    Thank you Hall Monitor for inviting professor Propheter, an expert on the economics of sports arenas, to contextualize and dissect the 76ers project and help us understand how these sports franchises operate. In light of what was discussed, it is confounding that decision makers, Philadelphia elected officials, blindly trust numbers presented by the 76ers and consulting firms and choose to disregard decades of data and research on the subject, proving that the benefits of urban sports stadium is very little, if not non-existent or negative. Is this the new way of doing politics we were promised by the new mayor?

    I was disappointed that they didn't keep Cecelia Thompson, who advocates for our special needs population. Your right Denise, I thought the same thing when I saw Wilkerson was being kept. This whole process happened like a thief in the night.

    The reporting on septa was one-sided. Talk with Transit Forward Philly, 5th Square, or any other advocacy group that is pushing for the bus revolution. The concerns of the folks going to these public meetings are valid, but they’re also unchanged since the beginning of the public engagement process. Seniors and disabled people have a hard time getting to the new bus stop… of course they do! Even if every bus stopped at every corner we wouldn’t be able to effectively serve every senior in the city. That’s why we need to fund paratransit instead of slowing down every single route to serve the lucky few that live directly along the route. Septa should focus on cleanliness and safety… obviously. But that means hiring cleaners and officers. This plan is revenue neutral, meaning no new busses and no new drivers. The cost to change the signs and routes is not significant relative to septa’s annual payroll, and saying “septa has the money to do this so obviously they can afford to…” is extremely disingenuous. Everyone wants a bus to stop outside their house and give them a one seat ride to their destination. But septa has a finite number of drivers and busses, and they’re just following a basic playbook on how to deliver the most frequent and reliable service to the greatest number of riders. They have to change it all at once because an incremental rollout would mean years of chaos. There’s nothing revolutionary at all about this plan, it’s what every other modern transit agency has already done.

    Whenever I ride the bus it seems at least one person gets on without paying. Could you find out how much money SEPTA is losing because of this?

    As regards to SEPTA'S fiscal cliff, the fact that every 3 yrs busses, BSL & MFL demand large increases, well beyond COLA. The union leaders hold the entire city hostage; they know full well many riders are of the working poor with insecure jobs. They are pricing themselves out of a job; the proposed elimination 23 bus routes being proof.

    Great show, but it would have been more helpful if the host described the 2023 Philadelphia Election November Ballot weeks ago, when many voters like me did early voting via mail.

    SEPTA is losing money by people getting on and refusing to pay.

    The TWU holds this city hostage every 2 years. What do riders get? We get driver call outs, rudeness, getting passed by on the corner, bumpy, jumpy rides where you can barely type something on your phone, lateness as much as 18 min. and employees who don't know the first thing about customer service. For people with no skills and a HS DIPLOMA, I'd say go ANYWHERE and see if you'll get your current starting rate, benes, union etc.

    horse hooey. Those teens involved in the looting was the primary responsibility of the parents. As far as how police dealt with them, "teen" is merely a number. These are young men and women capable of inflicting deadly harm on innocent workers, shopkeepers or innocent bystanders; but most importantly on the police themselves. Obviously their parents have no control nor are these kids being taught respect for people, property or rule of law. My parents taught me to obey any and all instructions/commands by police. Now you wanna complain about how they're treated by police?! YOU are the disgrace not the police!

    the main reason busses are slow IMO is bus stops are too close together. Many times these stops are not even a full city block apart. A good example is the 18 bus on Rising Sun Ave

    I have communicated with Lance re: SEPTA the proposals are draconian and also head scratchers, like the 70 which goes crosstown serving many neighborhoods. The change makes almost the entire run redundant with the 18 ... just one example.

    Cindy Bass placed many Asian take outs in jeopardy with her bill to ban bullet proof glass. Given the level of gun violence in this city, this bill was absurd in the extreme. I would not vote for her as Chief City Dog Walker.

    Water is a necessity..and should be very affordable. The PWD is gouging people and charging way too much money. No1 in poverty should have their water turned off!!! It's a crime what's happening in all these government agencies. Ppl need water..Shameful. Ppl should be in an uproar.

    Does any one ever comment here? The PWD is dead set against anything temporary to cover it's outlandish costs, The Rescue plan and other options were, apparently, not even pondered by PWD as a way to limit price increases. What this means is....the PWD is determined to have unending surpluses reinforced by authorized monthly service charges and rates that'll be there forever (Ever see their rates drop?). In collusion with the appropriate rate setters ...say "in their pocket". The Feds income largesse would not enable the PWD to have that unending 19% cushion to enlarge their reserve. It's not fair to the public..or the City. The PWD rates should be decided by neutral parties that are not politically connected to the "system". It is unfair and...let's be blunt...An insult to the residents of Philadelphia. The system is rigged...STOP IT!!!

  • @Abyss1021
    @Abyss1021 Рік тому

    The PWD's game is obvious. Disregard the money they were entitled to by simply disregarding it, The ARPA funds were available if requested, but the PWD is looking for "Permanent", irrevocable rate increases to rates and monthly service charges. Those monies are guaranteed forever. It's a "rigged" game" with no escape for homeowners. Why settle for a one time infusion of money from the Government when you can keep increasing rates to infinity? No controls, no filters. Replace the PWD leadership and consultants (paid for by the PWD cabal) and hire outside, honest CPA's and forensic auditors to look into the financial mismanagement. It'll be shocking to see the waste and misuse of customer payments to enrich an inner circle of bandits. It needs to be done. Don't debate the issue. Do it!!
