    I'm 53 and my training days are behind me. But back in the mid-90s I trained for roughly 4 years at Gracie Jiujitsu in Torrance. These were my prime years for training being in my 20s and still having my youth. In hindsight, I wish I had trained in Judo instead. There's something about Judo that really catches my attention instead of when I watch a Jiujitsu competition. I feel Judo would have been more tailor made for what I was looking for instead of Jiujitsu. Anyway, that was the past. I still enjoy watching Judo competitions. Anyway, nice job man considering this guy Sean was larger than you.

    Judoka here (and bjj player). If I can offer you any advice it is to learn some basic grip-work when standing. Ask your judoka friend to teach you some basics. Watch how everytime he throws you, he easily takes grips and controls you. Jimmy Pedro has some great gripping tips on youtube if you search him. Try drill them every class before or after class.

    He’s a damn good judo player. He did a lot of standard judo stuff. I’ve tapped many bjj players with that reverse triangle- which they never see coming.

    Genuinely, what was the point of this? The disparity in skill, whilst just putting it on the lower skilled guy is unproductive

    • @DeathxThexKid100
      @DeathxThexKid100 3 дні тому

      The point is the training that you put into a guard, or a top game, means little if you cannot put yourself in the positions you have developed. Go back in the clip to where the guy in the black gi finally got to single leg X. It was a position he wanted for a long while but never got to it because his opponent just threw him and subbed him shortly after the throw. When the black gi finally got to single leg x, he got a toe-hold for a tap. Pretty handily might I add. He has skill, he is just not developed in throwing his opponent and getting to a dominant position. Which if we're being honest, matters quite a lot. Can't get to the butterfly guard you spent the last 3-4 years cultivating very easily when your opponent throws you and he's basically in side control/north-south. *THAT* is the point.

    • @mhanif8816
      @mhanif8816 2 дні тому

      @@DeathxThexKid100 you've not told me what the point is. Can you pls tell me in a sentence or 2? You already know you're unable to get to most guards against a black belt in judo.

    • @DeathxThexKid100
      @DeathxThexKid100 2 дні тому

      @@mhanif8816 Alright, here's the first sentence, and here comes the second. (Despite the fact I already told you the point.) Most BJJ practitioners have no idea how to do takedowns, or have no idea how to takedown thier opponent yet think they do; or they think they will simply get to thier game plan purely because they wanted it.

    • @mhanif8816
      @mhanif8816 2 дні тому

      @DeathxThexKid100 So you're in agreement with what I'm saying. Against someone at that level, it's unlikely he'll be able to get to top, or utilise the guards he's proficient at. You're supporting my point. There's no value in rolling with someone where the skill & experience disparity is so large & they're giving you nothing. It's obvious that someone who has been training takedowns for Gi (in this instance) for a couple of years won't stand a chance against a judo guy with +8 years experience. So, there is no value like I said before. Tbf, your point is pointless.

    • @DeathxThexKid100
      @DeathxThexKid100 2 дні тому

      @@mhanif8816 That is indeed the point, to illustrate that guard isn't the end-all-be-all. If you want the best shot at victory, you have to learn how to put the fight were you are strongest. If you cannot do that, but your opponent can, then the point I'm making is proven.

    this enfuriates me to no end: bjj clowns always think they are so fn special, they think just because a wrestler or sambist or judoka officially never trained in bjj, that by default makes them a white belt, because that's the only way they were taught to see things, but that's of course wilful ignorance and sheer stupidity because other grappling arts involve submissions as well and furthermore are far better at not only takedown defence but takedowns in general, your black belt doesn't mean dick here because you're comparing apples and oranges, this is why bjj only works either against completely untrained people or against grapplers who only did bjj, as soon as you face a wrestler, sambist or judoka for example who are trained to stay on their feet and take you down as well as you are trained to submit someone on the ground, you're in trouble because what good is being an expert at submissions if you never succeed in taking down your opponent to the ground to begin with
