    Mark, as someone who counted the frequency of letter usage in today's bulletin during service, this struck a little close to home. I won't go as far as to say that I never counted things when I used to have the good fortune of worshipping with you, but I will attribute most of those to my "tendencies" and not your preaching.

    The Danes are from the tribe of Dan; the Goths are from the tribe of Gad. The Jutes are from the tribe of Judah, and the name "Saxons" is literally an abbreviation for "Isaac's sons." The world is FILLED with Israel's scattered tribes and includes all kinds of people from every continent I believe (except for the northern and southern poles.) The "Jews" as we know them are basically Judeans, the SOUTHERN kingdom of Israel who were able to return from Babylon with an awareness of their ancestry.

    I do not think that Jesus spoke Greek! It is very clear in those verses that Jesus claimed that Peter is the rock and Jesus had handed over the key of heaven to Peter. You cannot twist the verses to suit yr understanding. Jesus said very plainly clear that Peter is the rock and Jesus said he gave the key of heaven to Peter...not to himself! Jesus entrusted Peter to look after the church, to look after the flock/followers of Jesus. Jesus is the church built on the rock, i.e. head by Peter and based on Peter's faith in Jesus😂

      Thanks for responding and for your statement. Jesus probably spoke Aramaic. But the inspired writer of the Gospel of Matthew wrote his book in the language of Greek. The next chapter of Matthew (17) we see God telling Peter and the disciples to listen to Jesus. In Galatians we see that Peter did not have authority over the apostle Paul (Galatians 2:11 shows that Peter was not perfect). Our church belongs to Christ, not to Peter.

      @@sulongenjop7436 Thanks again for your response. Is there any other passage of Scripture that says that Peter or his successor is over the church? Colossians 1:18 (written many years after Jesus ascended to heaven) says that Jesus is and remains the head of the church. The Keyes given to Peter (and the other apostles Matthew 18:18). @@sulongenjop7436 Perhaps we are having trouble understanding one another because of cultural or language differences. Ephesians 2:20 says that the household of God is built upon the foundation of Peter and the apostles with Jesus being the chief cornerstone. Jesus has not given up his authority over his church (Ephesians 5:22-33). Peter preached the first gospel sermon, but he did not have authority over the other apostles. And the Bible does not tell us of anytime when Peter set another successor over the church.

    If baptism does all that, saves, seals, clothes you, unites you in Christ's death and resurrection, then why deny that for your children and babies? Peter said, on the day of Pentecost, the gift is for you and your children... He was speaking to those who circumcised their sons on the 8th day; but concerning baptism, he excludes none. To say babies can't believe is silly, since no one can; it's the gift of God. To say they don't need it is like saying during Noah's flood they don't need to be on the Ark. How many babies drowned in that flood of condemnation? Why would you deny the Flood that saves to babies? As you said. Jesus said "Forbid them not, for of such is the Kingdom of God." Forbid them not to be brought to Jesus! Jesus didn't say they don't need to be brought to Me to be blessed." And we are blessed like those babies who were brought to Him, but we are blessed in baptism, and so should they be. John the Baptist was filled in his mother's womb from the greeting of the Christ barer. You don't think baptism bares Christ for them and brings them to Christ? Don't deny them such a greeting. He gives them the Spirit too. You don't think Peter promised it to ALL; and all baptized were given the Spirit of promise. That Paul said that ALL who were baptized have clothed themselves with Christ. You think babies are holy yet David confessed, "In sin did my mother conceive me." the meaning wasn't about his mother, but that he was a sinner from birth. But even if all babies are received by God, yet why deny the gift of the Spirit where it is clearly given through sure and CERTAIN MEANS? it is sad that you restrict the promise of God, but Peter didn't, nor Paul, and certainly not Christ, who said, "Forbid them not!" It's not the babies' faith that is at issue, it's yours! You need to be like them, have faith like them. Forbid them not the gift of life and salvation in Christ; forbid them not the Spirit of Promise to all who call on the Name of the Lord, forbid them not to be washed in the waters of regeneration, forbid them not baptism! Repent from your pride that thinks you have a better faith then the faith brought to John in the womb; and brought to those babies who are baptized and given the Holy Spirit. Sure, you believe God can make children of Abraham from these rocks; but you can't conceive of God making Children of God, in Christ- through baptism?

      Thank you for taking the time to write me and to remind me to be humble. The command given in Acts 2:39 to "you, your children, and all who are far off" is in Acts 2:38 where it says to repent and be baptized for the remission of sins. I fully agree that if a child is old enough to repent of his/her sins then they need to be baptized. Repentance is more than sorrow, it is a changed life. The Bible defines sin as lawlessness (1 John 3:4) or neglect (James 4:17). My understanding is that baptism requires belief (Mark 16:16) and repentance (Acts 2:38).

    • @steverentfrow2415
      @steverentfrow2415 Рік тому

      @markswritings , Thank you for your kind response. I understand your concerns about whom should be baptized. You correctly recognize that the scriptures call for belief and repentance; and your thoughts are that one needs to be at an age of reason (as it is oft called) in order to be baptized. I appreciate your video, where you extol what great benefits God gives the baptized. What if I can show you from the scriptures that babies can believe and even repent; Martin Luther argued that babies can believe even better than the wise and prudent of our day. Would you be willing to hear the evidence from me? Would you be willing to have a discussion? It's hard to fit good theology on a bumper sticker; so we may need to take some time and go through a lot of scripture. We know scripture doesn't contradict itself, and that means we can't throw any scriptures away, but we must see how they reconcile. Think of how the disciples asked Jesus to increase their faith. Jesus' response revealed that their very understanding of what faith even is was off the mark. So perhaps my understanding is off, or maybe yours is. I would appreciate an understanding that's in all its parts true, holy, and sound. So I will hear your arguments as to why we shouldn't baptize babies; will you hear mine, why we should? The command to believe and the command to repent is there. This I fully acknowledge. I will take the needed time, if you're willing, and show you from scripture that babies can believe and repent and that they should be baptized. But I do need to know if you're willing, if I'm going to take the time. Hope to hear back. Thanks again!

    The big picture that is lost by changing the name from "the resurrection of the dead"... as Paul calls it in 1 Cor 15:42-54 to the unbiblical term "rapture" is the fact that the dead in Christ get their physical bodies back resurrected from the dead. In 1 Thess 4:13-18... Paul doesn't want us ignorant to what happens to the dead. Of course, it's the living who want to know... so all teachings are focused on those who are 'alive and REMAIN"... rather on what happens to the dead... thus the term 'rapture' has total focus on the living, when the context is about the DEAD. Please study these passages, but this time pay close attention to what happens to the dead: 2 Cor 5:8 1 Cor 15:42-54... Note: most ignore the context prior to verse 51... 1 Thess 4:13-18 Important facts from these passages: 1) The physical body is left on Earth and does not inherit heaven.... 2 Cor 5:8, 1 Cor 15:50. To be absent (dead) from the physical body is to be present with the Lord. 2) The dead in Christ return WITH Him... 1 Thess 4:14... how... in their spiritual bodies... 1 Cor 15;44 which are absent from their physical body... which are corrupted in the grave, but present with the Lord. BUT WAIT!!!.... not only are they returning with Christ, but they are "rising first"...vs. 16... TWO SEPARATE BODIES... 1 Cor 15:44.... the spiritual body returns with Christ, WHILE their PHYSICAL body is being raised from corruptible/perishable bodies to incorruptible/imperishable 3) Paul makes a division between the physical body and the spiritual body... 1 Cor 15:44-54 and tells us that the physical body does not inherit heaven...vs 50... yet THAT is what is renewed at the "Resurrection of the dead' 4) The dead in Christ return with Him for the purpose of Ruling and Reigning With Him for 1000 years. Without their physical bodies returned to them, they would be disembodied sprits or ghosts. 5) Jesus modeled His return in Acts 1;9-14. and returns "in like manner as He left". He left the Mount of Olives to the sky/clouds, and then into Heaven. Therefore when He returns, He comes from Heaven to the sky/clouds where the resurrection of the dead takes place....1 Cor 15:42-54, 1 Thess 4:13-18.... where He continues, in like manner as He left... to the Mount of Olives.... With ALL of His saints... Zech 14:4,5 6) No Scripture ever states that anyone is "raptured" to heaven for any length of time... that Ideal is directly contrary to the fact that the resurrected physical Earth Suits do no inherit heaven....

    Find peace folks! ABCs of Salvation Admit you are a sinner For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23 Believe that Jesus is the Lord And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 1 Timothy 3:16 Call upon his name That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:9-13 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. Galatians 2:21 KJV And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Why??? 1st Timothy 5:8 that's why. So if anyone on here wants to play stupid and say he still went to heaven even with the scripture I just posted you would be proclaiming that Faith is irrelevant and that there is some other factor or element that gets us into heaven besides faith...Open that black hole if you want to. It might be an argument against a _good_ god, but that doesn't affect my atheism at all. I'm an atheist because I haven't seen even *one piece of good evidence* that a god actually exists. And although I've been surrounded by Christians my entire life (and yes, I was raised Christian), I've never seen even *one piece of good evidence* that even *one* of the magical/supernatural stories in the Bible actually happened, either. I'm not looking for a Gish Gallop of vague claims, but if you don't have even *one* piece of good evidence backing up the stories you were taught to believe as a child, why do you still believe them? Why should _I_ believe them? The fact is, when it comes to the question of evil - and similar questions - Christians can just make up any explanation they want. Why not, after all? Claims are easy. _Every_ religion makes claims. So why should I believe _your_ claims, if you don't have even *one* piece of good evidence backing them up?
