Elk Creek Acres
A small family farm Central New York, we have two horses, two dogs, an evil cat, 30 chickens and 1 rooster we call Fred. We make small square bales and round bale hay that we sell, along with growing sweet corn, potatoes and pumpkins that we sell and enjoy for ourselves. It is truly a team effort, we all pitch in and at the end of each day we seem to get the job done. We've recently upgraded the 2038R that has been featured in many videos to a 3039R with deluxe cab that will be the main stay for some time, I also sometimes try to include some of our older tractors that include a John Deere 2555, a White 2-85, a Ford 5000 and a '56 Case that we call "Justin Case" because it is always there for us in a pinch.

John Deere 3039R w box blade improving the feed pen
It's time to level this ground up a little. It's not terrible, but it can definitely be better. I moved 8 yards of screened bank run gravel into the feed pen to try and improve the feeding experience.

HILLING THE POTATOES

First hilling, I am way behind on uploads, life gets in the way it seems. We have been very busy, I've just been on very tight time lines, so not much has been filmed. #3039r #potatoes
Planting potatoes with an antique planter.
Переглядів 6957 місяців тому
Our neighbor has had this antique potato planter in his barn for more than 20 years, asked me if we wanted to try it out. Of course I said yes, there is just something very cool about old farm equipment. He is not sure of the age, only that his grandfather used it for many years as a horse drawn planter, we guessing 75 years old. #johndeere #3039r #antique

It's been an adventure lately! We had a great trip to Charlotte NC, but before we left I accidentally broke the invisible fence that we have for our dogs. I was trying to pull up some locust tree saplings and had forgotten that we ran the fence through that area. In my defense that was 12 years ago when we buried that. Necessary repairs were made, all is well, and the dogs are safe. This gettin...
Feeding, Ariat boots and a great dealer!!

Feeding a round bale ahead of our short vacation to NC. I've also been purchasing Ariat boots, everybody and their brother kept telling me that I need to buy these. It's been a bit of a trial, one pair is good now, but it took quite a bit of break in with the help of glove oil and use. Another pair were so tight I almost couldn't get them on my feet. The third pair is perfect, starting to sound...
Feeding a round bale, nasty weather is coming!!

Some nasty winter mix precipitation coming, pretty much the whole nine yards. Snow, rain, sleet, freezing rain and a mix of the whole thing tonight and into tomorrow morning. Thought I'd feed another bale ahead of it. #johndeere #horses #roundbale

I’M DONE…Taking the snow blower off!!
Переглядів 46810 місяців тому
I’ve decided that I’ve had enough of wanting around for a snow storm. I can get more done without the snow blower on, so I’ve decidedly to take it off. If needed I can put back on in just a few minutes, but we’ll cross that bridge if it ever comes. #johndeere #3039r #winter

The Precision Manufacturing add a grapple with the Heavy Hitch toothbar
Переглядів 55111 місяців тому
I am loving this Precision Manufacturing Add a Grapple, in combination with the newly acquired Heavy Hitch toothbar it works amazing. What I'm not liking is this winter weather, it's mud season 3 (at least) I would much rather have snow and cold. But, like or not, I will take advantage of the weather and clean out the feed pen again. #johndeere #precisionmanufacturing #grapplebucket

Would you be willing to pull a measurement of the cylinder length in the closed and open position, or a model # on the cylinder?
I never had an issue with the keys but yeah apparently everyone else does haha This year they released an updated version of the key that's much lower profile to help combat "bumpage" Yeah the 3-point lift range on those is spectacular and the gear shifter is how it should be, the lift range on my 2025R is adequate but the poor shifter engagement is frustrating
I agree with everything you've said.
Maybe for a while until all that funky computer stuff Doesn’t work anymore, but I can tell you this my 2038R works awesome. I thank God. I don’t have all that computer stuff. I’ve been using my snow push works awesome and plus been using my blower has no issues whatsoever. I’m glad you’re happy with your choice.👍
You should mow it before you dig your potatoes
We do, I explained this in the video. But we beat my father in law to the field and just wanted to try a row or two.
I hear people always trashing the 2025R. I agree with you if you need a smaller tractor but will actually do tractor work skip the 1 series. The 2025R I found handles the 120R loader much better.
I agree, of all the tractors I've owned my 2025R was probably my favorite. Could see myself going back to one of them down the road when we don't need a larger tractor anymore.
Thank you ❤
You're welcome.
thank you Patrick for your great videos its very helpful, I Just purchased a new JD 3039R with Cab and 320R loader. had it for only 3 weeks now. Looking forward to making good use of it this winter plowing snow.
Glad I could help, as you have probably noticed, the manual is a little vague on some of these features.
Link to plow markers ?
I don't have a link, I bought them at Trux Outfitters.
It cuts beautifully
Definitely does!!
A flail Mower is far better than a brush cutter!
It really depends on the situation, they each have their place.
I mow my city lot that is less than 1⁄4 of an acre with 21"self propelled Troy-bilt push mower Push mowers are cheap 0 turns are out of my budget and too big for my yard.
That Pasteur looks like Tim's front lawn on tractor time with Tim. He treats his lawn like a ball field.
In less than a year of use I had multiple horse injuries on the gate end of the same tarter feeder that we purchased. A couple were significant lacerations requiring stitches. The plastic tube caps didn't protect horses from contact with the pipe which would cut them. One of the horses got impailed by the horizontal tube near the gate end. It was a horrific injury to my daughters horse, I thought I'd have to put him down but he somehow recovered. I was in contact with Tarter and notified them of this design flaw and suggested alternate design ideas but they were uninterested in preventing future problems. I was disappointed in the responses I received from tarter on this and extremely disgusted in the amount of veterinary bills I paid and what it put my daughter through finding her horse with that injury. I scrapped that feeder and I highly recommend others to do the same. The amount of money I spent on vet bills would have bought multiple safer feeders. Use at your own risk.
Very sorry to hear of the trouble that you've encountered by this feeder. For the record, this was not a sponsored video in anyway. We continue to have very good luck with this feeder for our horses, going on our 7th year with it.
Looks like that shaft is about to come apart if this thing is new I would take it back and find something better 👎👎👎
It was just the safety shield, I took care of that as soon as I was done.
P.s. thank you for your service. My Dad was a marine also. We lost him last Nov. and I LOVE the flags!! Woot!
@@MattBurroughs I’m sorry for your loss, this November marks three years since my dad passed.
That is the best comparison I have seen on the net about cut quality between the 2 types of mowers. Thank you for doing this!! I subscribed. What brand flail is that?
@@MattBurroughs thank you!! This is a Bestsco flail, it’s a decent mower, but if buying again I would get the upgraded model that has a belt tensioner.
Your next video should show weeds growing.
I worked on a lot of tractors and the only thing I don’t like about that design because cable stretch overtime and you have a problem with them. That’s the only thing I don’t like about that but I just wanted to mention that to you.
A very poor design by John Deere that’s for sure. I’m glad I don’t have that on my 2038R enjoy watching your videos. They are great.
Definitely could be designed better, but it’s not bad once adjusted properly.
@@ElkCreekAcres I totally understand what you’re saying I’m sure it’s not bad but overtime them cables do stretch that was one of my concerns before I bought my 2038R I was going to buy one of them tractors but that turned me away. I’m glad I purchased the 2038R and I love my little cab on it. Keep nice and warm and dry.
Doing a great job man 😊
@@DarrellHaney-n8u thank you!!
can top and tilt system be used on this?
Yes, the top and tilt kit can be added to this.
Hi, how are you doing? Hope everything is going well. I’m going to purchase a snow push for my 2038R and I was wondering if yours was 60 or 72 but great video I watch every single one. I’m glad you accepted me. Thank you so much.❤️
Thanks Dean, I appreciate the kind words. I have a 60" that I bought when I had the 2025R, if I were buying for a 2038 or my 3039 I would absolutely get a 72".
@@ElkCreekAcres thank you I really appreciate you getting back in touch with me. Love running my tractor when I watch your videos you give me so much inspiration it’s not even funny. I have my property all cleaned up. Looks awesome. Now I will look in to the 72 Snowbush, thank you so much. You’re the best keep them videos coming. I watched everyone of them.
I have a 2018 model year 4052R Cab, which is basically the same cab as this tractor. I really like the tractor, except it tends to overheat when brush-hogging in 100-degree weather with AC on.
@@stevegalland9820 thank you, it’s been another year now, I still like his tractor a lot.
That think cuts great
Yes it does!!
I love watching your videos. You’re a great operator. I learned a lot by watching you. Awesome job.👍
Thank you so much Dean!!
@@ElkCreekAcres no problem, my friend you’re great at what you do. I enjoy watching your videos you’re awesome. And I love the cab on my 2038R especially in the rain and when it snows, it’s nice and warm. I love the heat. and I have a nice windshield wiper in the front and I just installed one in the back love it. Great video like I said I enjoyed them very much. Thank you for accepting me again. I really appreciate it.👍😊
Do you plant potatoes in the same spot year after year?
@@MikeFox-z4n yes, but we try to rotate where in the field, but there is always some overlap because it’s a very small field. Or I should say, the useable area of the field is very small.
I'm on year 3 in the same spot, and I had bugs bad this year. Do you have any suggestions on how to get rid of them
What monitor and system are you running on the tablet. I want that for my 3039R
I'm using the TractorPlus app from JD and the smart connector that is available at your dealer. The connector plugs in to your service port in the lower left dash, it's pretty neat having that information right there, though admittingly I don't run with the tablet as much as I used to.
Not going to lie. You’re probably the best box bladder on UA-cam. Lol
Well, I appreciate hearing that, I've learned a lot over the years.
We call that type of stone CA-6. Once it's rained on and packed, it gets as hard as concrete! Good to see you, Pat, and I hope all is well.
Yes it does, around here not all bank run is created equal, this is good stuff though. We've been good, very very busy and just decided to cut back and get more things done.
That thing works awesome
Yes it does, the closer to the ground the better it works.
Great job putting down your stone by your horse barn enjoyed watching the video. Awesome job.👍
Thanks Dean!!
@@ElkCreekAcres no problem👍
You need hydrosplus pump!
Why is that? He's not done developing the 3R kit yet anyway.
Glad to see you
@@kimculver1038 thank you, it was to make this one.
What brand is that tater planter is that? I've never seen that kind of mechanical kind.
We have no idea, it’s very likely around 80 years old. It was originally horse drawn, that’s all the information we have unfortunately.
@ElkCreekAcres did some research and looks like a Minneapolis Moline potato planter. I think I'm going to build one on that design. I like the concept of it, thanks, keep the videos coming.
@@napooda846 its pretty slick, there was a learning curve that I didn't show in the video. The larger potatoes would get stuck, and if we cut them too small they would fall out the sides of the chute. Once we figured that out it was really nice, such a cool piece of very old farming equipment.
Great video. Needed to adjust mine and this was helpful to increase the height. Does the feedback control also adjust the low limit position or is that only adjusted with the valve linkage? mine does not seem to drop low enough. Also were you able to remove pin “B” in the image from the service manual for the valve adjustment without taking the tire off? It looks like it’s a pressfit pin. As I said I need mine to drop lower to hook up to a a JD weight ox with my imatch. Now I need my weight box to be on RR ties to reach it since the hitch won’t drop low enough. Thanks for the videos!
@@robertconnor3324 the feedback adjusts the height only to best of my knowledge, but I’m certainly no tech. All the adjustments I made I was able to do without removing the rear tire, I had no interest in wrestling with that being they are loaded.
@@ElkCreekAcres mine are loaded to. So to get the arms lower it’s the main valve adjustment I guess.
@@robertconnor3324 somewhat with the main valve, but mainly with the adjustable lift links on the 3 point.
@@ElkCreekAcres I fiddled with it last night for about 30 minutes and got everything adjusted. With the main valve, I was able to get it to drop lower. I followed the directions in the service manual. Thanks so much for posting that video. It really helped me out. I can say getting those adjustment nuts at the valve without taking the tire off requires a bit of a contortionist.
@@robertconnor3324 glad my video helped!! And I agree, very difficult to get two hands on things with the tire in the way.
Standing around outside and not swatting looks like you need some deer flies and horse flies. 😂
Haha, we have enough, just wasn't bad the other day lol A few weeks ago I was brush hogging and there were dozens of horse flies on the outside looking in, another benefit of the cab!!
Nutt'n I like better than watch'n someone else mow...
Nice job Pat, got the stuff in to convert my box blade to a pusher type to fit on my FEL. All I need is to get around to it.
Thank you!! I've considered doing that now that I have the 72" box blade, some shoes and QC set on the rear of the box and should be ready.
A box blade with a hydraulic top link is a pretty sweet set up.
@@andysmith8544 I agree, it’s almost a must with a box blade.
Thanks for the ride along. We have been using our box blade on our long gravel driveway. I don’t know if I’ll ever consider myself good with it. Tines down one hole to dig out the potholes seems to be the best so far.
@@qcan8468 there is a definite learning curve with a box blade. A few years ago I found a channel @digginlife21 and that really changed things for me. He is a real talent with a tractor and box blade.
Looks good, Pat! 👍 🥔
@@rodshepard3967 thanks Rod!!
Only negative I see is sharpening the blades probably takes awhile
Yes, that is a bit of a chore.
Drove through your area last week. I-88 seemed a little better than last time. At least I didn’t hit my head on the roof of my truck!
They've been working on it, slowly, but it's definitely getting better.
Which rows are the twice baked potatoes? 😅 Looking good my friend.
That would be rows 2-4 LOL
Cool!!!
Thanks Michael.
Do you hill your taters?
Yes I do, check out my latest video, or the potato playlist where there are a few hilling videos.
Great demo! Thanks!
My pleasure, for the record, I still believe this is one of the best things I’ve bought for any of my tractors.
Nice, but why are you flying a flag on your tractor? 😂😂🤣🤣🤔
our screen on our 4410 was rusted, and really hard to get out. It was so caked with dust and dirt that our mower started overheating
I hear ya, these screens should be on all tractors, a lot easier to clean this off than blow out the radiator every time.
What’s up with your pto shaft, the cv boot didn’t stay and the shaft it self seems to be 1/2 sleeved with something else.
It just came un clipped from the mower side, I fixed it after this, but its just the PTO shield.
Helpful thanks !!!
Glad we could help.
