How To Sharpen Leather knife / Scary Sharp - cheap Sharpening Method during a #thunderstorm
What can you do during a thunderstorm? Probably many things, but I chose to sharpen my favorite leather knife.
Let me know in the comment if you like such films, are they helpful, or maybe they calm you down (yes!)
I wanted to show you this method, because I show you how to sharpen a knife in less than 30 minutes so that it shaves the hair on your hand. And as you know, a sharp knife is the basis, you can't work without it.
I purposely used the cheapest materials available such as sandpaper in many grades. At the end I use regular newspaper and leather covered with polish.
If you have any questions, feel free to post in the comments.

Making leather rougher from rusty screwdriver - leather craft tool you will make at home
Переглядів 44 тис.3 роки тому
Hi! How to make a leather rougher from what we have at hand? It turns out to be very easy. In the video, the entire process of making this skin tool. For some time now, I have missed a tool that will help me prepare the skin before gluing. Whenever I stick leather together, I try to mattify the surface as well as possible and thus ensure the best possible sticking of pieces of leather together....

    Nice idea--would think starting with a flat blade would save a lot of time vs grinding a Philips flat... But I just warmed up end of toothbrush to bend & taped some sandpaper onto it & works nicely, too. Not as durable, though!

    Excuse my ignorance, but why do you rough the leather up?

    • @raw_leather
      @raw_leather 3 роки тому

      Hey Stuart, thanks for asking. Matting and scratching the leather is necessary in the process of gluing leather elements. Before gluing them, matt the place that will be in contact with the adhesive. You can do it in any way - with a knife, stylus, awl, a special tool such as leather rougher or any tool that has sharp edges and we have them at hand :) Thanks to this, the connection is more durable, strong and the glued elements are practically impossible to tear without damaging the skin.

    • @sus8e462
      @sus8e462 3 роки тому

      You usually only need to rough up the finished/top grain side--improves the holding power/bond strength of the adhesive. A tool makes it easier to be precise, but sand paper or scratch awl works, too.

    If you flip the knife bevel-down when skiving you'll have a lot more control of the angle. As is you have to hold it so shallow to skive you can't get any control without hitting the table. This is why wooden plane blades are bevel down.

      @HandandSew Good point! No, I didn't temper it again. I agree that would be correct, but it's a leather tool that won't be used 24/7 and I felt it wasn't essential. I will let you know in 6 months how it works and if it was a mistake :)
