяці тому

      I ran a braided hose from the low pressure oil light switch that's under the engine on the passenger side close to the firewall, to a low oil pressure Murphy switch. I used the fused ignition (IGN 10A. Brn/black wire to the ECU) in series with the Murphy switch and had a momentary switch to bypass it to be able to start it. I tried the fuel pump but the engine would run for almost 3-4 mins before it stalled from lack of fuel pressure. So I chose the IGN fuse for an instant kill. www.wildcatforums.net/attachments/img_20150417_092215_658-jpg.31962/

    Wildcat Trail 700 clutch question to Dalton: Please help me understand, I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around this. Bigger weights engage clutch at lower RPM? It seems to me that more weight would require higher RPM to engage as it takes more energy to get the increased weight to move. Is it because more centrifugal force is needed to use lighter weight to force clutch to engage, even though they move sooner? I have stock wheels and it says use the second largest weight. I want the clutch to begin to engage at a lower RPM. Dalton technician reply: Well, ..you are wrong. Lol Heavier weights overcome the pressure of the spring easier and engage sooner. ..however....and as you will see in the instructions, it is the primary spring that is the principal control of engagement rpm...not the flyweights. The weights control the rate of shift of the belt going down the track(and thus the rpm during the main clutching phase) It is all there. Some of the pages that look boring are the most important. The kit engages slightly lower rpm than stock anyway.. however the most important aspects of the kit are much more than that. The kit has to be set as described in the instructions for each tires size (because of course, that is the test results) Thanks My reply to Dalton: Thank you for your immediate reply. I did replace my Wildcat original clutch parts with Dalton’s and used the recommend 3/4” weights. I may not have even needed the Dalton kit, but am not by any measure upset that I purchased and installed it. If you look at this video you will see the problem that I am certain was the major problem with my clutch: m.ua-cam.com/video/4pwM26rOico/v-deo.html I had to use a file to hack off a huge chunk a metal from each of these six glide surfaces in twelve steps, then use progressively finer sandpaper to polish the rails until I ended up with a 0.02” slide clearance. Previously, quite literally the clutch would not move without hammering it. No wonder it would not shift, and it lurched at high RPM when engaging into gear. I’m surprised it worked at all. I bought it used with 6 miles on it, and never liked the way it shifted. I was told by several people who should have known better it was normal, but I had a feeling otherwise, and it got progressively worse with use. So by buying your kit, it forced me to find the solution, additionally I benefited from the upgrades. Now my Wildcat drives much more like I expected it should. Now I move the shifter with ease and do not have to force it and worrying that I am going to break something. Additionally, now I give it a little gas and it moves a little bit, not revving the engine and the cat jumping quickly and with great force forward or reverse; with the need to cover and slam on the brakes before it crashed into something; and it got much worse when it warmed up. By the way, all I needed to do the upgrade was a bench vice, a 7/16” 15” threaded rod, a block of wood with a 1/2” hole in the center, a 1” x 3.5” x 1/4” piece of aluminum with a 1/2” an offset center hole, a 2” PVC pipe coupler, a washer or two, and a 7/16” nut (all things I had sitting around the house); plus a primary clutch puller (definitely recommended). Remove clutches. Clamp the rod into the vice, slip the wood over the rod (to cushion the delicate clutch parts), slip the clutch onto the rod, place the 2” PVC coupler on (fits perfectly over secondary bell - holding down collar), next the metal plate (offset hole allows easier viewing when reassembling primary), washer(s), and nut; good to go! Again, thank you for all of your help. I’m sure the kit added to the smoothness of the shifting, and it definitely is responsible for my identifying the problem.

I RTV'd them and screwed them together and then RTV'd and screwed them to the roof from the top of the roof down through into the PCV pod and ran my wires. Cheers and good luck, Art.

    On the bright side, if she's screaming, she's still alive. :) How good is the engine braking in Low range, 4WD? Or do you have to use the brakes most of the way down?

    • @artman265
      @artman265 7 років тому

      Lol ya, she has gotten a lot better after a few seasons of this terrain. As for the engine braking it did get noticeably better with the clutch kit for the bigger tires but you still have to keep the belt engaged because there is no 1 way bearing in the primary and the secondary helix is only cut one way so it will not drive the primary. I always drive in low 2WD and use 4WD when I need it and for the most part the engine braking it holds pretty good but it does take some practice to get over having to ride the throttle a bit to keep the clutch engaged and you do have feather the brakes as needed.

    • @artman265
      @artman265 7 років тому

      Hi John, I put on the only clutch kit for my tire size that was available at the time I bought the machine, was the EPI Mudder kit for 28"-29.5" tires and got a different color spring for the secondary so It would perform better at our altitude and the type of driving I do. I am running 30" Monster Mayhems 30x9x14f and 30x11x14r on Itp rims with a 4x3 offset (I think). I do believe there is a Dalton clutch kit that would be much better and you can adjust the weights in the primary to suit how and where you ride. I also put inline to my CVT snorkle a marine bilge fan to help keep the belt cool when its working hard in the deep mud turning the bigger knobby tires. I would like to get a different primary secondary to help get my wheel speed up faster but also be "geared" lower because the riding we do in the tight trails and mud I really don't think I need to be doing 40 Mph in low, a bit slower would be nice I think, but that stuff is slow coming. Cheers and thanks for watching.

Just got mine back from the shop cause it started on fire cause of the stock pipe restricting so much and header pipes always glowing red. Make sure the plugs boots are on properly as well (Ive heard that if they pop up a bit they cause a misfire and heat the pipe up too) . I havent had any heat issues yet....knock on wood. Cheers!

    For everyone that keeps commenting that the muffler is on the wrong side of the bracket probably dont understand that the bracket is a STAMPED PIECE that the metal is pushed through over 1/2 inch to hold the stock rubber grommet for the stock hanger, which means that to place the muffler bracket on the other side of the chassis bracket the WHOLE MUFFLER would have to move over 1/2 inch + forward to be on the other side of the bracket. You would have to remove the exhaust donut to make it fit that way unless you wanted to move the whole exhaust header forward as well. Then the header would be melting the firewall and it would be real loud with a 1/2 inch gap between the head and the header.

      This rally was at McLeans Creek and sponsored by the Calgary ATV riders. Its usually on May long weekend. Their webpage usually has their calendar for the season. The other one we go to is Sundre Fire Dept Rally usually the Sunday of the August long weekend West of Sundre. Both are side by side friendly as far as I know. We usually go to the Sundre Poker Rally.

    Great ride Art. Very clear camera too!. What is your camera model? Half of my problem im thinking is due to a very scratched lense on my go-pros case.

    I have not. that's the first of heard of it and I appreciate your quick responses!! I only have the factory gauges as I only have mild mods to not void my warranty. My trail seems to run around 75% temp when I'm not having temp issues. I would like to have my radiator/oil cooler relocated to the rear role bar like the 1000cc but I can't find a kit and am not a fabricator..

    what do you do to keep your cat from overheating?? I saw your video where you relocated your oil cooler. mine overheats almost Everytime I go out...

    • @artman265
      @artman265 8 років тому

      I have made some scoops for the rad. The push bar blocks a bunch of the air flow that's the main reason I moved the oil cooler, the mud builds up between the oil cooler and the rad and with the mud/silt staying in the rad in the spots I couldn't reach with the washer the rad was only getting 50% air flow. so make sure to check between your rad and oil cooler for additional blockage. I carry an old Ford F150 windshield washer tank with a sprayer wand and a cigarette power connector ( Modified myself) to rinse off the rad in the dry hill climbs after I have gone through some deep mud, to make sure the rad is clear and I haven't really had to use it since I moved the oil cooler. Thanks for watching and hope this helps.

      Also does your fan cycle correctly,( look into a breaker for your fan fuse if you are going through a lot of deep water). You might want to check if you might have an air bubble at the thermostat if it doesn't. If you run at the top of your heat range you might have a blockage of air at your rad or an air bubble(at the thermostat) if it hasn't been bled properly. We do run at around 30 Deg C/ 90F ambient temp max so that might make a difference.

    • @jeep4low4fun
      @jeep4low4fun 8 років тому

      It's a fairly new machine (maybe 5 payments made) and I know I hear the fan cycling on and off as the machine heats/cools. I carry a super soaker and last weekend in about 70*F temps I went through almost 2 cases of water trying to get it to stop over heating... Ended up having to be towed almost 30 miles back to camp through rough trails..

    • @jeep4low4fun
      @jeep4low4fun 8 років тому

      Overheating seems to be a fairly common issue from the other wildcat trail/sport guys I've met. Last weekend it was super dry and I went through minimal mud holes (which where more water than soup) and I just can't believe that the design is that terrible.

    • @artman265
      @artman265 8 років тому

      The worst I have had it here was it reaching 210F and going into limp mode but that was pretty extreme for here, rad was plugged off and climbing hills. I'm going to guess your machine is having an air pocket in the system if it is overheating at that temp. But I have heard they run hot to start with. Have you looked into the air vent mod for the spark plug access the guys in the sand dune use. Rad problems seem to be a challenge for all machines, which is why the mud guys run a rad up out of the water level.

      Ya I love their music, and my Uncle had the privilege of playing with them when they stopped into a venue he was playing at and he got them to join him on stage. He said they were awesome guys. UA-cam copyright tracker actually catches my music I'm listening to on my stereo while driving and sometime I have to put music in over the Video to get around it or I have to mute the sound. Glad this one came through. Thanks for watching.

    Hi, enjoy your riding vid's. It appears you do not have power steering. do you wish you would have gotten it? I'm considering buying a trail and would like to know more from riders/owners. I see it doesn't have much in the way of engine braking going downhill. Keep the Vid's coming, Thanks!

    • @artman265
      @artman265 8 років тому

      Hi, thanks for watching. I got one of the first years of the Trail ( #43 off the assembly line) there was no power steering available when I got mine. Considering I am running 30 inch monster mayhem tires and it still turns pretty good without power steering. With stock tires it turns with 1 finger its quite light on the steering. The Clutching I have for the larger tires does help for down hill engine braking but you do have to keep on the throttle to keep the belt engaged, so that takes some getting used too. I have had it steep enough going downhill that the tip sensor shut off the engine....the brakes hold really well. Cheers.
