No way I'd pay extra for the saltiga...the weight alone would be a no go. Longevity wise...I doubt theres a significant difference. Waste of $.

FWIW, the 8000 is about the same weight and the same drag, though lower geared so not exactly the same body. Spools are apparently interchangeable.

Great video. Was curious to home much of a mono top-shot because where I fish it’s mandatory on some of the head boats to have 100-200 yards of 60-80 pound mono.

Would you recommend this or the 7'6" SFWW custom marbled LBSF rod? The higher rating (up to 250 lbs) of the PCH rod and the roller guides would take off a lot of the stress on the rod when fighting big fish. What are your thoughts? If you do your research well before giving accurate information to the community, the Difference is the drag system and the body. Saltiga has ATD drag system and all metal body while certate doesn’t have the ATD drag and Zaion body construction. That’s about it. Internals are same.

Anyone have any knowledge of the 2017 Saltiga BJ 4000? Thinking of buying one off ebay.

Personally, I would use the Alijo 12n 2 speed for deep drop slow pitch jigging. It would hold about 670 yard PE 3 (30 pound braid) and it would be perfect for fishing around 1000ft of water. It is light enough and powerful enough for most bottom fish. Or, fill it up with PE 6 (65 pound test) and jig for tuna. The Alijo feels like a good quality reel like the Daiwa Saltiga 35 2 speed (which is what I use) for about half the price

Getting one of these for the big boy hammerheads and tigers that I hook into during the spring and summer. I have a decent shark setup with a Senator 4/0 sized but it just doesn’t do enough with the drag to slow down the sharks on the first run when I hit the 8 foot mark in shark world
