I was an adventurer like you once... until I took a STUNNING arrow to the knee.
@@xiongray 😂
Yeah
It took them this long to give the monk class an ability that turns them into IP Man, when that should've been a thing from the get go
Yeah, it’s crazy that it took so long!
And this is why in my custom module, we just have one-handed, two-handed, and versatile. You can use str or dex. Unless its a twohanded melee. Then its str. All ranged weapons only use dex too, but thats normal
Alright, totally unrelated but for your algorithm; are there any other action (not bonus action or reaction) teleports besides thunder step and dimension door? Maybe there's a class feature or something I'm not finding.
@@mjust7119 Thanks for the comment! There are only 2 I can think of from the top of my head but they are really good actually. First one is called, “Scatter” and you can teleport 5 creatures up to 120 feet away as an action. This can also be used on enemies with a wisdom saving throw. Then there is “Vortex Warp” and you can teleport 1 creature within a range of 90 feet as an action, but every time you upcast it it can go 30 feet more, and it’s only a 2nd level spell so it can get pretty crazy.
I think it is worth noting that for a regular damage round, an upcasted spirit shroud can still give more damage than the blade of disaster. Because high level warlock spells are almost always quite underwhelming, I would recommend a sorcerer dip for anyone who wants outlandish DPR. If you take spell sniper and quicken eldritch blast, or just quicken a bladetrip for more DPR. Not to mention increased utility, shield, a sorcerer subclass, misty step ect.
Is that true though? You can’t upcast with Mystic Arcanum, so the highest Spirit Shroud gets is 2D8, I haven’t done the math in awhile, but I’m pretty sure Blade of Disaster would still do more especially with the expanded crit range and Elven accuracy. On a non-warlock caster with 9th level slots I would agree. As far as doing an Eldritch Blast build I’m sure that’s the case, but that’s not the point of this video. The concept is a melee warlock. I’m sure you’re right though.
I think it could pair interestingly with the World Tree Barbarian. Their Battering roots feature just requires a Heavy OR Reach weapon, and it allows you to use the Push or Topple Masteries regardless of the mastery of the weapon. While increasing your reach an additional 10 feet. So, you can topple, push, slow, all from 20 feet away. And thats not including what Brutal Strike can do now lol
That’s actually crazy! For sure gonna make a barbarian whip build at some point😂
@@comradewarners apologizes. I was mistaken. It is a Heavy or VERSATILE weapon. Not reach. My bad. Still, i think there are some interesting Barbarian/whip builds. Brutal strike can still work with a reach weapon, and with slasher, you can still push an enemy while slowing them with both the slow property and the slasher feat
@ yeah, that could still be SUPER good!
bro thats insane. 2 weapon fighting whips as a fighter bugbear with the slasher feat means you can slow the target by 30ft per turn, while you are 15ft away from them. not only this, but when you get extra attack, you can slow them more consistently with 3 attacks. nice balance wotc, 2024 rules are definitely compatible with 5e
wait nvm slow only affects a target once per turn, but still 20 ft of movement lost is crazy
ok but as an eldritch knight fighter, you can replace one of your attacks with ray of frost, meaning you can still get the 30 foot slow, assuming one whip attack and ray of frost hits
ngl im asking my dm for a whip with nick mastery
Levels 5, 11, & 17 are the same level Cantrips get upgraded. Honestly says more that Cantrips should've upgraded based on class level or even Spellcaster level instead of character level.
@@xiongray it would for sure be more fair!
It’s not just you can deflect piercing bludgeoning and slashing attacks. You can deflect any attack that includes those damage types, even if it’s only one point of damage.
That’s actually so great too, because based on the monsters we’ve seen so far that will be in the new monster manual, a lot of them have attacks that have weapon damage plus another type! Good to know! 😁
Monk's 18th level feature provides resistance to all damage types except Force for 1 min & 3 FP. That should help with damage mitigation.
Couldn’t you technically do this if you have a warlock just craft an enspelled item for you? Like you wouldn’t have to multi class now with new crafting rules. A spell slot item for level 1 spell only takes 10 days to make, 5 with help and only costs 200 gold. You could also get a paladin to make a divine favor spell scroll for you and then potion of growth with herb I mean things can get wild with new crafting rules and Druid
@@benruhl716 Can you upcast with the enspelled weapon? I think that’s the problem, and you also get other things from warlock. The 2 extra origin feats also do a lot for this build. Also for build videos I don’t talk about magic items even with the new rules because Bastions are still optional. (The new crafting rules actually aren’t that different, it’s the bastions that make things easier. This also was made before the DMG was fully out)
@@comradewarners so you can have them cast it also at later levels into the item at spell level 1-6 or whichever spell slot/rarity is available as long as they use the spell slot each day helping make and you have the required materials from the looks of it. From what people are interepting the spell level is the rarity so a first level spell cast at 4th level every x days would give you the up casted AoA! That’s what my table decided at least 😂. Crafting is so fun now! I do think divine favor for all classes is insane tho, it’s crazy powerful with dual wielders for just 200g and 10 days of work. But what you said makes sense, but I think if people are more aware of how easy crafting is now it would become more common and talked about, even though it is still SO new!
@@benruhl716 yeah, it also depends on how your table runs a campaign. For the campaign I play in, 10 days would take 6 months IRL most likely lol. We generally don’t have downtime very often, and if we do it’s just a couple of days.
a rogue with a whip is now my headcanon for the Johnny Test sfx
LOL
TOOOP OF THE MORNIN... oh wait sorry wrong channel 😂 its a knee jerk reaction when you hear the whip
@@AllMenAreBerries LOL
If you use it as a monk weapon you then can swap out the damage die for your Martial Arts die

@@ericpeterson8732 close! Kensai Frost Goliath! Full build video linked on this short! :D
Nasty way to trap a person. If youre only using all this once per turn, adding a Cantrip or Sneak Attack would be great ways to do additional damage. Or, if you are a Barbarian, switch to a Topple weapon keep an enemy knocked prone for an entire turn
I like your content but the overly loud tiktok music kinda kills it for me
@@somedudesomewhere924 understandable! I’ll keep that in mind in future posts! Just so you know I have a long form version of this, and the music is waaaay quieter! I’ll for sure tone down the shorts volume too though 😄
Would a Warlock with Repelling Blast and True Strike, Green-Flame Blade, or Booming Blade be able to do even better at exploiting the whip's speed reduction? You would have to multiclass to get the whip mastery, but you can knock an enemy away while lowering their speed at the same time, making it so that an enemy of your choice gets completely locked down. And because you've got spellcasting, familiar, and are tacking a cantrip onto the damage it ends up still being a a decent way to play. (In fact if you have Agonizing Blast and Repelling Blast on Magic Stone, you can use your bonus action to have allies and familiars knocking enemies around while still dealing decent damage, too.)
@@normal6483 That for sure would do a lot for a build like this! You could do even more with a single hit! I must now think about this for a long time! *theory crafting intensifies*
You spelled "DEFLECT" wrong in your thumbnail.
@@matalvis Thank you so much for letting me know!! I’m using a UA-cam feature that lets me test out 3 thumbnails at once, but it doesn’t let me see them all while it’s testing it lol
Im using whip as a warlock pact weapon! Lifedrinker + devouring blade means im doing at least 35 radiatant/necrotic damage a turn
@@jessesmith4350 That’s awesome! The 10 foot reach is very underrated!
Great build! I went straight Custom Lineage Kensei Monk. Custom Lineage feat: Gunner (+1 DEX= DEX18/WIS16) Background Feat: Strike of the Giants (Storm) 4th level: Soul of the Storm Giant (+1 WIS= DEX18/WIS17) 8th-level: Slasher (+1 DEX= DEX19/WIS17) 12th-level: Weapon Master: Whip (+1 DEX= DEX20/WIS17) 16th-level: ASI (+2 WIS= DEX20/WIS19) 19th-level: Boon of True Sight (+1 WIS= DEX20/WIS20) By lv20, your DEX & WIS should be 24, with a Spell Save DC of 21 & 24 AC (before Agile Parry). Soul of the Storm Giant creates an Aura or 10-ft emanation that cuts speed in half for those that start their turn in it. A reduced Speed alone makes you a higher priority because you'll be the only target around. Gunner ignores loading property, proficiency in Firearms, & Ranged Attacks in 5-ft is possible without disadvantage, giving you an alternative ranged options & with 24 DEX & Sharpen the Blade because how often does the DM provide a +3 Firearm? Gunner & Linguist are the few feats Custom Lineage can acquire that provides a half-feat at 1st level & Custom Lineage no longer is just (+2) or (+1, +1) as thise are tied to backgrounds.
Defensive Duelist could replace Slasher to skyrocket AC 26 --> 32
That sounds like a really fun build!! I need to look this up and check but I would argue with Custom Lineage and background feat I don’t think you’re meant to take any feats that aren’t origin feats. I think any old feats that aren’t replaced with the 2024 PHB are assumed to have a level 4 requirement. I might be wrong though! If so though that’s a pretty crazy build! A gun monk is very cool!
Catwoman coming to my campaign as a thief antagonist
@@captaincriticize8050 oooo!!! That’s a great idea for an NPC!
@comradewarners do you think making her a literal cat woman as a tabaxi is too much? Or just true to character
@ I think that would be perfect, but my table is also a bit more up for humor like that at the table. Also Tabaxi could do some crazy stuff with a build like that!
@comradewarners very true. In this upcoming campaign it's almost low magic, not like it's unavailable but like it's much harder to access and is highly specialized, but in that vein races other than humans, elves, and dwarves are also uncommon. So i think the tabaxi would add a lot of mystique to the cat and mouse game (pun intended)
@ yeah, that sounds awesome! Also in low magic, non-magical abilities really shine like the new whip! Should be a ton of fun!
Whip it out.
@@mjust7119 omg, that’s a great name for the build 😂
Monk on the streets but a freak in the sheets
@@xiongray LOL, I was hoping someone would understand what I meant 😂
So sick of goliaths. I get it. The flexibility is great and being able to get big is useful. Like if they made duergars a common race like they did with drow. But by continuing to use it for every build, you reinforce the idea that it is the "best". And we fall into the same ruts we did in 2014. The point of separating stat boosts from species was to make species more flexible and not create a new hierarchy. Personally, I like humans for the extra feat, which I can use on the one I want without worrying about the stat increases.
@@ericpeterson8732 yes! I try my best to restrict myself from doing too much of the same thing but when making this build I was like, “I am focusing on slowing enemies, and if I could be large size I could grapple bigger targets, and be able to be within 5 feet of more targets to hold the Cavalier mark… if only there was some way to make that happen easily…” as I said in the intro though, I’m for sure not gonna use Goliath for a good while now.
next build: monk in full plate armor
Could be fun! I’ve seen it done with the old rules! 😁
@ ive played with it in the new rules, easiest way for some highish dmg is to dip fighter (plate + martial weapons), then go rest shadow monk for full advantage with 2d6 weapons
You miss out on your initial features: bonus unarmed strikes, Martial Arts Die, Dexterous attacks, adding your Wisdom to your AC, increased speed etc. You also need a 15 strength, chances are if your DM made you take the Monk array creation, you won't have it. Moreover, since you aren't proficient in armor, you will always have disadvantage on any strength or dexterity D20 tests. Finally, since you can't cast spells in armor, because you aren't proficient in them, you can't choose a subclass that casts spells.
@@The_RealWilliam You dont need your i initial features, you take unarmed fighting style with ur fighter dip, u go full str (15 +2), 13 dex, 14 con, 9int, wis (13 +1), 8 cha, boom, now you got good base stats, still good defences, more burst damage, and a higher ac
@@deadku6150 Whoops. My bad. I see you mentioned dipping and I missed it. Disregard.
Thank you all so much for watching the video!! I had a couple small audio hiccups, but luckily through youtube editor I was able to delete them and the video still makes perfect sense! If you're curious what I said that was deleted it was during the level 20 DTPR, I was explaining that the Mage using their Acrane Burst attack did more damage than Cone Of Cold and Fireball because I have evasion and also had a +8 in con saves! 😁
H K 😊
I like the crossbow fighter with a shield bc you tank by killing the enemy really hard. Also, your dex saves don't suck and your ac is still 20 or 19 without magic items.
That is a super fun tank build! What subclass would you go for with the 2024 rules?
@comradewarners I don't know all the new subclasses very well, but battle master seems to be one of the only ones that can help with ranged attacks besides arcane archer but you need a long or short bow for that. What would you use?
@ So the battle master is a great choice! It’s not much different from the 2014 battle master, the main differences are with the fighter class themselves and it’s only buffs! Eventually battle master gets the ability to do 1 maneuver every turn for free, so that’s pretty cool!
@comradewarners haha cool! I've always wanted to DM for my friends but I have no clue how to run a campaign
I wish they kept dedicated weapon feature from Tasha's but with how good the monk is that might be too greedy. I had sooo much fun with my shadow monk Volo hobgoblin with a whip. I still think there needed to be a "basic combat training" origin feat that gave you proficiency in 1 weapon, light armor, and a feature similar to the outlander background to be able to gather food for the party.
@@JoshuaSmith-hl1xj Yeah, the dedicated weapon feature was so good! Now Kensei kind of feels like how Hexblade felt in the 2014 rules. Subclass tax to be able to use weapons effectively with the features. I would love a feat like that! For sure 2024 rules have a lot less flavorful features unfortunately.
Did you increase WISDOM with A +1 feat? IF not. Why have Wisdom 17? 16 gives same mod.
So actually with our background we took a +2 in Wisdom so our Wisdom was already at a 17, so with that feat we get it to an 18! 😁
@@comradewarners What feat did I miss. 15 + 2 (Background) + ? 18
@@marcducorsky8736 yes, the background gave a +2 to wisdom.
@@comradewarners 15 Wisdom + 2 from Background = 17. Where did the +1 come from. I rewatched. Did I miss a feat?
@ ahhhh, so I did with the Epic Boon feat.
Also have redirect attack to reduce damage once per reaction.
@@marcducorsky8736 Yup! Got that included to be assumed every round! I might have misspoken at one point and said once a turn, but I meant once a round.
