How To Sharpen Leather knife / Scary Sharp - cheap Sharpening Method during a #thunderstorm
What can you do during a thunderstorm? Probably many things, but I chose to sharpen my favorite leather knife.
Let me know in the comment if you like such films, are they helpful, or maybe they calm you down (yes!)
I wanted to show you this method, because I show you how to sharpen a knife in less than 30 minutes so that it shaves the hair on your hand. And as you know, a sharp knife is the basis, you can't work without it.
I purposely used the cheapest materials available such as sandpaper in many grades. At the end I use regular newspaper and leather covered with polish.
If you have any questions, feel free to post in the comments.

Making leather rougher from rusty screwdriver - leather craft tool you will make at home
Переглядів 44 тис.3 роки тому
Hi! How to make a leather rougher from what we have at hand? It turns out to be very easy. In the video, the entire process of making this skin tool. For some time now, I have missed a tool that will help me prepare the skin before gluing. Whenever I stick leather together, I try to mattify the surface as well as possible and thus ensure the best possible sticking of pieces of leather together....

где взять ржавую отвёртку?
Thank you this was very helpful! I am planning on starting my own leather business and need to make the edges of my leather shiny. Thanks!
great idea!! when i started out in the craft, i made my own "japanese" skiving knife out of a stiff paint scraper from ACE hardware.
This should've been done before assembly
With zipper is best
Good👍 job! I support you👍!

@@MBJ2323 I will let you know! Cheers
You are a genius. thank you. I have been looking for more jobs for my dremel.
When i saw how limpdickedly you handled that toothbrush i knew this would be a bad job and video…
Just restarted leather as hobbyists and amazing how a little sharpening improve over the new tools I'm a BlackSmith Hobbyist and learning. This video was a great experience 👌 thanks
Awesome! Do you forging knives? 😊
.....Or you can use a wood rasp, like I do. They come in all shapes, I like to use a rounded one. I can distress leather edges this way also. Practice on a piece of scrap leather first. 😎👍
Really good quality video keep it up
Thanks! 🙂

Please center and balance the grinder disc, it make mi sick watching it 😉
Heh;) good point! Next time I will;)
It works like a trash. Sorry
Good job I've been thinking on making one myself, even if it comes out too ruff in the beginning you can dial it back as you see fit.
Make yourself one and let me know how it turned out :) good luck!
Which compound are you using at 3:10 ?
@Emil, it's Osmo Polyx-oil (Transparent)
Оно ж со временем просто заполируется о кожу 🤷🏼♂️
Можно насечки более глубокие сделать)
Сразу видно человеку делать нечего
:D Спасибо
!!!
Interesting
Nice idea--would think starting with a flat blade would save a lot of time vs grinding a Philips flat... But I just warmed up end of toothbrush to bend & taped some sandpaper onto it & works nicely, too. Not as durable, though!
Nice
Excuse my ignorance, but why do you rough the leather up?
Hey Stuart, thanks for asking. Matting and scratching the leather is necessary in the process of gluing leather elements. Before gluing them, matt the place that will be in contact with the adhesive. You can do it in any way - with a knife, stylus, awl, a special tool such as leather rougher or any tool that has sharp edges and we have them at hand :) Thanks to this, the connection is more durable, strong and the glued elements are practically impossible to tear without damaging the skin.
You usually only need to rough up the finished/top grain side--improves the holding power/bond strength of the adhesive. A tool makes it easier to be precise, but sand paper or scratch awl works, too.
My easy way... Flat Needle File, Heat it... Bend It... Heat it... That's it😜😜
good one! but it depends on file type :)
@@raw_leather yes... Cast iron files won't.. But carbon steel files will
If you flip the knife bevel-down when skiving you'll have a lot more control of the angle. As is you have to hold it so shallow to skive you can't get any control without hitting the table. This is why wooden plane blades are bevel down.
This is _weirdly_ exactly what I was looking for...
Glad to read it!
Lol same
How long did it take to dry (enough to not get cards greasy) after putting that on?
Hey, You need to leave it for a day. After one day wipe off excess product.
I will definitely be doing this
Great!
Good idea but...
Garbage, it doesn’t even work. You cut from a frame of it doing nothing to another showing the leather roughed.
It works fine :)
I'm convinced enough that I'm ready to try it myself. If it doesn't work I'll let you know.
@@Struthio_Camelus Great!
Such a hater.
After 30 minutes it finished the job
Badass! Subbed
Thank you!
I'm glad you like it! Such a knife is best sharpened on water stones (it is necessary to finish it by sharpening on the leather. Soon I will make a new video how to sharpen a leather knife :)
Did you re-temper the steel after bending it?
@HandandSew Good point! No, I didn't temper it again. I agree that would be correct, but it's a leather tool that won't be used 24/7 and I felt it wasn't essential. I will let you know in 6 months how it works and if it was a mistake :)
