I just stopped at Henry's Rabbit Ranch back in August 2018. Rich was there and I talked to him for quite a while. Even made a video of the Rabbit Ranch and other sites on Illinois Route 66 on my UA-cam page.

I remember when I was sixteen and Phil would let you borrow tools to work on your own car. What a great person. One time my car was stuck out at McDonalds here in Dwight and it wouldn't start. So dad and I went over to the station to talk to Phil and he said wack the starter with a hammer. He was a big help and he was right it started.

Thanks for your story. I was born in 1945. Those were great days The world is a lot different now. Maybe we can bring back some of the old ways.

I was the first tenent in that motel when it was converted to apartments... Too bad because it could have been converted so much more nicely...

One day in the summer of 1990, when returning home via I-55 from working on the railroad (Chicago & Northwestern RR) in Southern Illinois, I decided to stop for dinner at the Pig Hip (my only time!). Naturally, I ordered the famous Pig Hip ham sandwich and Earnie sat down with me as it was a little late in the day. He pretty much told me the same story on how he come up with the Pig Hip name. He also talked about meeting Colonel Sanders who was apparently selling franchises at the time.

Thanks for the memories, Fred. That was quite the summer of my life. I like hearing your perspective of the motel and your parents and the experiences of living on Route 66. Well done. I am sharing it with some of my friends.
