    There is no A flat in the A major scale. It's a G sharp. A B C# D E F# G# A It would be like calling B a C flat in the C major scale. You never repeat the same note name twice, unless you're talking diminished scale.

    • @ryankingmp
      @ryankingmp 6 днів тому

      Yes. You’re correct. If you’ll notice, I actually do say G sharp in the video. Unfortunately, the software notated it as A flat. Thanks for the input.

    Whenever you cut away from the Piano to you talking, that blinding white background is very harsh on the eyes.. if you could tone it down a bit, that would be great. great lesson otherwise 😎👍

      The 1, 4 and 5 chords of a major scale are major. The rest are minor chords except the 7th which is diminished. I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, viidim - Capitals are major, lower case minor. Applies to any key. Thats the basics of it. I am assuming you know the major scale formula (RTTSTTTS) and if you don't you should learn it asap.

    How is e flat minor the seventh chord when its the 6th note in the scale

    • @ryankingmp
      @ryankingmp 19 днів тому

      It’s not. The seventh cord would be F diminished. I start by naming the number of the cord and then stating the name of the cord. It might be a little confusing if your simply reading the text on screen.

    • @pianosity
      @pianosity Місяць тому

      You are correct. I’m just borrowing from the key of E flat major on the four and five chords. So I’m playing an A- flat and a B-flat and then landing back on C major.

    • @pianosity
      @pianosity Місяць тому

      Agreed. If you play the same thing over and over again, it can get old quickly! That's the beauty of having so many chord options. Keep it fresh.

  • @jezecrobertson4625
    @jezecrobertson4625 Місяць тому

    Okay, I know this isnt too useful to point out but it's not a suspention if you're including the resolution in the chord. Instead, you played a Cadd9 chord which just means you're playing the nineth without the seventh.

    • @pianosity
      @pianosity Місяць тому

      You're correct in that it is technically an 'add' if you include the 3rd with the 2nd or 4th. I've seen it notated both as a 'Cadd2' or rather a 'C2' chord. A Cadd9 typically indicates that the 7th is played as well due to 9ths, 11ths, and 13ths all being 'extensions' of the 7th chords. Unfortunately so much of this tends to be subjective. But thanks for the input. It helps clarify for those scratching their heads.

    • @adriankolewa3473
      @adriankolewa3473 Місяць тому

      aCtUaLLy...(I'm sorry) add9 doesn't indicate the 7th being played, that is what we use the 'add' for. A C9 would include the seventh, a Cadd9 doesn't.@@pianosity

    • @pianosity
      @pianosity Місяць тому

      Thanks for the input. As was said, a lot of this tends to be subjective, depending on where you’ve come from musically(I.E. Traditional/classical, jazz, Nashville, country, etc.) there’s a lot of discrepancy in the area of chord symbols. That’s why it’s good to educate ourselves and clarify when playing with other players. Thanks again for the input.
