I competed in an adult division in a jiu jitsu tournament
I'm 53 and my training days are behind me. But back in the mid-90s I trained for roughly 4 years at Gracie Jiujitsu in Torrance. These were my prime years for training being in my 20s and still having my youth. In hindsight, I wish I had trained in Judo instead. There's something about Judo that really catches my attention instead of when I watch a Jiujitsu competition. I feel Judo would have been more tailor made for what I was looking for instead of Jiujitsu. Anyway, that was the past. I still enjoy watching Judo competitions. Anyway, nice job man considering this guy Sean was larger than you.
And youd be a whitebelt?
Judoka here (and bjj player). If I can offer you any advice it is to learn some basic grip-work when standing. Ask your judoka friend to teach you some basics. Watch how everytime he throws you, he easily takes grips and controls you. Jimmy Pedro has some great gripping tips on youtube if you search him. Try drill them every class before or after class.
He’s a damn good judo player. He did a lot of standard judo stuff. I’ve tapped many bjj players with that reverse triangle- which they never see coming.
2:21 is so slick. Never seen it hit in a live roll.
Cool content - +1 sub 🤙
You did well for a BJJ blackbelt kiddo!!! Peace & Love!!!
I always give Jits guys a hard time - im a Judoka and i feel we have a better base and balance than jits guys. I can pin most Jits guys on their back and they struggle to get me off them.
I took some Judo after my Jiu Jitsu career was over. Their scarf hold is on another level. I had to improve my escapes.
@NatDee-yj6nv did the opposite held one bjj guy in bjj class in kesa katame for 4 minutes I got bored. He was shocked said he couldn't move. I used to be able to pressure to hurt the guys ribs and lungs. Lack of training has hurt my hold downs and throws tho.
Punch him once?
shawn then proceeds to own him
Butt scoot.
I don't reàly understand the foot sweeps, they look so smooth and awesome 😊
Ideally you sweep the foot when there’s no weight on it as they’re attempting to put weight on it while stepping. Something like them slipping on ice.
I'll watch literally any video that has chill music like this. It's automatically interesting. I was just sort of vibing the whole time, not sure what this video is even about. That white belt is pretty good though!
Were you doing this as a demo for Shawn? B/c you weren't doing anything from standing, like at all...
Congratulations for the footlock. He don't saw this comming.
WHITE BELT WITH A UA-cam CHANNEL. INTERESTING
Genuinely, what was the point of this? The disparity in skill, whilst just putting it on the lower skilled guy is unproductive
The point is the training that you put into a guard, or a top game, means little if you cannot put yourself in the positions you have developed. Go back in the clip to where the guy in the black gi finally got to single leg X. It was a position he wanted for a long while but never got to it because his opponent just threw him and subbed him shortly after the throw. When the black gi finally got to single leg x, he got a toe-hold for a tap. Pretty handily might I add. He has skill, he is just not developed in throwing his opponent and getting to a dominant position. Which if we're being honest, matters quite a lot. Can't get to the butterfly guard you spent the last 3-4 years cultivating very easily when your opponent throws you and he's basically in side control/north-south. *THAT* is the point.
@@DeathxThexKid100 you've not told me what the point is. Can you pls tell me in a sentence or 2? You already know you're unable to get to most guards against a black belt in judo.
@@mhanif8816 Alright, here's the first sentence, and here comes the second. (Despite the fact I already told you the point.) Most BJJ practitioners have no idea how to do takedowns, or have no idea how to takedown thier opponent yet think they do; or they think they will simply get to thier game plan purely because they wanted it.
@DeathxThexKid100 So you're in agreement with what I'm saying. Against someone at that level, it's unlikely he'll be able to get to top, or utilise the guards he's proficient at. You're supporting my point. There's no value in rolling with someone where the skill & experience disparity is so large & they're giving you nothing. It's obvious that someone who has been training takedowns for Gi (in this instance) for a couple of years won't stand a chance against a judo guy with +8 years experience. So, there is no value like I said before. Tbf, your point is pointless.
@@mhanif8816 That is indeed the point, to illustrate that guard isn't the end-all-be-all. If you want the best shot at victory, you have to learn how to put the fight were you are strongest. If you cannot do that, but your opponent can, then the point I'm making is proven.
you can't submit what you can't throw
jutaijutsu >>>> judo >>> bjj
this enfuriates me to no end: bjj clowns always think they are so fn special, they think just because a wrestler or sambist or judoka officially never trained in bjj, that by default makes them a white belt, because that's the only way they were taught to see things, but that's of course wilful ignorance and sheer stupidity because other grappling arts involve submissions as well and furthermore are far better at not only takedown defence but takedowns in general, your black belt doesn't mean dick here because you're comparing apples and oranges, this is why bjj only works either against completely untrained people or against grapplers who only did bjj, as soon as you face a wrestler, sambist or judoka for example who are trained to stay on their feet and take you down as well as you are trained to submit someone on the ground, you're in trouble because what good is being an expert at submissions if you never succeed in taking down your opponent to the ground to begin with
Go men
Shawn passou o carro
Dont get how bjj ever got so popular and judo died out vurtually in morth america 😢
because unlike brazilians the japanese have honor, respect and humility, they refuse to profit off the wilful ignorance of the gullible masses at the expense of their art

Jui jitsu has been heavily featured in MMA for decades. Judo is one event in the Olympics. Judo hasn't been hugely featured in the most popular combat sport. It's really that simple. Some high level judoka win mma matches throwing people, and it will take off.

lmao yeah it be that way. had a big buff judo black belt in the gym and my best game is top game so i was relentless on the single leg. He’d hip toss me, i’d wrestle up back on the single and he’d hip toss me again. we did this for five minutes til he tired out and i got to mount where i rode out the next 2 minutes.
Refreshing to see no guard pulling
No guard pulling here 💪
Black Belt Judo = 4 stripe Blue belt/ Purple
😂
on the ground, wile standing it's the other way around
Most are just Bluebelt, if the guy from Kosen Judo you can put them at Purple or Brownbelt.
@@anton8267 you people only care about ground game don't you ...
All depends on the judoka man Belts don’t mean anything but respect for one’s knowledge and the ability to apply it A belt is by no means an indication of strength or skill level in other martial arts A black belt in karate for example would dawn a white belt Same goes for a high level wrestler I’ve seen guys like that mop the floor with bjj black belts who where completely out matched in their conditioning
See where bjj comes from ? 😉
bro a blue belt in jj smashes a black in judo
not what the tarmac says about jj
@@gianntomasini1579 yeah sure
@kaiser7121 That depends, some Judo schools they do spend a lot of time on the ground & some BJJ schools now where they're promoting as quickly as possible. A BJJ school I went to for a while everyone was a blue belt after 6 months, everyone who'd been there like 2.5-3 years was a purple.
@@kaiser7121 In what ruleset? ADCC? IBJJF? Yes. Under IJF? No.
Great training! Your humility and sincerity in showing your progress is remarkable. It seems that Sean is a very good judoka. Greetings from Chile.
2:47 you could have tried to go for a kimura again as you had him in the reverse triangle before he put his knee over your arm could have helped break down his posture abit more aswell!
Nice setup to get the reverse triangle at the end. Did he tap?
He did not, I felt as if it could have been tighter though
Can you pull the arm inside the triangle to make it tighter?
@@Tgg847 good question, I will experiment with pulling the arm to see if it adds any pressure good idea I’ll replay to this comment once I find out 👍
@@Tgg847yes it does add more pressure! If you pull there arm tighter it’ll lower there posture a bit more making it so you can get a tighter bite around the neck!
I was under the impression that only blie belts could make visits? All the unwritten rules can be confusing to white belts
WHAT?! Of course not our gym is open to everyone regardless of rank or belt colour, where did you get that information?

hey good to see you back i do enjoy your content keep up the good work
can i ask have you ever thought of doing tutorial videos on how to do jiu jitsu moves
I’ve thought about it numerous times but I came to the conclusion that I should get better before I do technique videos
i am sadly a white belt still but one thing i want to do is get a rear triangle if that is a thing
The rear triangle is a great attack, if done right it can be very difficult to escape but it is a real technique
@@Connerdoesjiujitsu55 ohhh i got to use it now one someone i know who but i may be to fat to get it
jiu jitsu is so much fun and it helps a lot it has helped me a lot with confidence and given me new confidence i thought i would never have and learning all the new stuff and using it is also very fun say you dont happen to know how to do a rear triangle do you also i subbed i had to also i got my own jiu jitsu channel that i am working on very badly i have to say
I appreciate the sub and I’m glad jiu jitsu is as important to you as it is to me
